He definitely needs glasses oasis , he mentions them , his need to wear them at his Cambridge union speech , they are not a fashion accessory 😁 Utg Walks into a room of students without glasses on, then puts them on and gives an explanation of why he needs to wear them.... Doesn't need glasses for training sessions, but needs them for interviews.... Short sightedness developes mostly before your 20 and if later (which is rare) usually in people who work indoors.... If he's long sighted he wouldn't need reading glasses for interviews.... Shortsightedness develops in all us football fans very early!

I've now watched the interview with JB several times, and thoroughly enjoyed it, which didn't surprise me at all, as I've known from listening to him on the radio and TV etc, that he's an intelligent articulate guy.
He speaks with a lot of sense, is clearly down to earth, and I think he buys into us Gasheads from having grown up an Everton fan in the shadow of their more illustrious red neighbours. He wants to be the man to get this club going, and have us loud and proud in our city. That excites me and I really respected those comments in his interview.
It also looks like he's given the staff and players reason to smile and that could be just what we need to get us out of trouble this season.
I say this with a tinge of skepticism, as I enjoyed Tisdales interviews as well, plus, as Joey said himself it is only natural to have skepticism given his track record. However I genuinely hope that he is a success, and I'd be proud to see him put his darker side behind him as he leads the Gas. Let's all hope that he can do it and make us proud.

Why on earth have Rovers signed a thug like Joey Barton? He should not be allowed anywhere near a football ground. I have been a Gashead since 1963 and this decision tops the one when Rovers re-appointed Bobby Gould as manager after he had dumped the club to go to Coventry City. I vowed to stay away for as long as he was in charge and I didn't actually resume attending games until the 1992/93 season. If that man is still at the club when fans are allowed back, I certainly won't be returning. And your username is toteendoldboy, which in the 70s is where the majority of Rovers hooligans(thugs) frequented. Yes, I am aware there are those who were 'bovver boys' but I certainly wasn't one of them. I actually worked at Eastville Stadium in the 70, catering on match days serving the visiting 'bovver boys' at the Muller Road end, including the likes of Millwall, Sunderland and Man U, and serving in the South Stand bar on greyhound night's. So please dont try to don't imply something by association.

Joey is clearly a bloke who has had anger management issues in the past. Whilst I don’t think any of his violent incidents have shown any premeditation that’s clearly that’s no excuse. The other side of his character is quite the opposite. I know people who have met him in their working environment and found him a pleasant and generous bloke. This article I think shows another side of his character in a situation that didn’t court public opinion but shows someone willing to share his success in life. alastaircampbell.org/2013/03/how-perceptions-change-a-night-out-with-joey-barton-and-two-happy-frenchmen/For me it’s a good appointment on many levels and I will give him the opportunity to prove himself worthy of the title of Rovers manager/head coach whatever his title is!!

No need to be patronising. Please let's try and respect everyone's views. You may not agree with his decision but I think it's incredibly sad that a supporter since 1963 feels the need to take such action. Normally i would agree with your sentiments. But in this instance this smacks of " Shithead " taking the water. This would not be the view of many " Old Tote Enders " especially ones that have only a few posts. Well that is the view of this Tote End Old Boy and, as I am the kind of person to 'go with the flow', I've had few reasons to post anything. My Dad would turn in his grave at such disrespect by implying that I am a 'Shithead' taking the water; a man who, with his brother, made the arduous trip to Newcastle for the 1953 FA Cup quarter final, only to be dejected because Rovers only came away with a draw in a match they should have won. I have travelled all over the country to watch the Gas over the years and until Covid, I used to watch from the Thatcher's End with my 15 year old granddaughter, which is where todays 'bovver boys' watch!!!

I just read another article which heavily links Barton to the sports psychologist Steve Black who was famously behind Jonny Wilkinson’s success. He was apparently behind the scenes at Fleetwood too so, who knows, he might possibly roll up at the Quarters to sort out a few heads.

Hi guys my first post, been a gashead for years I was a steward at twerton park ,I've got a really good gut feeling JB IS GOING TO GIVE US MUCH NEEDED PASSION, and be a very good manager for us .UTG Definitely, there are positive words for everyone, he has passion, assertiveness, honesty, he understands the bottom and what it's like to be poor, he is a committed football fan. Sadly it comes with baggage but he can't he chooses to shed that, his positives can't be shrugged off so easily.

Length of Contract: Till 2023. Like ANY contract if the worst comes to the worst after the upcoming trial then his contract could be till 2050 and it wouldn’t matter. Termination for gross misconduct would void it. Moving to the area: JB yes Family No. He did move with family up to Glasgow for the Rangers transfer but now his children are older and settled in school in Liverpool. Relocation wasn’t an issue while at Fleetwood, it’s an hour drive from his home. That's a big worry, if his family moved down with him you'd hope his wife would keep him under control, a bit of a loose cannon living 2 hours away from home all week really sounds like a recipe for diaster. Let's hope he sends all his spare time watching Rovers videos and helping local charities rather then visiting pubs and nightclubs. If Barton has learnt his lesson we could well be challenging for the playoffs next season, or promotion in L2(!), but as this is Rovers we're talking about then something is bound to go wrong. I can honestly tell you that I guarantee he won't be visiting a nightclub before the end of the season 😄

It looks like the press in Hull are already stirring things up!
“Joey Barton set to reignite Hull City rivalry after taking Bristol Rovers job”.
The ex-Newcastle and Everton midfielder is back in management following his departure from City's League One rivals Fleetwood at the start of 2021.
Former England international Joey Barton has been appointed Bristol Rovers boss, and he won’t have long to wait before renewing his rivalry with Hull City.
Barton was boss at Fleetwood Town earlier in the season when he claimed there was bad blood between the side teams following an incident when the pair met at Highbury - City lost 4-1 which saw an FA investigation followed before Grant McCann's side dumped the Cod Army out of the FA Cup.
He’ll be back at the KCOM Stadium on March 6 when he brings struggling Rovers to east Yorkshire, undoubtedly looking for revenge on City.

Well I think this is a first for a Gas manager... JB is replying to fans on twitter: He replied to me last night and while it was a simple thank you for the support it made my evening. I see his is replying to alot of fans today as well and even said to one fan that once permitted why doesn’t he come to the training ground for a catch up. Now I know its only words but in a day where fans feel like players in the top leagues are a million miles apart from everyday life it does make you feel appreciated when you get acknowledged even if its just a simple reply.

Well if you were brought up watching and supporting Rovers. I apologise. But you need to get your dates right. Rovers played Newcastle away in the FA cup in the 1950/51 season.

Seems to me that Jb is already relishing being the blue underdog in a 2 team city and appears more than aware of the potential on pitch success could unleash
I don’t think anything would please him more than to lead 40000 plus gas heads back up the M4 to Wembley for a play off
Did expect a bit of a charm offensive but there’s no harm in trying to change a few minds along the way
I think this bright lad can see what’s in front of him and may choose to tailor his behaviour accordingly. If he doesn’t then he def needs his head read!
The fact that the board have backed him and also allowed his coaching team along makes this a significant day for rovers and I don’t think the board need to say much more tbh

Now we have a manager with a high profile we should gain some interesting insights into life as a player, manager and owner of a football club. Hopefully a big improvement on the petty rumours people have peddled in the past This recent podcast with Robbie Fowler is interesting podcast.app/joey-barton-e127693891/?utm_source=ios&utm_medium=share
