The owners will be over the moon with the cuts to the wage bill this week.
Exactly. If only we could get to the end of the season with no manager or, assistant manager........ ££££££££££££££££££££££'s

Chris Hargreaves and Mansell were together at Torquay and as pointed out would certainly be a cheap option especially with Wael looking to cut costa and balance the books which the Directors told me they were aiming to do this season. If managers from outside the club are to pricy then the owners may well go for the two Home Bargen's rather than a more expensive Waitrose import.

If, and it may be a big if, Hargreaves and Mansell could continue the success of internal appointments and the spirit so far this season, then it might just free up some cash for players? Could it reduce the amount we can spend on players wages though under FFP as not paying two management positions would reduce the overall turnover of the club?

The post are now reporting that Chris Hargreaves is now front runner for the job. Like I put earlier on in this thread, I think he’d make a good manager, just wasn’t expecting the opportunity for him to do so to arise so quickly. Perfect for Wael. Cheap and desperate.

Your guy Ben Garner sounds like he’s in a fairly similar bracket given his lack of managerial experience? When has the expensive option ever worked out better for a club like Bristol Rovers anyway? We recruit better internally, if the last two managers aren’t proof of that then I don’t know what is.

Garner was First Team Assistant Coach at Palace when they won promotion to the Premier League and was responsible for the training Monday to Thursday at West Brom. I'd rather that experience than someone who was relegated out of the football league with Torquay losing more games than he won.

Do you really think he’s going to get it considering he hasn’t been involved in any first team affairs and hasn’t been mentioned as being involved since GC left? To me it just seems common sense to say he doesn’t have a chance if they don’t have him involved currently. Obviously I mean Hargreaves

Slightly concerned that the heart of the coaching staff is being dispersed.

I expect he will be put in temporary charge, now Dunne is leaving. So if he does well, he could get the job. Like GC did and like managers have done at other clubs previously.

I'll say this, if there's anything positive we can take from Hargreaves taking over, it's that he knows our development squad well... and they'll be seeing a lot more action in the future

Not in charge Saturday, surely this rules him out of the running

Could possibly be on his way. 3rd in the running to be the next Grimsby manager at 7/1 and apparently was at their game against Northampton yesterday. Think I heard him say on BT Sport the other day that he was looking for a managerial role. Best thing he could do as he is not going anywhere at the Rovers Less than a month after this is written and now he's favourite for our vacant managerial role. Football ey.

Ben Garner literally has zero experience playing, coaching or managing in the lower leagues. It's bizarre he's once again touted around and this notion peddled that we should give him a chance, as no one else has. We're fourth in the league and potentially 12 wins away from promotion. It looks like, baring a spectacular collapse, our L1 status is safe for another year. Surely the sensible approach would be to opt for someone close to the club with a view of continuing the approach and work of GC to try and achieve something incredible. Handing the reins to a managerial novice who's likely to want to implement a very different approach given his previous experience strikes me as massively ill advised. The logic behind Hargreaves is obvious, especially given the uninspiring names being floated around.

Hargreaves’ autobiography (“Where’s Your Caravan”) is well worth a read - he’s seen the ups and downs at this level and would be the continuity Coughlan candidate albeit less dour and with more charisma
Mansell’s water taking and jokes would be a good complement as well. We need something to make us laugh at the moment.

See Kevin Maher in charge tomorrow. Talks of Manse helping first team but no mention of Hargreaves. Looks to me like Hargreaves's chance of the job is looking less likely. Don't think he'll stick around if overlooked twice.

Don't think he'll stick around if overlooked twice. Well ultimately his job is to run our (vastly improving and promising) academy, so why would he leave now? Would be like me just quitting my job because I didn't get the job 2/3 levels higher.

Really don’t see this as the cheap option but common sense - seems GC formed a good tight team around him that have bought into his ethos and know the club structure which allows succession - would be foolhardy to rip this up and put everything we have achieved at risk through appointing an outsider

Hargreaves gone from 6/1 to 3/1. Doesn't make sense.
