So there you have it? Is Bristol Rovers the "Family Club" some fans thought they supported. Some fans support the club and fellow fans, others ISTM only the club! Two finger up to being scared and being told what to do because I am invincible Fact check. From 19th July it will not be legally mandated by government to wear a mask, but it is strongly recommended to take "personal responsibility" to do so! Even those who are double vaccinated can catch covid, pass it to others and die. Wearing masks protects others as well as the wearer from catching and passing on covid. Those that do catch it and survive can still be hospitalised and suffer Long Covid The Government predicts that 2m "yes" 2m people will catch covid in the summer months of July, August and September 2021. The start of the football season! I presume Rovers fans predominately live in Bristol or South Glos where 754 and 651 people respectively caught covid in the last 7 days. Covid currently is a super spreader strain that "could" mutate again! I am not of the mindset to prevent fans attending football, but is it really that hard to think of others and wear a mask? At least in some defined areas where those who care nothing for their fellow man can watch without masks and others like me can attend without fearing the worst? I fear that many like me will seriously consider not attending if some restraint by the club is not introduced! The club we all claim to support will suffer loss of income, loss of fans, loss of atmosphere of lower crowds and possible bitter feuds between fans in attitude to mask less fans encroaching, shouting and coughing into others space. WEAR A MASK!!! I for one have attended most home and away pre-season friendlies in the last few decades but won't be attending this season. That's a loss of income to both clubs and possible employment as well as my loss of enjoyment. Please wear a mask!!! Sorry to see that. I do worry that masks give people a false sense of security and the evidence for their effectiveness seems questionable. At the end of the day it will be down to personal judgement and people shouldn't be called out or shamed if they don't want to wear one. Wearing a mask outside for 90+ minutes doesn't feel massively appealing to me, and the evidence doesn't appear to back up the necessity.
Data when wearing masks 1000 covid cases a day to without masks predicted to be 100,000 case a day. I see not proven ehh?

So we have to wear a mask for some to attend otherwise we are being selfish but still want to watch professional sportsmen playing a contact sport without protection for their enjoyment .surely that's selfish. After all they are only a product for your entertainment. As they say cant have your cake.

The rules for Euros was over 20 mins in very close proximity, players are not close for very long during a game so one assumes the risk is very low, as compared to two hours on the terraces! Wonder if the risk is greater on terraces as compared to seats as you can have someone very close on all 4 sides!

It's probably too late for this season but there are no doubt many elderley and / or vulnerable fans that are not comfortable returning to a packed stadium with no social distancing or mask wearing.
There are lots of people with conditions which mean they're still at risk and many more take immunosuppressant drugs which make the vaccine ineffective. Anyone who lives with somebody in that situation would also need to take extra care. I think it would have been a good idea to keep a small section of the stadium where mask wearing and social distancing was still required. It might have encouraged some of those anxious, elderley and / or vulnerable fans to return to the stadium. From personal experience there are a number in this category, who have either not renewed season tickets or have bought season tickets but won't use them until they have more confidence in being in a crowd again.
I'm not sure about a segregated area, but continued access to games via ifollow would be welcomed by many. This is probably an EFL decision, but if they are true to their inclusion mission, they really need to take this issue on board.

Wearing a mask outside for 90+ minutes doesn't feel massively appealing to me, and the evidence doesn't appear to back up the necessity. Not sure there is no evidence. "According to a number of laboratory tests and multiple studies, the main value from wearing face masks is that they block up to 80% of these droplets from escaping into the air. They may also prevent about 50% of droplets from being inhaled too. Real-world studies are a bit harder to come by, but the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has highlighted a few. In one high-exposure event, two hair stylists - who were displaying symptoms - were found to have interacted with 139 clients during an eight-day period The stylists and the clients all wore masks, and of the 67 clients who subsequently consented to an interview and were tested, not a single one had become infected. An international report published in The Lancet, which analysed data from 172 studies in 16 countries, found that by wearing a face mask there is just a 3% chance of catching COVID-19." www.google.com/amp/s/news.sky.com/story/amp/covid-19-what-does-the-science-actually-say-about-face-masks-12349337

iFollow access to season ticket holders makes perfect sense.
The club don't lose out financially and the fan gets to choose whether to attend or not.
Clubs may actually make more money because as you say. some haven't purchased a season ticket because they're not ready to return to crowded stadiums. If they were told they'd have the option to watch on iFollow they may have purchased a season ticket.

