What if the players aren’t good enough? He talks the talk so walk the walk. I think there has been limited time on the training ground, which doesn’t help. I was hoping for improved results/performances, which I think have picked up, but still not good enough. But going back to my point, if they aren’t good enough they’re not good enough. I think individually and on paper they are better than the sum of the parts but I don’t think we will see much improvement to the end of the season. I’m interested to know your thoughts, I’m guessing you don’t rate JB so would you suggest getting rid and getting our 5th manager in what is it, 2 or 3 years?

Ignoring managers for a minute and focussing on the team, in a lot of our games since Barton has taken charge, our three best players have been Ayunga, Nicholson and Rodman. With the latter two out, we’re realistically going to struggle even more than we had been doing previously.
We pressed well today and had good patches but there was no quality in the final third, 20 shots very few of them troubling the opposition keeper, no quality to bring on from the bench to change the game either. That’s the challenge Barton now faces, there’s just not many goals in this side, Leahy won’t score in every game from the wingback position.

RD is always melodramatic. He doesn’t bump threads from two years ago and is speaking the truth. His opinions are extreme. There's never balance. It's either the best team ever or the worst team ever.

I do think he’s better than Tisdale but he shouldn’t be completely absolved of any criticism as that’s not healthy.
Thought he made the subs too late today (other than the half time one) and made a mistake playing 5 defenders against a team who have recently conceded on average 2 goals a game.
Hope we see Ozzie from the start on Tuesday as think he has ability to pull a rabbit out a hat.

Come on then gaschat? What's the answer then? Talk about stating the obvious! Of course we need points. I take it you are not a Barton fan then? To rephrase... Up to date ideas = not a dinosaur /has been/rookie manager but someone who knows absolutely what is needed to be successful. He just doesn't have the players, which was bloody obvious before the season even started! Again our performances have been encouraging considering. I’m not the one talking nonsense, you are and thank you for the riddle. The fact is, “up to date ideas” are worthless, points are all that counts...and perhaps you could point me to a single “up to date idea” Barton has espoused or implemented. You are a rose tinter and as full of it as he is. Well come then, you've not answered my question? What's the answer then? Rose tinter? Wtf does that mean? I am full of what exactly? Do you even support the team? Or just want them to fail? Even a can see we've improved under Barton. Maybe morons can't understand riddles!

In my opinion our performances haven't been that bad since Barton took charge. All Rovers stats are on the left.
WIGAN Possession: 53% / 47% Shots: 19 / 5 On Target: 3 / 2 Corners: 7 /4
SHREWSBURY Possession: 46% / 54% Shots: 15 / 3 On Target: 3 / 2 Corners: 3 / 1
BURTON (We Were well ahead on all stats until McCormick got sent off) Possession: 54% / 46% Shots: 11 / 14 On Target: 1 / 5 Corners: 2 / 3
HULL Possession: 51% / 49% Shots: 9 / 9 On Target: 3 / 2 Corners: 6 / 3
ACCRINGTON Possession: 42% / 58% Shots: 15 / 10 On Target: 8 / 2 Corners: 4 / 4
WIMBLEDON Possession: 48% / 52% Shots: 19 / 10 On Target: 4 / 3 Corners: 8 / 5
CHARLTON (We were ahead in most stats at half time but never recovered from conceding 2 goals in 9 minutes before the break) Possession: 42% / 58% Shots: 7 / 15 On Target: 4 / 4 Corners: 2 / 10
PLYMOUTH Possession: 55% / 45% Shots: 22 / 15 On Target: 3 / 5 Corners: 9 / 6
So out of 32 stats over 8 games we were behind in 10. 3 of those 10 were at Burton where we were dominating until the sending off.
The stats would suggest we should have won at least 5 of those games.
I'm not sure these players are capable of much more than what we're getting. They regularly have more possession, more shots and more corners than the opposition but unfortunately our defenders switch off at vital moments and our forwards are not taking their chances.
I think Barton is the right man to help us progress long term but I'm not sure he or anyone else could keep us up this season with the players we have available.

Nice post, I’ll update my stats tables on Monday also to reflect you point bud. I know points determine success for a manager for many, but the way we play under Barton should deliver more than it has for sure.

