If we offer him more now and he signs before the wage cap deadline is the increase not included in our budget or does the rule only apply to new signings and not contract extensions? If the wage cap deadline is soon I cannot see another league one club being able to offer much more than we can. I would understand last season if the chance came to move to a bigger league one side tipped for promotion when we were predicting mid table at best for us but with the signings we have made it’s completely different this year. As others have said, it all depends if a championship club comes in for him where they can offer at least double the wages. You can’t begrudge a player wanting to take that sort of offer. Contract extensions for existing players have the same ruling as new signings.

So JCH as in effect only to Friday to sign a new contract or we might have to withdraw the offer if the EFL clubs then agree to a £2.5m wage budget next season at their next meeting on the 6 August?

I guess so. Presumably if anybody is really interested in buying him, they would want to get him on their wage bill before the changes take place.

Well or we just suck up the brunt of the cost that would be adding JCH's new contract to our salary cap confinements. I think most of here would agree a new deal for JCH would be better than almost any replacement striker signing we could realistically attract. But goes without saying it'd be in our interests for him to sign on the dotted line prior to 23:59 on Thursday

Or like playing Fantasy Football we sign a couple of cheap players just to make up the squad numbers, although we've already got more than 21 senior players at the club.

Well I'm unsure how it works with youth players counting towards the cap but I imagine we'd just promote a prospect where the opportunity is there to do so. Hoole, Tomlinson, Phillips, Budd... there's plenty to keep an eye on it the coming years!

Well there you go! Actually could work out as a kinda loophole for clubs with a promising bunch of kids progressing through the academy. Take Crewe for example: put a fair few of their u21s into the first team squad and it would allow them to spend more on their first-team players as there'll be less on the official books

Apart from Hargreaves based on last season's form I can't see any of the others are really ready for 1st team action, if we start off with 20 that's down straight away to 19 if we have to include the injured Davies, pick up a couple of injuries early on and then have a suspension or two and we're soon down to 16/15, or just 14/13 outfield players!

Daly is only 20. So he won't count either and if definitely ready to play a part. You must be able to change it in January, so doubt Davies would be counted. Doubt the number limit will start, until next season anyway. Can't make clubs get rid of player's, without any notice.

I was going to ask if any one had any links to the proposed salary cap and squad size changes as I haven’t seen anything. I expect there has been loads of stories on it I just haven’t managed to catch one. Thanks in advance if anyone is able to help.
