Norwich - who were FA Premier League at the time. Exactly! I would so take a goalscorer from the premiership now, 6 goals..

Stefan Payne was also kind of a proven goalscorer having been top scorer at the losing playoff finalist the season before we signed him. 9 league goals from open play. I did say "kind of"

If you want a proven goal scorer by consensus i go back to my previous candidate Robin Stubbs ; 120 goals in 217 games for Torquay before joining Rovers where he added 32 goals in 93 games back in the 1960s, not bad! he is still around i believe and a life president at Torquay.

Now 1969 was a great pre season and Robin Stubbs still one of my all time favourites. I think Fred Ford signed him before being enticed to Swindon days before the season started. We appointed our chief scout, Bill Dodgin, what a great appointment that turned out to be. Great football, cup runs and always at or near the top and he was given time to build the team that eventually went up in 73/74. Robin Stubbs was a very important signing at the time and he scored some great goals and some simple ones. UTG!

John Taylor Scott McGleish Derek Riordan Jamie White Even Payne and Zebroski had good seasons immediately before we signed them. Apologies to Taylor for being grouped with the others on this list. Needless to say it doesn’t always work out. John Taylor was great for us, especially that floppy limbed celebration he used to do from time to time! John Taylor was one of my most favourite Rovers players of the last 50 yrs.

My first ever away match was at Fulham. A poacher’s goal from Taylor after about 5 minutes and we hung on for the rest of the 90.

Most of us would agree that this transfer window has been one of the most productive and exciting we've ever had, and most of the players signed so far seem to be coming here because they buy into the vision of Ben Garner and/or the coaching setup. A lot of people are saying all we need now is a proven goalscorer (or 2) to really compete this season, and I completely agree, we need goals in this team. The problem I've got with this view, is that we never seem to sign proven goalscorers, in fact, when was the last time we did sign one? If anyone can give me some names of players we've signed who fit this bill, I'd be interested to hear them? The most we'll be able to afford is another JCH, ie a player who Widdrington can see has goals in them, but had never been given the chance to prove it. Tom Nichols
Myth. Tom Nichols was never a proven League One goal scorer. He had had one OK season at Peterborough (10 goals from 43 appearances) and before that was playing Conference South.

Prolific? Also, I'm not sure how a League Two/Conference South player is a proven League One goalscorer? The Tom Nichols myths continue.

A goal every 3 games in a league season would get you 15 goals. I'd take one of our players scoring that.

Was a great time to be a gashead then Shame Bruce Forsyth stole his misses off him - Anthea Redfern

Barry Hayles wasn’t too shabby at his previous club. We paid a decent fee as well.