Seems a bit speculative to me tbh. “Predicted v Proven” 🤔 Government predictions. "UK health minister Sajid Javid said coronavirus cases could rise to 100,000 per day after restrictions in England are lifted on 19 July. The UK recorded an average of 25,447 new cases per day in the seven days up to 2 July. Javid told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that thanks to the “huge wall of defence” provided by the covid-19 vaccination programme, covid-19 deaths are currently only one-thirtieth of those the last time daily cases were around 25,000 per day. Nevertheless, Azra Ghani at Imperial College London said in a statement that “current trends in hospital admissions, if extrapolated […] could put a severe strain on the NHS”. Other scientists, such as Christina Pagel at University College London, have expressed concerns about the risks of long covid." www.google.com/amp/s/www.newscientist.com/article/2237475-covid-19-news-growing-concern-over-planned-easing-of-rules-in-england/amp/

I think people have to take a bit of personal responsibility in respect of mask wearing rather than be like lemmings and wait for a dictat from above.

One of the secondary schools near me had a surge in cases shortly after the mask wearing was lifted for secondary school children. I was speaking with the parents of another child, one a teacher and one a nurse, they were adamant it was the lifting of mask rules in school. Circumstantial though, I would agree.

All very risky and cause a huge amount of Ill health and death. So Rovers and its fans should only allow people who have walked to the ground. Only sell water and lettuce for refreshments. No smoking and abandon the game if its too sunny because of the risk of skin damage. Let's do this.

I shall attend, but I will wear a mask, I will also wear a pouch that contains a bottle of hand gel. ( I am lucky that my missus makes masks to NH standards, and small pouches that contain hand gel. Touching infected areas are just as dangerous, door handles ect.
If anyone would like one, just message me. Though it will be next week before she makes anymore as she broke her arm in a fall, but the cast comes off next week (Thank God!)

I am 71 and my age puts me in the at risk category. I have abided by all the safeguarding advice since the start of covid and for several months have had both jabs. Like all gasheads I have watched us on IFollow in recent times and can't wait to get back and watch a live game at the Mem. I welcome the government's latest intended path and fully realise we have to get back to normal asap and live with the risks of covid in the immediate future. Like most I have watched the Euros etc etc on the box and seen huge crowds with the vast majority not wearing facemasks, as will be the case tonight and for the final with a full capacity at the weekend. I have seen the tennis at Wimbledon this past week and more and seen the crowds on centre and number one court with the majority not wearing masks even when the roofs are shut. I hope to attend the Mem shortly and will not be wearing a mask unless the club stipulates that we do. I would consider that a crowd of around 6000 at the Mem would pose far less a risk than a full house at Wembley and Wimbledon and I would further suggest the Mem is far more open air than either of those two. My ST is in the West enclosure with the rest of the old moaning gits and I look forward to meeting up with the regulars in my area and watching the action without my mask and my specs not steaming up. Some on here will class me in the selfish group, I wonder what their thoughts are on the examples I have quoted as well as all of the huge outdoor festivals etc which are now getting the green light to start up again.

I think the club should create a safety zone for fans like yourself. There will be quite a few with concern and it shouldn't be too difficult to cater for.

Surely that's breached the minute we step out of bed in the morning right? Frightening how we've been bombarded with the message that friends, family and community should be avoided at all costs to keep 'safe', yet many will have no issue with being unfit, overweight, drinking frequently etc.