Ah yes but The Duke and The Latvian would walk over these players. They didn’t walk over 22 other teams that year though. 2 players don’t make a good team. We were lucky only one side went down. They actually returned 5 points less than the team who were actually relegated. Who can forget Alvin Bubb,Kevin Gall and Neil Arndale. Kevin Gall wasn’t a bad player.

I believe he has brought in or is trying to instil the practice of Kaizen: “Kaizen is a Japanese term meaning "change for the better" or "continuous improvement." It is a Japanese business philosophy regarding the processes that continuously improve operations and involve all employees. Kaizen sees improvement in productivity as a gradual and methodical process. The concept of kaizen encompasses a wide range of ideas. It involves making the work environment more efficient and effective by creating a team atmosphere, improving everyday procedures, ensuring employee engagement, and making a job up more fulfilling, less tiring, and safer.”

Yes. We’ve been sh** all season long and yet... we’re still not in the relegation zone. That is an incredible thing when you weigh it up. Really and truly the way we’ve played we could easily have been adrift by now. Yet - win against Swindon and we’re suddenly pretty well placed to stay up. It’s an opportunity if the players have got the guts to take it. I don’t think there’s been a bigger IF all season they had the guts at Charlton and look where that got em you just can’t call it , it’s truly mental

You have a decent point about points though, no one can take that from you. I feel JB has made us better at losing while creating enough chances to win vs our previous managers though. And his way of playing should have and should continue to yield more than it has, which sucks ass

Tisdale was a bit of a whipping boy to be honest. Most of the damage was done before he got here. That's now 3 managers that can't get a tune out of these players though, what does that tell you? It tells me that Barton will hopefully be the last manager we have for a month or two !

Few will agree but I think Tisdale takes most of the blame. He took over a team that had showed plenty of promise during the first 11 games. We had a fairly settled team that were not short on confidence, had a clear way of playing and were playing for the manager. Defending in open play was sound but we needed to work on set pieces. We had Hanlan and Daly who were starting to form a good partnership. There was plenty to work on but surely we were only going to improve from there, especially with a January transfer window to plug any gaps from the summer recruitment. By the time Tisdale left we had no clear shape or style of play, no idea on a starting 11 and the players confidence was shot. And the window had been and gone with little more than a bang average goaly and right back signed. Is this a wind up? He did say few will agree And I don’t either but it has to be at least a factor

Of course the idea of continuous improvement, measured in a series of tiny increments is attractive and sustainable...but we do not have longer term, we need now. On a point of pendentary, Kaizen isn’t an “up to date idea”, it’s been around for centuries.

We've had 117 shots in those 8 games and scored 9 goals.
We've had 81 shots against us and conceded 12 goals.
In those 8 games only 25 opposition shots have been on target, 12 resulting in goals.
These stats would have been more heavily in our favour if McCormick hadn't been sent off at Burton because they had barely had a shot prior to that.
Performances have improved but results haven't because neither Garner or Tisdale signed a proven goalscorer and decided to release our best 2 centre backs, Craig and Davies.
Barton has also had bad luck with injuries. He's never been able to play Jaakkola or Ogogo and now has another 3 important first team players missing through injury, Grant, Rodman and Nicholson.
I'm confident Barton is the right man for the job but I'm not confident we'll stay up because of the mess he inherited.

I'm not sure anyone can realistically claim Barton is as bad as either Garner or Tisdale as things stand. He's working with a squad made up of 3 separate managers players two of which have playing styles which are polar opposites. Add to that Tisdale telling us all we have nothing up front after having a full transfer window to do something about it and it's no wonder Barton is finding things tough. After hearing his post match interview tonight I'm optimistic he has what it takes to sort us out, whether that's from league 1 or 2 remains to be seen but at least it will be with his own squad. Who says Tisdale didn’t try to get a striker or three in? Barton is spouting the usual rubbish after games, but I bet it’s basically the same squad for Tuesday even after his post match threats. you have spouted the same rubbish in your last three posts! Boring isn’t it?

We pressed well today ? when ? five mins before they scored and a spell in the last 15 of the second half that’s not pressing well that’s pressing when they were probably urged to do so by a furious manager who could hear us 120 miles miles away moaning they weren’t pressing well everyone but you obvs 🙄
