I think he needs a few games on the bench now to take a breather and recharge his batteries.
I’d argue that he’s a more frustrating player than Tom Nichols was for us because for every nice piece of skill or dribble we see from him, he gives the ball away by taking a poor touch or misses a decent opportunity etc. His first touch and finishing definitely need work upon.
Too often he takes the ball out wide or receives the ball in an awkward area and finds he can do nothing threatening with it. He also has a habit of being two yards too far back when the ball is crossed into the box, meaning that he rarely gets an opportunity for a simple finish like Daly does on occasion.
To add to this his goals have seemingly dried up, he’s not scored a goal since the equaliser against Blackpool and considering he was brought in to be our replacement to JCH, you’ve got to say this isn’t good enough.
I say he’s a frustrating player because I actually rate him highly as a footballer, some of his hold up play and mazy runs at the opposition are very very good. Every once in a while he pops up with a spectacular goal like his one away at Walsall in the cup. You can see why Rovers took a gamble on him because if that poachers instinct and sharper finishing was drilled into him, he could be one hell of a striker.
If we were in a better spot where we didn’t need to rely on Hanlan so much I’d almost be tempted to play him as a winger and leave the goalscoring responsibilities to others, as I think he would do well there.

So who have we got to replace him ?. Our other two strikers scored 5 between them . And Nicholson is injured.
Sadly you could argue 95% of the team needs a break..

Ayunga, his obvious replacement, cost us 2 pts tonight?

Ayunga, his obvious replacement, cost us 2 pts tonight? Poor defending in our own box cost us tonight... again

This is our shocking recruitment 2020 to replace Brandon. We expect a 20 year old in is first full season and a hard working kid playing in Chippenham division last year.
You kinda see our problem ?

Ayunga, his obvious replacement, cost us 2 pts tonight? I don't believe he is to blame every player gives away silly fouls. Where he committed the foul there should be no danger from a free kick coming directly into your box it's one of the softest goals I have seen and we have given some soft ones. Its basic defending that has cost us tonight not once but twice. Maybe getting Anssi back is the answer as I'm sure he would be organising people back there.

He really is a poor excuse for a footballer. Sadly he isn't the only one. We also have Kilgour,Baldwin,Harries,Ehmer,Leahy,Koiki, Tutonda,Upson,Grant,Day

I thought that he should have been benched for today's game and have Johna up top considering his recent form. We can all say this and that about team selection but I felt that the big man would have fitted in perfectly tonight especially with the weather conditions.

I feel sorry for him.
I've seen enough of him to think he's got it in him to be a decent striker.
At the beginning of the season he reminded me of an 18/19 year old Nathan Ellington.
He's just been flogged to death and has pretty much been up front all on his own for the whole season with no real other options or back up.
I think he needs a rest.

Ayunga, his obvious replacement, cost us 2 pts tonight? Care to explain how he lost us 2 points? It's either 3, 1 or none depending on your view.

But maybe relying on this guy is our only hope as Hanlon hasn't scored for ages and just dosent look like ending that spell. For me he isnt a natural striker no instinct to get on the end of things. We can do no worse than given JA a run as he can't do any worse and at least has scored a goal this year

Its got to be a nightmare working out players ability when the fixtures are twice weekly and there isn't much room for training.... Hanlan for me has worked hard and I'd really don't like the idea of him becoming a scapegoat for how sh**e we've been....

This thread isn’t meant to be a scapegoat thread just to be clear, I could point to maybe 3-4 others at least that are causing us more problems him. I like Hanlan, I honestly do. My only point I was making is that Hanlan’s goals have dried up and he needs a rest IMO. Daly and Ayunga have proven they can be adequate replacements in recent weeks.

Fed up with all the happy clappers on here shouting how good hanlan is.. I said he was rubbish and so it has been proven yet again. I'm fed up with us signing crap strikers who couldn't hit a barn door with no striking ability whatsoever. He's another luke James or Tom Nichols. Get rid in the summer, if anyone else will take him on, probably a conference player at best and no better than Nathan blissett. Tries hard but no talent as a striker at this level.

His debut at Sunderland was very good, and some of his goals reminded me of Ellington, a couple spring to mind, his goal at Walsall in the FA Cup was Ellington-esque, similar to The Dukes goal away at Oxford all those years ago, and his goal against Blackpool. His goal return of 8 goals in 22 games in all competitions isn't bad, considering how bad the team actually is. For me, he's one of 5, Jaakola, Kilgour(Until the last few weeks) McCormick and Nicholson who have been decent.

I never thought I’d miss Tom Nichols... but boy do we miss his build-up play. Much much tidier on the ball than any of our current attackers. I feel there’s a player in Daly and he should be given a run alongside Ayunga and as OP says, give Hanlan a rest.

When we signed hanlan, he had a poor goalscoring record so I don't understand why everyone is so surprised that he doesn't score for us!! If you don't score goals, you don't win matches. Almost all of his goals have come from the penalty spot and he has a similar goals from open play record as luke James and Tom Nichols. Why we signed him I don't know, when there were proven prolific strikers out there for us to sign like James Norwood, kabongo Tshimanga and jamille matt during that time. So frustrating that we've got another Tom Nichols on our hands. Unless we sign a proven goalscorer, we're always going to struggle
