Just some balance for any naysayers and doubters. Rovers could have been posting an interview with this man today. 🤣 Never seen that before, what an arrogant fool! Pat Murphy has always came across as decent on the Midlands football, he just sat there like a school bully.

JB may fail but if he does I will still remember the footage from today where I actually seen Kevin Maher smile 🤯🤯

Has this been posted yet? Found this video and gives an insight to his changing room - Anyone know where to watch full doc or did it not end up getting released ??

It was a good interview and came over as articulate and positive, what should be expected. He’s obviously done his homework and knows something about the squad so no excuses I think will be offered. Good start and the training photos looked good and it’s his relationship with the players which is the key factor in getting out of this mess. I hope his up to date knowledge of this league and the teams in it will be something in our favour and he won’t take games to get up to speed.
We know he is a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde character, fingers crossed that we get the Dr. Jekyll. UTG!

When he said about being a hard worker and giving it 100% I couldn’t help thinking we are about to receive the height of scouser honest graft - 2 days work, 2 sickies and a strike. You love your stereotypes don’t you gulf? 😉 UTG!

I might just take a look, that was proper uneasy, but FairPlay to spat Murphy for not backing down or ducking asking him questions, couldn’t see Hoskins or The other fool asking those, however I could see GT asking them.

I swear his glasses are just an image thing.... He does need glasses/contacts but some pictures you see of him you can see that he hasn’t got contacts in as he is squinting.

He definitely needs glasses oasis , he mentions them , his need to wear them at his Cambridge union speech , they are not a fashion accessory 😁 Utg

Doesn't need glasses for training sessions, but needs them for interviews.... Short sightedness developes mostly before your 20 and if later (which is rare) usually in people who work indoors.... If he's long sighted he wouldn't need reading glasses for interviews....

Bristol Rovers F.C is delighted to announce the appointment of Joey Barton as first-team Manager. The 38-year-old takes charge ahead of tomorrow night's meeting with Wigan Athletic at the Memorial Stadium, with Barton signing a deal with Club until 2023. Barton joins the Gas following a short spell away from the dugout after parting company with Fleetwood Town earlier in the 2020-21 campaign. In his time in Lancashire, Barton demonstrated continual improvement in league finishes, first finishing 11th with his side, before securing a play-off spot in the shortened 2019/20 campaign. Despite being beaten in the play-off semi-final in the 2019/20 season, Barton's Fleetwood side responded well, again in the mix for the playoffs the following year before Barton parted company with the club. The former midfielder's footballing pedigree speaks for itself, beginning his career with Manchester City before permanent spells at Newcastle United, QPR, Burnley and Rangers. Barton also made an appearance for the England national team in 2007. Accompanying Barton to the club, he brings Clint Hill and Andy Mangan, who step into roles as Assistant Manager and First Team coach respectively. The current coaching staff will remain in post at the football club, with Kevin Maher, Jack Mesure all forming part of Barton’s backroom staff. Speaking about Barton’s appointment, Club President Wael Al Qadi said, “We are delighted to welcome Joey to Bristol Rovers and look forward to working closely with him to progress our football club forward. "Joey's experience in the game is matched by his passion for coaching and delivering results, which made him a standout candidate for the role. "He's got a good knowledge of the league already thanks to his spell at Fleetwood and has shown his credentials at delivering results and getting the best out of the players he works with. "We are confident that he will be able to continue the ongoing development of the younger players coming through the ranks at the Club and speaking to him, I know his ambitions align with what we want to achieve as a football club. "I want to wish Joey, the staff and the players the very best of luck for the coming games, as we look to cement our safety in Sky Bet League One and build for the future." www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2021/february/club-statement-managerJust as a matter of interest, does anyone recognise where this ‘unveiling clip’ was filmed - it wasn’t at The Quarters for some reason.

I know this has been done to death but there is one other thing about Barton that hasn’t been mentioned.
Now whilst I’m in the pro Barton camp, I fully understand the warranted reservations.
If he can get it right and not head butt a steward then I think he has the ability to relate to fans better than any gaffer since DC.
I bloody loved the league 2 and Conf season, it felt like we personally knew the group.
I’m a qualified coach and whilst intellectually Garner was interesting emotionally he was a brick wall. I’ve worked with Tis at dons (im in the academy at Dons) so sort of knew what was coming.
However Barton is already engaging with local charities, he held fans forums regularly at fleetwood.
Some will say due to his image, he has to go the other way massively to do this. He doesn’t have any do it.
I just feel if we are the club he ends his misdemeanour’s at, we will feel more connected to him than any other appointment. Of course he has to win matches or everything else is irrelevant but he’s a his coach
A friend of mine works at Fleetwood in the academy, some first team managers don’t have anything to do with an Acadamy, some only speak to the head of the academy,
Barton spoke to everyone, my mate is an u13’s manager and still spent time talking with Barton. Barton was inquisitive an genuinely cared.

Gareth Ainsworth once said about us: “I call this a proper football club, it’s a historic football club with big, big support – you get this place rocking, people know about it and away teams know about it." Not sure who, but we need someone to get the place rocking! Let's rock n roll! 💙🎸☠🎸💙

Length of Contract: Till 2023. Like ANY contract if the worst comes to the worst after the upcoming trial then his contract could be till 2050 and it wouldn’t matter. Termination for gross misconduct would void it. Moving to the area: JB yes Family No. He did move with family up to Glasgow for the Rangers transfer but now his children are older and settled in school in Liverpool. Relocation wasn’t an issue while at Fleetwood, it’s an hour drive from his home. That's a big worry, if his family moved down with him you'd hope his wife would keep him under control, a bit of a loose cannon living 2 hours away from home all week really sounds like a recipe for diaster. Let's hope he sends all his spare time watching Rovers videos and helping local charities rather then visiting pubs and nightclubs. If Barton has learnt his lesson we could well be challenging for the playoffs next season, or promotion in L2(!), but as this is Rovers we're talking about then something is bound to go wrong.

This the thing. Barton is a 'complex' character. There is more to him than the thuggery. You can see how he can charm people and his quite erudite and in a different way to someone like Tisdale It's easy to see how he can and will win people around (and I hope he wins me around with more than results). I just can't shake the fact that the red mist will descend at some point and he lose it, do something stupid and probably over something silly. Currently more annoyed we have heard next to nothing from the board apart form the generic 'outstanding candidate' statement (arent they always) Regardless of whether it was Barton or someone else, this was a massive appointment and pivotal in our season and silence; and that's before you factor in the feelings the Barton appointment has stirred up
