I thought his rant was totally justified, so I guess we will have to agree to differ. As for your quote 'How would he cope being manager at Newcastle, Leeds or Birmingham', I don't remember any of those managers losing 50% of the first team squad and at the same time reducing their budget by 50%. As the man said - wake up and smell the coffee!

It's possible that we are the best and worst supporters in the Conference. I looked at an Exeter City forum the night they lost at Warrington last week. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place, but I saw only a few brief unhappy comments and a couple of jokes. It was nothing like we would get on here. I've peeped at other clubs' forums too, at this level, and there isn't the same degree of involvement, as far as I can see.
We expect more than they do. We turn up in far greater numbers and our players love that, but we get angrier and unhappier much more easily, and they don't like that. We're like a mini-Newcastle.

I very rarely post on forums, after 31 consecutive years of being a season ticket holder at our beloved club I thought I would join the modern world and post my thoughts more starting today.
Everyone football fan around the country has an opinion on their team. I was one of the 315 at Alfreton on Tuesday night. I witnessed some “Rovers fans” at the end giving DC and the team a fair amount of stick at the end. I didn’t see or hear anything during the game thou which in my book is a given, once the whistle is blown at the start to the end of each half we get behind the team end of. If we are all honest we all give are opinions, whether it is to our mates on the terrace at half time, in the car coming home, on a forum or other social media. We’re not all going to agree always with the next person standing next to us. That’s what makes football so great.
Do I believe fans have a right to voice their opinions at the end of a game, good or bad(to a point)…..yes.
From what I heard on Tuesday night at the end was a line crossed by a few…..most certainly yes.
Vile abuse acceptable.....No in any shape or form!
Some of the things being said by a few and it was only at the very most 9/10, were out of order. In terms of a fan trying to get on a team bus, putting posters up around the training ground. In a nutshell the word “morons” spring to mind so not going to waste my time on them.
I have listen to the interview DC gave to the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30040276). That’s his opinion, his free to give that.
My view is I am slightly disappointed in his response. 10 fans shouting nonsense at the end of a game. Seems to be his focus point, what about the 300 other fans who took time, money and supported the club on a Tuesday night 150+ mile away? I agree with a few other posters the management of our club has to be very careful not to tarnish the majority due to a few individuals. Yes there is frustration in the club, we are all aware of that.
But to go public to the degree DC went then to refuse any more questions in his weekly press conference. Isn’t for me a good PR exercise in any shape or form. Yes he is frustrated and probably angry but the vast majority would like to hear the positive side to our club.
Sadly whether we like it or not football is an entertainment business in one shape or another. If fans don’t think they are getting value for money whether be it football, rugby, cricket whatever they will let people know about it. There are of course better ways to do this than others. The Club/DC for me don’t help themselves. Yes there is awful lot of work going on behind the scenes I am sure which we will never hear about. But frustration breeds from what you hear and see as proven what DC heard and saw on Tuesday, and by 1 individual at Telford most recently and his reaction.
We as fans see there is a problem “lack of goals”. We hear and keep hearing “we missed out on one or two”, “it’s hard getting players in”.
My personal message to the Club and DC we manage to get a striker in (Easter rumour is on Vital so prob rubbish anyhow), you watch the air of frustration vanish in seconds especially after what on the whole has been a good week for our club a point away from home and the Sainsbury Decision and we’re 4th in the table!
Please DC/BRFC don't tarnish the vast majority of us Gasheads with one bad brush. There are a vast amount who appreciate the effort that you,the team are putting in.
Enjoy your day gasheads. 3 points tomorrow hopefully UTG!

Pretty unhelpful Nick IMO. I just hope the response at the Mem tomorrow is a little more positive to DC and the team than your piece. Still - I'll defend your right to say it with my life

I'm Dam sick of defending the rights of people to say what they want only for them to come out with something Dam stupid. Maybe as fans we should stop thinking its ok for people to voice their bile at a match because hey, they paid for their ticket, they get their say. Forums, phone ins and Twitter is fair game. Say what you feel, its the right place for it. But maybe we should have less tolerance for the abusive few on match days, be it before, during or after the match? Censorship at the ground, a good thing or bad? Discuss.

I'm flipping sick of defending the rights of people to say what they want only for them to come out with something flipping stupid. Censorship at the ground, a good thing or bad? Discuss. The trouble is, IMO, talking about "bile" is ok as an abstract but, racism apart, it's hard to agree on what is going too far in practice. I have never booed and I've never joined in with abusive chants. (Well, ok, as a drunken teenager, during the Boer War.) But the odd unhelpful expletive May have escaped my lips during those misses at close range against FGR. Would I have to be hauled away for being off-message? I'm sure you would say no, Hugo, because you are a reasonable fellow, and I wouldn't mind betting that DC himself said the same naughty words in those moments against FGR. But what if people boo in such a situation, or chant something unkind at one of their own players? I don't like that; I'd want them to shut up, but I don't think they should be forced to. IMO these things are about the culture at a club. Ours isn't too bad, but there are those who want to attack the club - perhaps because they do care and feel bitter, or perhaps because they are nasty people. All we can do is get behind the players as loudly as we can and get off their backs - at least during games - and make sure that the positive majority outshout the negative few.

I know. You are right, I'm just tired of the weekly stories about what a bad bunch we are when this image is being shaped by a handful of fuckwits and Dickheads like me then defend their corner on the grounds of free speech and tolerance.

Mansfield, Altrincham, Braintree, Jason Brown, Alfreton all in the last 6 months or so. If were not careful, we will be in real trouble if it boils over with these disgruntled individuals. Points deductions are a real possibility if some idiot kicks off again this season.
I used to hate the fact that City and Wycombe fans were making gasheads out to be something akin to Green Street, but we seem to be getting there.

Nice piece praising the great majority of supporters from DC btw, in his interview about tomorrow's game.

For anyone that missed it the manager said this morning; "The majority of our fans are the best I have come across in all the years I have been involved in football and I don't say that lightly, especially with what they have had to put up with.
"It's obvious that the vast majority of them are appreciative of what we are trying to achieve at this club and their comments and backing following yesterday's press conference are greatly appreciated.
"Our home attendances have averaged over 5,700 which is amazing for a Conference side and our supporters have made the Memorial Stadium an intimidating place for visiting clubs.
"Away from home we have taken over 1,000 supporters to three games, again a phenomenal number and the backing at many of our away games has made it feel like a home game for us and I really hope that continues over the course of the season.
"On Tuesday we moved up to fourth place in the league and we will be aiming to get more points on the board to tomorrow against a decent Kidderminster side.
"There is a long way to go, of course, and we realise that there are areas of our play we need to improve on.
"We are aware of the fact that our goals for tally needs to improve, but if we continue to create the chances we have in most of our games I'm sure that the goals will come."

Well that was a quick u-turn. Think he has realised his comments went a bit too far. Fair play to DC, but it hints even more that playing the whole saga out in public nurses a hidden agenda

Does it? Or is it just a bit of honesty mixed with inexperience?

I'd be pretty annoyed if I had to suffer the abuse that DC and the players have suffered, particularly when we are continuing to climb the table and sit in the play-off places. I'm glad he lacks the media polish of the "say everything, but say nothing" type of manager and shows some passion - even if it is to say that he is annoyed with the behaviour of some idiots.
