Aren’t the rules, that wearing a mask is not mandatory, after 19th July? So, if you wish to wear one, carry on, if you don’t, you don’t have to. I say ta da 👋👋 😷 I’m personally cool with nae masks, but In fairness ta others pal, I think th issue is wearing a mask is ta protect those around you, not yourself. So I can see how some folk feel a bit aggrieved by th rule. They will be wearing a mask ta protect others who don’t want ta protect them. I just hope we can all respect others an maybe if necessary put on our masks if others feel uncomfortable. 👍

Sadly there are too many others that are oblivious to this either because they don't know, or don't care.

Yep anyone who does not where a mask is a selfish inconsiderate b@stard* (in my opinion). The government should have continued with the mask mandate until everyone is double vaccinated and the numbers of infections is consistently low.
Wearing a mask in public was the norm in Several Asian countries even before Covid so no reason why it should not become the norm here. (as it has been during the pandemic)
*Exemptions apply

I'm sorry mate but this is way ott. There will never be a time when everyone is jabbed, ever. The infections are just a game imo. It's the fatalities which matter and let's be honest, the way the stats are assembled is a bit questionable. These Asian countries. Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick, they often wear masks in China, Japan, PI cities to protect the lungs against thick pollution. The recent release for Lisbon is an interesting one. Most importantly, we need to respect eachothers stance and act accordingly. The same as many other scenarios.

Wouldn’t an FFP3(?) type mask be better protection than others around them having tatty old cotton masks that they’ve been using for months?

I did not think you used this forum anymore? I will make no apology for the way I feel (ott or not) Yes the Asians wore masks because of air pollution but the point I was making is the wearing of them was normal practise pre Covid and no one batted an eyelid. If you wore a mask in the UK prior to Covid everyone would think you were up to no good or turned the wrong way on your way to theatre! Best wishes mate

The vulnerable person wearing a high quality mask or them and those around them wearing cheap old cotton masks? If I was very scared of COVID despite the vaccination programme I would wear the high quality mask but in the past year and a half I’ve barely seen anyone wearing them.

I'll try not to give you the customary greeting next time we meet then? That used to involve a bit of dry humping and lots of kissing. Shame.

That’s what paramedics were looking like in March/April last year. Looked like they were entering Chernobyl - they haven’t since.

I'm confused what is being debated. My understanding is that from the 19th July it is up to you if you wear a mask or want to walk 2 metres away from anyone else.
We are back to as we were from the 19th July. People can wear a mask if they like but must respect that some/moat no longer want to.
Will bring a tear to my eye hearing the faithful sing Irene once again, will be a special moment.

Wont be attending but more to do with JB and Co rather than Covid. First time in many years I'm letting my head rule my heart. I will attend the odd game maybe and won't be bothered by anything covid related, if rovers impose mandatory rules then I definitely won't go.

So there you have it? Is Bristol Rovers the "Family Club" some fans thought they supported. Some fans support the club and fellow fans, others ISTM only the club! Two finger up to being scared and being told what to do because I am invincible Fact check. From 19th July it will not be legally mandated by government to wear a mask, but it is strongly recommended to take "personal responsibility" to do so! Even those who are double vaccinated can catch covid, pass it to others and die. Wearing masks protects others as well as the wearer from catching and passing on covid. Those that do catch it and survive can still be hospitalised and suffer Long Covid The Government predicts that 2m "yes" 2m people will catch covid in the summer months of July, August and September 2021. The start of the football season! I presume Rovers fans predominately live in Bristol or South Glos where 754 and 651 people respectively caught covid in the last 7 days. Covid currently is a super spreader strain that "could" mutate again! I am not of the mindset to prevent fans attending football, but is it really that hard to think of others and wear a mask? At least in some defined areas where those who care nothing for their fellow man can watch without masks and others like me can attend without fearing the worst? I fear that many like me will seriously consider not attending if some restraint by the club is not introduced! The club we all claim to support will suffer loss of income, loss of fans, loss of atmosphere of lower crowds and possible bitter feuds between fans in attitude to mask less fans encroaching, shouting and coughing into others space. WEAR A MASK!!! I for one have attended most home and away pre-season friendlies in the last few decades but won't be attending this season. That's a loss of income to both clubs and possible employment as well as my loss of enjoyment. Please wear a mask!!!

Very god points, and just to make clear you do not to get very ill from covid to get long covid. I know of people who caught it, not hospitalised, no underlying health issues and yet they have been unable to work for months because of this long-covid. I feel this has not ben monitored or highlighted enough. Yes the vaccine can prevent serious ill health and hospitalisation, but not seen anything to suggest that long covid is not a risk if you have been jabbed. Makes one think that masks should be worn if full attendance, wearing a mask protects others, not yourself. To go or not to go, that is the question.

I do worry that masks give people a false sense of security and the evidence for their effectiveness seems questionable. At the end of the day it will be down to personal judgement and people shouldn't be called out or shamed if they don't want to wear one. Wearing a mask outside for 90+ minutes doesn't feel massively appealing to me, and the evidence doesn't appear to back up the necessity.
