Also one of my favourite moments, that probably in the grand scheme of things would get forgotten, came in stoppage time at the end of the game. Harries passes a ball aimlessly towards the corner to waste time and Collins sprints from the other side of the pitch chasing a seemingly hopeless cause and forces their goalkeeper to give us a throw in.
Just loved seeing that so late on when it would have been easy to just let them try start another attack and hope the defence deals with it. Particularly from a player just coming back from injury at the end of a full game as well.

Really great to get a victory at home in front of fans at last. Feels like an age since we last had the positive buzz you get walking out the ground from a win.
Lot’s to be positive about tonight. Finley was superb, his work rate is second to none and he plays some lovely passes. Good to see Collins back, I think he helps our build up play a lot.
Delighted that Saunders has got up and running with his first Gas goal, first of many hopefully.
Nice to see Pittman back in the side again and getting some minutes, same goes for Nicholson.
Rodman was extremely good coming into the side in that wing back role with his intelligent movement and passes. Hoole’s been good in recent weeks but he will have a tough time getting picked if Rodman keeps up that level of performance.
Oldham were poor, looked all at sea defensively at times and rarely threatened Belshaw who had a mostly quiet night.
The second half wasn’t the prettiest but I really liked seeing our game management towards the end. Showed a bit of experience and calmness that we simply didn’t have last year.
Onwards to Exeter where getting a result will be very plausible if we play as well as we did in that first half.

This is what I was expecting to see this evening. We finally win a game, our first win in 11 games and just JB's 4th win in 22 games and we get "can you hear the haters sing". Is that really needed? Can you not enjoy the win like the rest of us without throwing digs towards your fellow fans? You do realise us "haters" don't actually want us to lose right? We actually want to win. We love Rovers more than we hate JB believe it or not. We are delighted with the win this evening. We played very well in the first half and I hope we really build on this and gained confidence on this win. But let's be sensible here yeah. If Rovers lose on Saturday, you won't see me saying "can you hear the lovers sing".

The personnel are temporary, the love is permanent. We will always have different views, but we all want the same.

Just got back and haven’t read the thread but FWIW. It was a well deserved win and with a different ref and a bit more composure in the box we’d have had a few more. Saunders and Collins were very good always stretching the Oldham defence and really worked hard. I liked Saunders energy, he really kept going and Collins looked a skilful and intelligent player. He gave defenders an out ball every time and he ran into the channels to cause real problems for Oldham. Looked a clever player. The defence just about got away with it in the second half because Oldham came into it far more and the changes they made at HT improved them. Hughes and Anderson played well and won most of the aerial battles and I really liked Belshaw, he seemed more confident than any other keeper for us recently. Grant and Finley both played well and for me Finley was my MOM. He really had a great first half and in the second was running out of puff near the end but he kept going and drive others on. Anderson was good and was always hassling them and made lots of good runs and Luke Thomas caused them problems and with more composure could have scored a couple. Overall we were good, we should have killed the game by HT and against a better team we may have paid the price. Oldham weren’t that good, some good passing in midfield but didn’t really threaten us but we’ll face better teams (we already have) and will be tested more than tonight but you can only beat what’s in front of you and we did that tonight. And looking at the team defensively we seem much tighter despite letting in late goals so far. Tonight we concentrated and kept the points we’d earned, against Mansfield and Stevenage we lost points late on. Well done the team, glad I made the journey! UTG!

They can prove to be even more important than a goal. Having said that: The standard of the first half of the game was the worst I think I have seen in 60 years of watching professional football! Oldham's defence should have been pulled up before the trading standards office. They were definitely not providing what they purported. Rovers' attack was laughable (if it was not so important after the failures after the last few years). The number of chances that were created, whether by design or accident, yet not even turned goalward was embarrassing. Hopefully, said misses will not prove costly come the end of the season. We definitely need to sign a goalscorer. I reckon Pitman will score 10 or more but we still need someone around the 20 goal mark.

Mmm, interesting comments, thought we looked much better first half , yes missed a few prob through lack of confidence but showed promise, Oldham were all over the place agreed, think we were all looking for signs of improvement and i for one saw reasons to be hopeful in Finley, Anderson, Rodman ,Collins, and others, certainly do not think there efforts were laughable.

I prefer to put it down to complete lack of practice in the opposition half! Hopefully with the fitter the players get and start to understand each other more, we will turn a lot more of these chances into goals. We still need to remember that there are players out there (such as Rodman) who didn't play one minute of pre season.

If there's one thing that get's your mojo back it's a win and a performance like that. Outstanding 1st half, Rodman tore them apart, should have had a few pens, the whole squad pulling together as a Team for a change, chasing everything. Forgotten what it was like to celebrate a goal!!! 2 half was different, Oldham needed to come out, defence handled it no problem really. All put in a shift tonight, but to single one out, Collins was MOM for me.
What a lovely feeling.

Not seen a attacking display at the mem in the first half for years. We made Oldham look poor they couldn't handle attacks coming from everywhere. If they plugged s gap in one area we exploited it somewhere else. The forward line ran them ragged.collins pulled them to pieces playing off the shoulder. Once these players are match fit it's going to be a side worth watching. Brilliant for us see out a game by playing the way other teams do to us as well.

Last night was a great insight into this team. First 45 was one of the best halves I've seen at the mem in a long time. We stretched them with our pace and movement and like others have said should have been out of sight at half time. Tbf to Oldham they changed it up at half time with a couple of subs and stopped us playing so high up the pitch. Grant and Finlay were outstanding and gives JB a big headache ahead of Exeter with Coutts available. One thing that stood out was work rate something that was non-existent for a lot of last season also how we closed out the game. Grant was fantastic last night and did the real dirty work that goes un-noticed, he looks a lot stronger and mobile this season. All in all a decent performance and a much needed win, I left the ground last night relieved and thinking just how good this team could be in a few months especially with Clarke, Coutts and maybe a couple more new faces to come in. The re-build was always going to take time to gel and picking up 1-0 wins along the way in the manner we did is more than adequate, it buys time.

Great to have a win at last. Didn't watch the whole game but just saw the highlights. Glad the hear that the attacking display in the first half was good...but attacking includes sticking the ball in the net and judging from the highlights our finishing was woeful, and on another day could easily have cost us points. Glad to hear Rodman played well...in my view he is the most intelligent player at the club and has been since he arrived. If he stays fit he should be an automatic starter.

much better last night. More pace and energy.
Like Anderson from the 2 games I have seen.
I was a bit worried about Oldham at times as when they did have the ball, we gave them too much space at times, but a job well done overall.
Apart from the win, Pitman was the highlight as a laugh. Looked far from fit and some of the tumbles. Not slagging him off, because When fit he will be better than that, but he was so far off any sort of fitness
