I'm not saying there are 3000 moaners, far from it, but I'd rather we were drawing crowds of 3000 wildly enthusiastic and supportive fans than 5-6000 with the handful of in your face, over the top, abusive, threatening knobheads who are making fools of themselves too many times this season. I think we all agree Curly, the trouble is the budget would need to be halved AGAIN.

I'd take a season of mind numbing crap football if we got promoted this season and the players keep the same effort they have, I truly honestly would. Me to and so would many others if he hadnt of spouted all that crap pre season. Dins, I mean this with the greatest possible respect but do you really believe that people wouldn't have moaned regardless of what Clarke said? Or would have moaned at the time if he said we're going to be crap all season. Or if he would have said we're looking to consoladate this year in the league or that midtable would have been good enough Nothing, this year, was going to be good enough with sections of the support, because some will not accept that we deserve to be in the conference. I also firmly believe that some, and I'm not saying you, will never accept Clarke and the moment a negative arises will be all over it like a bad rash.

Firstly, I'm not sure anyone can say our players this year haven't been giving 100%? Secondly, where did I say a player DESERVES stick if they don't put in 100%. My point was that I will not give stick to a player if they are working hard for this football club. There have been players here in the last five years who (although not solely to blame, the main problems of this club lay higher up) have been happy to pick up a giant paycheck and not work hard, they have been more talented than the current crop and they have contributed to two quick succession relegations. I'm not condoning the abuse of our players, but I have always said that I would always support a group of players who, regardless of ability, played for the shirt. I have been happier watching Rovers this year, in the conference, under DC, than I have been under the teams prior. They might not have a player of, say, O'Toole's technical ability playing for them, but to a man they all fight for Bristol Rovers. I can't understand anyone can abuse them for that, which is the point I was making. Im just pointing out you said you'd given plenty (of stick) in the last few years. So it's ok for you to judge when it's appropriate, but not others. That's all i was saying. Again, your commenting on something i never said. I never said people couldn't give stick, I said I thought it was stupid, and i also put the criteria on what I feel is acceptable as a Bristol Rovers player For the record, i'm not a big stick giver at games, I'm not really that big a moaner at general. I was using the comment to back up my main point, but as you've focused on that. I'm 24 years old, I can't really remember us ever really being a good football team. Maybe that's why I can accept us being in the Conference. I can remember slight runs of form that have brought us success, some cup runs, but realistically we've always been pretty poor for the vast majority of my supporting Rovers. I do remember, however, fans getting behind players who maybe weren't the best but fought for the club. I found myself having a believe that although we may never be good, infact we may always be poor, but we would always back players who work hard for us. I won't apologize for getting behind a team who I feel embodies a Rovers-esque spirit, that's how i define the club Anyone can have their view, I've said in this thread that I don't get people who are giving stick to this group of players, but if they want to that's their perogative. Giving stick in the manor that has happened this season however - hounding players after five minutes, 100's of posters in the training ground, trying to board the team coach to abuse players, is something that IS completely out of line however.

Having an opinion does not entitle you to abuse anyone nor should it entitle you to use it to destroy something that means so much to other people. Its black and white. What's happening now is having a negative effect on the manager and team. If that's what you want then carry on hiding behind some warped sense of entitlement and ruin it for yourself and others. Cheers for that. Don't you need to make it clear who you are writing to Ras ? Or are you talking to yourself

The 100 posters put up around the training ground demanded not only that Clarke be sacked but the players be shot! Nice! Maybe it's not surprising it took the lads a few games to hit their straps. Why support a team if you act like that? Ridiculous. We are the Gas, we are renowned for pulling together when the going is tough and that's what 99% are doing now. These idiots have no place at this club.

I 100% agree with you Dins. By hiding behind JW and failing to complete an honest and open review the Board left a sore to fester. It was only a matter of time (or results/performances) before the unresolved anger reared again. It's not even DCs fault but failing to score enough cost us everything and now its happening again. Many fans are genuinely scared for the future of the club because there is little trust in the people running it that this year is going to be any different because there is no evidence they know where they went wrong last time. Precisely !! and when you add onto this the way Ken Masters and Nick Higgs behaved towards supporters like myself at The Q & A in July - they were shooting themselves in the foot that night !! I lost respect for both those guys that night - and to think I used to work for the club for FOUR years - it beggars belief.
Sadly we need new people on the board - those we've got are only reactive to what goes on. We desperately need new blood on the board that can be proactive. Evidence of this will I believe have a much greater chance of unifying the fanbase.
Finally, this forum is very pro -Bristol Rovers (that is to be applauded) but I get a different impression talking to Gasheads I know and those around me on the terraces (REALLY !).

