Ipswich got burned with Harrison, who was not an injury prone player with us but injuries at Ipswich left him playing catch-up till they sold him at a loss...are they really ready to try again with a similar outlay on a player with a much more obvious injury record?

Do you honestly think clubs think āOh we signed someone who didnāt work out from club x so we wonāt sign anyone from them againā? They look into factors like do club x overtrain their players, do they force them to train on sub standard terrain, do they have the right nutritional and physical training staff in place to ensure weāre not spending the first two months after a playerās arrival Reconditioning them..what previous knowledge do we have to support that theory?...of course they do!

IT certainly didn't stop us buying a bunch of lemons from Peterborough. Fry and McAnthony must have been rubbing their hands in anticipation every time they got a call from us.

East Anglian Daily Times reporting that Ipswich target JCH has been told by Ben Garner to sign an extension to his contract or he will be sold to ensure we don't lose him for nothing next summer.Ā His current value is supposedly Ā£750,000. Sorry to post more negative news guys. Thought you might be interested. Do you ever post anything positive? Itās almost like you enjoy the negativity? Did you not read the bit where he said sorry ?

I hope JCH signs a new contract, however if he doesn't ,what stops him from running down his current contract and then leaving at the end of season to join a club that offers him a combination of the best wage and best signing on fee. Nothing to stop that at all, itās all down to him at the end of the day - although those who think real life mirrors their computer games believe you can just sell a player whenever you like!

So Toney will not leave for less than 6 million, according to Peterborough chairman, JCH 750k! Seems a bit stupid if we are selling him for a figure like that!

Peterborough have an interesting strategy with this sort of thing, which is ballsy but effective in the main. They simply will not sell unless they get stupid fees for their players. Its almost like a ransom. They've done very well out of it to be fair over the years, which means they can swallow their losses when the likes of Maddison leave for nothing at the end of their contract.

I think Ivan Toney is capable of playing at a higher level due to his pace etc to match his physicality and less injury prone. 2 years younger, also JCH has already had a crack in the championship and not a very good record.

Whether JCH stays or goes, it's crucial to bring in another striker to help lighten the load and give us more scoring options.

I have been reliably informed JCH returned to pre season training post lockdown, resembling Giant Haystacks.

So Toney will not leave for less than 6 million, according to Peterborough chairman, JCH 750k! Seems a bit stupid if we are selling him for a figure like that! We need to understand what promotion to the Championship is worth to us (and for that matter Relegation as well). Most clubs and fans dream of promotion to higher levels and that should be the main objective bar survival as a club. Once we have a rough, monetary idea of what promotion and relegation is worth to us, we should then plan to achieve / defray it respectively. Then we need to consider any restraints on us, e.g. spending cap, wage limits, etc. I am sure I have missed other things out but that gives an idea of what promotion is worth to us, over a year, longer, etc. We can then plan for it and one of the key factors are the players that will help us to achieve this. Talking of JCH, I would say that, season before, he was the main player who kept us from relegation with priceless goals at Scunny, Gills, etc. Where does Ā£700,000 fit in wrt promotion and relegation assuming that is the lowest price we are prepared to accept for him? If we keep him for the 1 year left and achieve promotion, would it be worth it? Most fans would say YES. If we sell him, we have to replace him so we may be looking at only half his sell fee? Personally, promotion to the Championship would be worth millions to us when taking into account everything including TV money, etc. At present, City get all live TV League matches in the West Country because they are the sole team there in the Premier League or Championship and broadcasters do want to represent regions to get people in those regions interested in their offerings. I do not think selling JCH for less than a few million makes sense unless we need the money or he does not want to stay. We generally do not get in the way of players who want to progress. A Ā£1K increase a week would cost Ā£50K, Ā£2K more per week would cost Ā£100K. An equivalent of 333 season tickets at ~ Ā£300 per ticket. Cheap by all accounts to keep him here. Also, why sell to a rival L1 Team? I personally would like him to stay because he is one of the best players I have seen at the club for some time. If anything, I would almost put him in the same league as Ollie Watkins, although Ollie seems less injury prone and more savvy but he does play for a team that has gifted players and creates far more chances for their forwards. Their work rates are amazing. Watkins looks likely to become a very good Premier League striker for years to come and I think JCH would definitely succeed at Championship level. UTG

Why not just refer to this article from the BP, or was it too positive for you to post? www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/ben-garner-opens-up-jonson-4374776The club can't really win if JCH refuses to sign a new contract, as certain fans will say why's he being sold on the cheap, others why are we letting him run down his contract, didn't they learn anything from MT & BB.

Weird thing to say, here. Do they really think we got nothing in return for our investment in TL? "The former captain progressed over eight years with the Gas, becoming a Wales international, but left in the summer of 2019 for absolutely nothing, providing no return on Roversā investment or the time they had put in developing him."
