I doubt that KB is leaving - GC indicates that he has not been able to bring in fast wingers so we stick with we got and that is very likely to include the very quick, very tricky and very good Kyle. Two players we have been strongly linked with are LS and AJ if we acquire them I assume a central defender and at least one striker will leave Personally I don’t think Bennet is very quick or very good. He’s got decent close control but slows the game down too much , always drifts inside and his final ball is usually poor. Not league 1 standard.

Hopefully Bennett is moved on ASAP. Hopefully Pirate it's not one of those "must get him off the payroll" moves where we always seem to lose out. Over the years we have been very niave on transfer dealings, it will be interesting to see if we got the standard (according to the news story they are!)10% selling clause when Ellis moved recently. With all your knowledge are there no youngsters out there whoe are quick wingers who could see us as a stepping stone and a money-maker for us?

They said they couldn't afford to get him unless we compromised on something or other (iirc). Are they really gonna make him do all his preseason with us, so they don't have to pay for it, and then come in for him in August?

I’d have no problem with Bennett leaving, but (as always) whether that’d be a good decision or not depends on the calibre of player we’d replace him with.
GC is coming across much less bullish than he was earlier in the window. We’ve gone from “marquee signings” to phrases like “not the most expensively assembled squad”, “cut my cloth accordingly” and “go with what we’ve got”.
Not convinced the funds are there to adequately replace Bennett, tbh.

Regards to JCH, there is no doubt that his goals kept us in league 1 and that he had his own goal of the season competition, but in between he also had some very ordinary performances at best, my point is based overall on his 9/10 games for us and his previous record elsewhere would you be offering big money to lure him away? I think it unlikely but if his form continues up to Christmas then we might well have a battle on our hands to keep him. As for Benno ,so gifted but frustrating ,so as GC has been giving the like of Tomlinson some good game time is he thinking he can be used and be more effective than Kyle? I hope so and I am all for it!

I remain on the fence over GC as Manager. he deserved the chance by keeping us up but so far IMO his summer dealings have been a bit of a disaster as he has NOT improved on what was a shocking aspect of the team- pace ,creativity and goals. We are left in a position where at the moment we have three strikers other than JCH none of whom has a goalscoring record over the past season and the youngster Deon Moore. Why we signed Smith I just don't know as it seems desperation to sign him when he is about as physical as Reilly and Nichols, neither of whom have done much and the thought of getting Jacubiak back now as well tells me that GC has failed miserably on the attacking front and also has fail;ed to bring in any attacking midfeld players. I agreed with getting rid of Lines but only with a suitable replacement. The same now goes for keeping or releasing Bennett- does anybody think that GC is capable of bringing in better?? Theres been a lot of gas from GC but action speaks louder than words and big scores against crap teams, a draw against a national league team and a 2-0 win against Bath are not going to suddenly make us any better than last season- in fact I think even defence wise we will struggle without Lockyers pace. At the moment I am prepared to give GC the benefit of doubtbut IMO striker was the one position we should have put the boat out to get a "Ched Evans" that would have guaranteed goals but also put out a message that the owners are really interested- not convinced myself at all that they are but we shall see.

We haven't given them enough chances in recent years, some will improve game by game and could turn out to be good players other may not. We can't buy success so may need to make it using some of the young talent.

Although not an out and out winger, I would do everything I could to bring 20-year-old left footer Callum Gribbin to the club on a free. He can play wide or centrally and has so much potential it's unbelievable...potentially Prem quality ability. 22-year-old Callum Roberts is another left footer with a lot of potential still on a free that could do a good job and make a few quid in the future. Marcus Browne has reportedly been told he can leave West Ham. Another who can play wide or centrally, he impressed on loan at Oxford last season. He might cost a few quid, but would make us money in the future. I like Michael Fernandes at Farnborough, but he has signed for Colchester this summer. 19-year-old Brad Lynch at Curzon Ashton will play higher one day. Further afield youngsters like Sinan Kurt and Vince Gino Dekker are good players available on frees.

Apart from the defence the rest of the team is currently unfortunately the same old slow in pace and vision players we had last season, doh

BP lifted their original story from here and the somewhat dubious HITC article.
I'm not sure I draw the same conclusion about Bennett from GC's comments, especially as GC has given him plenty of game time in the pre-season games so far. I think there are others more likely to go out on loan and I'd be surprised if there are any permanent transfers out.
My long held belief is that Bennett could be a real asset for us.

Maybe the reason he said "current squad"?

Hopefully Bennett is moved on ASAP. I'd really miss him walking out onto the pitch ignoring the fans and looking out for his girlfriend to wave too, the most enthusiastic thing he did all season last year (while he was here).
