Thanks for posting g and e. Perhaps much as we would expect but: They tried to get what he wanted in the transfer window but failed. If it was players turning it down or us not offering enough wasn’t clear. Perhaps squad numbers and caps might be the reason. But in the end we didn’t get reinforced. He’s obviously had some strong words with the players, as you would expect, and has said he expects them to respond. I get the impression that he’s not confident they will respond how he wants. I thought he almost threw it back to the players to put it right. Apart from that G20 asked the right questions and got some articulate answers as ever but I guess the performance on Saturday will tell us a lot. UTG!

FFS ... All he says is we have to do the Basics better ....Professional People ... The Basics should be guaranteed, the foundation on what you build on.
He says the players need to take responsibilty .... they wont, so don't expect anything changing any time soon.
Feels like the words of a beaten man.
Great questions by Geoff for sure.

Lionheart, He is totally right though. We failed Tuesday mainly because two players Ehmer and Kilgour had awful games by not doing the basics of football right. Dropping them may be the answer but he may challenge them to put it right. He may even select the same eleven tomorrow- personally I would drop the two players mentioned because apart from a few games I dont think either has really done themselves justice.

If you've got a squad that can't do the basics and won't take responsibility, you can't really blame the manager for that, can you?

I really don't know what to make of Tisdale.
If it's simply about getting the basics rights and players taking responsibility then he certainly has a complicated way of saying it.
His apparent refusal to coach the defending of set pieces was also rather eccentric to say the least as was the concept of players having to motivate the manager.
Still at the end of the day he will be judged by results not the eloquence or eccentricities of his responses at press conferences.

Good questions, but PT's answers didn't inspire me to have confidence that he knows what he's doing - I hope that he articulates himself better when dealing with the players.

What I don’t understand is that Tisdales teams have historically been good at set plays - both defensively and offensively - so why are they so poor here with players who on paper should be towards the top of the quality list in this division?

One thing PT is - is articulate 😃 Eloquent? Yes. Articulate? I'm not so sure. He uses lots of words to say very little of substance, imo.

The thing is we have been poor defensively all season. How many times can you say the same thing to the same players? How are the same players suddenly going to look like decent L1 defenders?

Excellent interview by GT - brilliant, very frank questions.
The whole "motivate me" thing does sort of make sense - but it also feels a bit like the Paul Tisdale show. Almost a "look, I don't have to be here. I'm not that bothered either way. So what are you guys going to do to motivate me and make sure I stick around?". I know it's not saying exactly that, but there is a bit of a whiff about it and you do wonder if that's how some players might take it.

Actually i often wonder if the players even bother listening to these things. Having had media training themselves i suspect they all know its all about metaphorically wearing a mask in front of the camera. Its what is said behind closed doors that ultimately matters. I dont bother with pre match bluster anymore, always listen post match as its a better reflection of true feelings. The blood is still pumping and heart racing from the game. Harder to "mask" feelings.

Harder to "mask" feelings. Totally take your point and agree in the main - it's only because he said specifically he had said that to them before. So that could of course be a lie, but one assumes he has actually said that to them

I know it's not saying exactly that, but there is a bit of a whiff about it and you do wonder if that's how some players might take it. It’s very modern management. At my place I’ve recently been asked in an annual review to vent less and to be more constructive, suggesting solutions instead. In my mind though the things I’ve been venting about are problems the management are paid to resolve and overcome as I’m a small piece of the overall picture. I can carry my colleagues poor work to some extent, and cover for some not doing their jobs, but there’s only so much I can do. If I was a player playing their best and the manager is asking me to motivate them and I be pretty peeved and start wondering if I can get away with what the rest of the squad including the captain is getting away with.

"You just said that so well I thought you might have heard me say it" - that really sums this bloke up "That's so good it must have come from me".
If he's in charge we're only going out of this division one way and it ain't the top. Tisdale has made a career out of achieving nothing at this level of football then blaming the organisation he works for for that.

Tisdale has several business interests away from the Gas, not sure if they make money or not but might partly explain his take it or leave it manner?
