We are at the crossroads with this corona virus. Some things are being allowed to reopen but with social distancing in place. Yet, there is still no plans in place for the return of spectator sport. Therefore, I am predicting that we shall see no spectator sport for the rest of 2020. so, what would this mean? it would mean that we will properly see many football clubs folding. Unfortunately, that would include our beloved Bristol Rovers. The longer clubs have no income, the time becomes shorter whereby those in charge will have to make the difficult decision of winding up their football club. We have already seen Wigan Athletic going into administration. Unfortunately, they will not be the last. With no income coming to pay the players and grounds people, clubs have a very difficult decision to make. Therefore it’s time for us all to be realistic. It may be quite possible that we may have seen out last ever Bristol Rovers game. We just cannot survive the longer spectators are kept out of stadiums. I just hope that I’m wrong. But the future doesn’t look good the longer we have corona virus dictating how our world behaves.

Read between the lines. COVID is the main reason why Wigan went into administration.

Read between the lines. COVID is the main reason why Wigan went into administration. It looks like it was some sort of sharp move by their owners to clear their debts. They only took over last month, so knew all about Covid.

There are plans for test events for spectators to attend sports including football this month. Obviously not full stadium capacity.

Read between the lines. COVID is the main reason why Wigan went into administration. The administrator said that Covid actually saved the club a lot of money. Staff on furlough. Inc playing staff.

Blimey there are some negative folk on this forum. Hope I never get stick in a lift with any of them. For the record as already referenced above we are actually in a much healthier state than many and Wigan was anything but covid initiated. Still never let the facts get in the way of a good moan!

I don’t see why sports stadiums can’t re-open soon. Hand sanitisers as you go through the turnstiles and everyone has to wear a face covering. Anyone with an underlying illness or in a higher risk category know the risks and can make their own decisions on whether it’s worth attending.

Time for someone to help lower league clubs ? Boris has found Jeremy's magic money tree, so perhaps we should ask him.

Then again the longer this goes on the more club with debts will go under and by the time we play again we maybe a Championship side! Anyway there's already talk of limited number of fans being allowed to watch the Charity Shield final so really you are talking negative nonsense. TBH I'd sooner sit/stand at the Mem with social distancing than be in a busy pub on a weekend night.

Read between the lines. COVID is the main reason why Wigan went into administration. Wigan athletic went into free fall for years when they over spent while in the PL with dave whelans money, got relegated and went down through the leagues at an alarming rate, just like others in the past like Bolton and the 82ers..Theyve been in administration before and also had points deducted from memory due to going into administration in the recent past. This is the reason they are in trouble now.. Years of mis-management.. I can predict the others who similarly followed their path.. Blackpool and Bolton being two.. Its a fair bet they'd be the next two.. Wigan athletic are poles apart from us as a club and I can't believe you are comparing us to them and reckon we'll find ourselves in a similar predicament.. Totally, totally different clubs and circumstances.

At the moment we might have much more positivity surrounding us as a football club but meader may be right about fans not being allowed to attend football until after Christmas. Our positivity is not necessarily reflected in the wider football world. The government seems to be full of inconsistencies about sport in general. Football allowed, cricket not, hard to see the science in that decision. So meander might be right, I hope not but there are circumstances where I could see it happening. If we have any local second spikes that could lead to more lockdowns. Unfortunately we don’t know what’s going to happen and until there’s some certainty I can’t see the EFL starting up the league yet and definitely not with any paying fans yet. It’s not a popular view but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen. UTG!
