Garner: "To be judged as a manager, great advice I was given by a really experienced manager is you’re judged on what the condition of the club is when you leave. For me, if I left this football club tomorrow the infrastructure put in place will put this club in a stronger position moving forwards." WTF!? I am genuinely lost for words. I've been looking at some of the harsher comments about Ben over the weekend thinking "he's not that" or "that's not fair" - but you know what? The bloke is a f*cking idiot. Get him out of this club now ffs The manager is totally delusional. You judge a manager by the position of the club when he started, the position of the club when he left and the performances in between those two positions.

I was surprised to see he said the league position at the time he arrived was misleading, or whatever word he used.
Either shows a lack or respect or a lack of understanding, or both.
Either way, if I were in his place, plunging headfirst into a precipice, blaming your predecessors for the situation is not the way to win back the fans and players.

Just listening to his geezer mockney waffle,,,," in 18 months time , I am putting foundations in place, desperate to win " . The club has been here since 1883 Ben. He is bigging up the Sunderland game. Steve Coppell, speaks to him five times a week. " Want's people who is going to buy in to what I want to do " Scary stuff Ben. Is it me, or does he look down his nose at times, a bit disrespectful to the interviewer, and others no doubt. All this since GC left us 4th.

He looks down on everyone. We are not worthy of even being in the same ground as him.

Having now listened to his interview I assume one of the things he means is the criteria that dictate that Barrett is too unfit (or "illegible") to play. Good to know for when Garner's successor ends up signing Akinfenwa.

He mentions putting foundations in place several times without spelling out exactly what they are and the interviewer did not press him either. Could it be just empty words to pacify us which will amount to nothing significant. He seems to have no shame or remorse as to the mess he has created just supreme confidence in himself.

I’d love to hear GT verbally take him by the scruff of his neck and shake out some answers as to why he thinks he has improved on what GC has achieved. I couldn’t stand GC as a person when he was here and for the way he walked out but Garner has made me quite fond of him now!

Thinking about it, if he trusted his own backroom staff why is he on the phone to Coppell most days of the week (as stated in today's interview) rather that discussing things with his own coaching team? Performances not improving despite all the advice from Coppell. Problem is that they have got very little experience between any of them, he probably has the least.
He says the team are not doing what he tells them on the training ground, suggests to me he clearly is the problem.
In my view Starnes needs to get an experienced person to help him and if Coppell is only prepared to talk to him on the phone then that's not enough. We have two problems and Wael needs to take a grip of the situation and sort out both of them, Manager and CEO!

Coppell is McGhee MkII, where’s his hunger and passion? He’s been out of the game at a decent level so long he is an irrelevance. By all means get someone in but it needs to be an old head who still has a passion For the game like Warnock, not some old buzzard who just wants one last pay day. We did that before with McGhee.

Garner was close to stumbling on his words when he said we would win against Sunderland!, I detected self doubt, the man is arrogant and delusional, is always trying to talk himself up, if the players have to put up with that sort of bs, I don't blame them one jot for underperforming. Clear your desk Garner and take your badges and text books with you!. UTGWG. (Up the Gas without Garner).

He’s not doing a very good job at all ( results wise ) but some of the personal digs on here are just embarrassing.

He looks down on everyone. We are not worthy of even being in the same ground as him. Well, with his current run of results and Rovers slide down the table he's finding fewer and fewer clubs in the Division he can look down on!

The point is many Gasheads try to portray themselves as morally superior to our friends south of the river but looking at some of the bile and personal abuse spouted in some of these recent threads suggests we are no better than them.

This has got nothing to do with Trashton. All the points and views raised on this forum regarding Ben Garner are relevant, none of it is abusive. If any of us failed at work the way he has, after such a short time, we'd be sacked, it's as simple as that. Being Gasheads we take the ups and downs, but this guy is demolishing everything in his path and is arrogant and conceited to boot. Even you must see that, disciple or otherwise. conceited ADJECTIVE excessively proud of oneself; vain. "Fred's so conceited he'd never believe anyone would refuse him" synonyms: vain · narcissistic · pleased with oneself · self-loving · in love with oneself · self-admiring · self-regarding · self-centred · egotistic · egotistical · egoistic · egocentric · egomaniac · proud · arrogant · boastful · cocky · cocksure · full of oneself · above oneself ·

So do you think he'd still be in a job at AG with 1 win in nearly 20 games?

If he showed some humility in recognition of the fact that he won ratio is practically non-existent it would at least show he is aware of his failings and any personal stick he gets is poor form But when you try to make it other people’s fault, or worse- blame your highly successful predecessor for his poor passing stats or whatever the hell it was then the gloves, rightly, come off.