DC may have formed his opinion of some Fans from recent striker history. Last season and this no strikers have managed to score enough goals and so it is reasonable to assume that no matter who he may bring in they are unlikely to score and given the hostile attitude from some Fans towards his Players then that may be a major contributory factor. If this is DC's thinking then I would agree. O'Toole, although not a striker scored a good number last season despite the atmosphere at times and being the self centred individual that he was, I doubt that he was ever bothered in the slightest by abuse. During the 1960's it was the slow handclap from all parts of Eastville that was directed towards the Team when they were thought to be not trying hard enough and it had an impact that seemed to make the situation worse. The remedy for our current goal scoring dilemma could simply lie with the Supporters in so far as the abusers should refrain or stop attending and the rest to chant out the Players names frequently - we may be amazed at the results.

This isn't about the board mark. It's all inter-related - I'm responding to what Hugo and Dins wrote about why this anger and frustration is festering.

Yes, we are very pro Rovers. I make no apology for that. I want what's best for Rovers and want no harm to come to the club. I believe that criticism needs to be positive and supportive, offering practical solutions and understanding from all sides. I think you can be pro club while still accepting there are areas for improvement. I also think there needs to be some acceptance that even if you are right, its not always the right thing to do to bring up things that will harm the club. By that for example, I know of a poster here who made a decision to bite their tongue about their views on the Board because they understood the needs of the team was more important than their own agenda. It's up to individuals. We all have the right to say what we want, its a free forum. But just because we can say something, it doesn't mean we should. Words can harm and words can heal. What will yours do today?

Encourage all of the moaners and ne'er-do-wells in the land to come, but put in sound-proof glass around the pitch. Loadsa bums on seats, but not a player upset!

Oh Come on ! Agenda - what do you mean ? Why did you write earlier about dissatisfaction festering - I have highlighted what I think are some of the reasons - and it is still valid today ! If you think that should all be swept under the carpet then sorry in my view that's why BRFC is a struggling club and it will continue to struggle. My heart hurts to say all this. But I will never stop supporting the club whether that's on the terrace every week or not.

Perhaps as a show of support ... at the 12-th minute of the next game the 12-th man can sing "Darrell Clarkes Blue & White Army; BRFC" ... from all corners of the ground. I know its lame ... but I guess my point is ... let's go the games committed to give the boys our encouraging vocal support and see where we end up. UTG

Oh, sorry, I wasn't meaning to have a pop, and not suggesting you have an agenda in a bad way.
I was answering your point about us being very pro club.
I don't always agree with you but you put together reasoned arguments. I have no issue with that. If you only listen to people with the same views as you, you learn nothing.
Other people however (on Twitter perhaps) just seem to want to slag off the club. Some people appear to have an anti board/club/dc agenda, wouldn't you agree? I mean I have a pro club agenda after all so its not an unreasonable suggestion. We all have our reasons for posting here.
Oh, And I meant what I wrote. I love the club and want the board to succeed but not dealing with things right in the summer has meant that my own personal feelings of anger and disaffection with the club are still never far away and its not nice to feel that way.
If NH had just come on the pitch and said "sorry" I think I may have got some closure.

I read the same, but didn't interpret anything said as advocating that we should sweep anything under the carpet. Emotions are still raw after relegation and many of us are dissatisfied with a number of things, but surely this doesn't justify the aggressive abuse of the players who are demonstrably giving their all - it is entirely self defeating.

You start and I'll help to keep it going.

The trouble with some people is that they don't just expect the team to try, they don't just expect them to win, they don't just expect them to win by a hatful of goals, they also expect them to do it all with dazzling twinkly-toed style, like we're Real-sodding-Madrid.
We are in a dogfight. It's a nasty, muddy, struggling snarlfest, mostly against red-legged steamers who aren't going to be looking up and playing football, but who have their heads down and are hell-bent on stopping anyone doing anything. Get in hard, smack it out, park the tanks in front of goal is what they are about.
Supporters who have a faint-hearted, rosy idea of what is needed in this league and how we might get out of it without money, are apparently deciding they'd rather look away.
