The hassle of even getting ready to get to a game just is not worth it. As proved today with the Swansea game being called off. Get your ticket online pay a handling charge then you have to print it yourself if you dont have a smartphone. Potentially paying for a pcr test from september Have to go by car as the public transport is limiting numbers and would never get there. Get outside the ground early enough as told and then get informed the players have covid and it's off.hassle of getting a refund minus the handling charge and lost your money on a pcr. Happy days I mean it was called off by 10am today. Unless you’re travelling from somewhere like Manchester then you’re unlikely to be affected by travel. You only need an LFT and they’re free, or you can get double vaxxed and not have to worry. And the tickets will of course be refunded inc the booking fee. All a load of hassle for nothing though as the OP suggests, buy a ticket and download it, get a test and download result, arrange non public transport, then find out on the morning of the game its off. It was far easier (and cheaper) last season just to open the iFollow app at 2:45pm and see if the game was on or not!

But you run that risk in winter anyway due to weather (especially in lower leagues like we’re now in). I guess it all depends on if you’re happy watching ifollow or if you’d rather be watching it in person. I know what I’d prefer and I’d happily take the risk of it being called off. But then for me it’s only a short car or bus ride.

The problem is then cost as the free test is only at the moment being funded by the government until sept.going to a game is going to get costly if you have to pay up to 30 quid and you wont get your money back if a match gets cancelled.

I literally have loads if you ever need any , I’m not vaxxed though so you might want to sanitise them first 😉

But a lateral flow test doesn't guarantee anything. It relies upon the honesty of the person logging the result. I wonder if any of the hundreds of thousands of football fans (and others) will log a convenient result? And it also relies upon the tester carrying out the test correctly. Ramming that swab right down your throat and up your nose. Not wiggling it in your mouth for 2 seconds. The vaccines don't guarantee anything either but at least they provide much better protection from getting ill. It's all becoming a bit of a farce really. Every event and location seems to have different rules on vaxing, testing, masks and distancing, and it would be no surprise to me if people just start doing whatever they feel. It's not like anyone takes the government seriously now anyway, what with ministers ignoring their own rules and creating others to suit themselves.

So a couple of footballers from a regularly tested covid bubble contract the virus and the game is called off. Makes you wonder how many rovers fans roaming free in the area with the virus it would take to cancel the match 3 maybe or perhaps 5 even? If we take the knee for BLM how about shaking a fist or similar for FLM
Piers Morgan has revealed he thinks he caught coronavirus while watching England play at Wembley.
The journalist and television presenter told the Mail on Sunday he contracted Covid despite being double vaccinated.
In a pot on Twitter, he said it has been “a long ten days”.
He added: Yes, it’s certainly been one of the more interesting (and unnerving…) experiences of my life, but it gave my a new perspective on covid, vaccines & where we are.”
Writing in his column for the newspaper, Morgan said he thinks he caught the virus during England’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy.
“My confidence that the event would be ‘covid safe’ had disintegrated,” he said. “It was turning into an unregulated free-for-all.”

Agreed , I take a test twice a week as a precaution , it beats not using them at all. As I’m not interested in taking the vaccine I do take extra caution and will continue to do so.

The worry is that it seems being double vaccinated is still no real defence against catching COVID.

The worry is that it seems being double vaccinated is still no real defence against catching COVID. It's not worrying in the slightest, getting a bit sick of this common attitude amongst the public that if you've had the vaccine then you can't catch it. It is absolutely not true, and is was never communicated in that way, it is a lazy opinion without research. It was said that it was x% effective in symptomatic Covid. Then when the new variants came out, it was measured as "x% in preventing severe disease". Vaccines will drastically lower the known/symptomatic cases, as well as deaths but with the new variant - many will still catch it and be ill, only mildly. And yes, people will unfortunately still die. But 100 deaths a day is much lower than 1000 deaths a day, right? As for Piers Morgan - blokes an idiot. Firstly you can't be certain where you catch it, although it seems pretty likely it was Wembley with many fans catching it from there. However, I was there with my dad & 2 friends - we followed social distancing and kept out masks on indoors, guess what... all negative! 80% of Wembley weren't following the guidelines at all and it seems those people caught it. If he had followed the rules in the first place, then it's much less likely that he'd have caught it.

When are we going to stop this nonsense. What’s the point in ‘freedom day’ if we still have to put everything on hold over positive tests. The vulnerable are double vaxxed… get on with it!!
A virus spreading as a global pandemic is NOT NONSENSE. Get a grip of yourself and accept the truth verified by world health experts. "Freedom Day" is only for some, some are no longer here to enjoy it, others will suffer for months and years to come both physically and mentally. Everyone is vulnerable whether they accept that reality or not. Those that have accepted the jab have helped the "Freedom Day" we all crave. Those who have been double jabbed are still catching the virus (and thus suffering AND spreading it FACT)
For my part I do think we have to return to some sort of normality, as the players are required to test and have covid rules why not fans as well?. I was pleasantly surprised the club required double jab proof but the get out clause of LFT which can and will IMO be circumvented by the unbelievers.
I do not think for one moment the club will extend these safety measure beyond either the friendly games and perhaps a few League games. The deal breaker for me is the non mandatory mask wearing both walking about and whilst the game is in progress. in at least some areas. The club has stated they have segregated area set up for the Swansea game, How easy is it to use segregated areas where masks are mandatory so that believers and non believers can both have their comfort zones. On this issue it is possible to please all of the fans all of the time. (Just sort out the football as well please!) We have been and still are in many places still wearing masks and RESPECTING both ourselves and others concerns. Simply to deny it's an ongoing problem is the nonsense, and many fans will feel unable to attend matches knowing full well that covid is not under control to an acceptable level especially as new variant is under review in the UK. It's up to Starmes if he wants ALL fans back or not!!!
