Well that leaves us with two strikers (if you can call Ayunga a striker), At Palace Daly was highly thought of and I feel he will go on to be a good player , unfortunate at Rovers with injuries and often playing in a poor team. Good luck James. I’d have Ayunga out of the two of them all day long . Time will tell if I’m right but he’s the one I’d back.

Very few players who have left us have proved to be mistakes. It always amazes me when things like Crystal Palace really rated him come out.If they did rate him that highly why did they let him go? The same way Readingt really rated Barratt? Only time will trll if Joey has made a mistake. To be honest there were few signs that he had the strength or ability to become a good striker but he may find a partnership that clicks and goes on to good things or he might just do very little like he did for us. The important things for us is not the players that go0 out but the ones that come in.

Well JB said the team that takes the field in August would be unrecognisable and this is another step in achieving that goal. To be honest I’d rather he did it this way than the admittedly cheaper method employed by Vincent Tan at Cardiff....make us wear red!!
I think James Daly could develop into a decent striker in time but we have too many development projects in our striking ranks as it is, in fact with Hanlan still learning the central role and Ayunga getting to grips with the level, you could argue a strong case that all our striker options are “Work in Progress “. Budget is finite and we have to make room in the squad for a couple of established striker options somehow.

2 prolific strikers or this level coming in then I hope. I can't watch another season of Hanlan falling over and the ball bouncing off Ayunga. Goalscorers incoming hopefully. More likely a 30 plus guy who used to score but less so recently and is in his last season or two of league football. Hope I'm wrong but that's what I expect. Sounds like what you’re describing is a bit of experience - exactly what we need to add up there!

Wish Daly well but confused by some of responses.
The lads got something, I just have no idea what it is.
Good luck to him and got no problem with him but don’t see this as one that’s going to come back to bite us. Like him or not Hanlan has far more potential. I hope Daly has a great career.

Made a mistake when we let Ryan Broom go I watched him for come on against Millwall and could see he had a decent future Daly is similar there are worse players such as Barrett in the side that I would have liked to see go first.Problem is other teams are unlikely to be interested in him.

The problem is Barrett is under contract, so what the club has to do is make them all available for free transfer, tell the players they arent part of the plans going forward and to find new clubs. Now it could be like Daly, he wants to play pro football, so is happy to tear up his own contract knowing he will get a similar contract somewhere else, have another club take over the contract he is on at Rovers, or be like Kyle Bennett and happy to suck up some cash, do nothing, and maybe get the occassional loan until his contract expires. IIRC, when we let Broom go, we had a plethora of seasoned experienced midfielders that he couldnt dislodge for a first team place and dropped into the league below with Cheltenham. At the time there was Lines, Mansell, Clarke, Sinclair, Sercombe, and Upson. That could have gone one of 2 ways, but it worked out for him. Perhaps we should have kept him, but its worth remembering the summer we released him was the season DC lost the plot, then GC had to firefight and brought in Abu Ogogo as well. I'm not sure if it would have done him any good to stay.

I guess with 3 strikers who didnt score many goals some have to leave to change things. Just adding more new strikers would block the pathway for academy players coming through.
I hope that whilst its a free transfer there are sell on clauses in the deal.
Good luck james just have bad days when you play rovers next season.

If it's to be the main man up top, then yes Pitman would be pretty disappointing, but he'd be a good addition as a squad player on a year deal imo. Experienced, former captain of Pompey. I reckon Akinde would be great to lead the line for us in L2 tbh, but can't see it happening.

Daly is the one striker who "attacked" the six yard box. He was always looking for mistakes by defenders and keepers, problem was we did not force many when he was playing. Time will tell to see if he can stay fit and score goals.

I'm not surprised he is gone to be honest. Good luck to the guy of course, but not good enough imo.
He's going somewhere he can possibly get more game time and is close to London where he's probably based.
Be very interesting to see who JB brings in now. I'd keep Ayunga, but Hanlan I would probably say to him that he's going back to being a wide player that he was for Gillingham. I know he was carrying an injury for most of the season, but never looked like a natural striker to me.

Daly worked hard but ultimately he was part of the worst strike force I have seen at Rovers. I’m not disappointed with this and I would happily lose a few more from last season.

I’d much rather that than a fat old bloke who used to play for them across the river....their cast offs very rarely work out here.

No loss . Move on and get a striker who scores in this division Be he 40 years old and fat. Better then another reject from a development squad that has nice boots and hair

Missed six games with diarrhoea ... incredible ! That said bet he will score goals at Stevenage - really hoping that’s the first of many to move on. Where you got that info from as I thought it was Rodman who missed games due to diarrhoea/weight loss? It's odd how JB never played him claiming that he wasn't fit, was he worried he might actually score goals if he played. It was at the start of the season from memory ... Was the first alarm bell about him and yet another for our medical team. I remember at the time looking up what went in to Imodium to see if players were banned from taking it.

Daly’s record isn’t all that different when you consider 14 of his 31 games were sub appearances and most of then in the last ten. I think he played around 1200 minutes so translates to a one in 4 record. I’ve no issue with him going if we replace him with better...I think we should be aiming for better than pitman,Akinde or someone like McGleish.

I don’t know why some of our fans are disappointed that Daly has left my nephew who is a Palace fan said when we signed him he was injury prone he was proved right
