If you want a proven goal scorer by consensus i go back to my previous candidate Robin Stubbs ; 120 goals in 217 games for Torquay before joining Rovers where he added 32 goals in 93 games back in the 1960s, not bad! he is still around i believe and a life president at Torquay. Great moustache as well !! Talking of taches, who would win a poll for Rovers player with best one! can think of a few like JOCKEY (Twerton days) Penny, Twentyman, think Nigel Martyn had one some time, Dave Staniforth? worth a thread on its own, but that would be a bit sad wouldn't it!?..oh and Randall!

Eh? He was playing for Exeter in L2 before he signed for Peterborough, and he was quite prolific for Exeter. 2011-13 on loan in Conf South. 13-16 at Exeter. 34 goals in 97 appearances a goal every 3 games. Prolific? Also, I'm not sure how a League Two/Conference South player is a proven League One goalscorer? The Tom Nichols myths continue. 2017-20 Bristol Rovers 4 goals in 93 appearances, for a forward!

A decent reader of the game, and provided a few assists and a lot of effort, but no team can afford to carry a player who's not fulfilling such an important part of their role. I wish him well, but hope the next forward we sign is more 'proven' 😬

I never said he was a proven L1 goalscorer although he did score a few for Peterborough. I was responding to you making a misleading claim that prior to his time at Peterborough he was playing in the Conf South, which conveniently glossed over his 1 in 3 record as a young promising striker at Exeter in L2.

Ellington had scored zero goals before arriving at Rovers, so I won't take that one 😉 But he did win Surrey Under 16 High Jump

I think you are all forgetting JULIAN ALSOP, who once lobbed the Wigan keeper by bouncing the ball off his right knee!!

Down the lower leagues, if you want a striker then he has to come from within your club. Or else find one form outside the league.

The post I was responding to was a reply to the OP about signing proven League One goalscorers. "he did score a few for Peterborough" - yeah a very few. 11 in 58 appearances. Whatever way you cut it. He has never been good enough for this league and the stats bear that out.

This whole "whichever way you cut it" is fine, but the better way to cut it would be to make your point without making misleading comments making out that he'd only played in Conf South before his time in L1. By your logic, no signing should be treated us useful if they've come from a league below. Posh signed him as a promising young player who had scored a lot of goals in L2 for Exeter. It didn't work out in L1 for him. I hope he goes on to score goals at his next club, whichever level that is, and wish him well.
