Is there any better feeling then walking away from the mem following a win? With being away for 18 months it felt like that x10!

Was thinking the same. It’s almost as if people want us to lose, so they can say I told you so. I'm sure nobody wants us to lose. I did not follow the thread because I was enjoying the game and did not have time to check my phone. I have only looked at it since I got home. Remember we are not used to going to evening games and getting home late, perhaps some are tired or catching up with partners or family rather than looking on here Figure of speech rather than actually wanting us to lose What I more meant by it was those who were claiming we’ll be in NL, Barton out etc - it would be nice if they commented on the games we win as well, rather than just the games we lose

I found the first half very entertaining. Helped me remember what it's like to be excited at the football!
We got in behind well and that's credit to the 3 or 4 lads who chased down everything in the channels. A couple of times they got to balls that the defenders had already given up on which is a big plus.
Just watched the highlights and it's clear we should have put a couple more away to reward what I thought was a dominant first half.
Took us 30 minutes in the second half to switch on. I was getting nervous that it was becoming a familiar story of nervously sitting on a 1-0 which has been a thorn in our side for the last year at least. Getting balls into the channels was such a fruitful tactic last night I don't understand why they stopped doing it. It seemed a low risk high reward way to play. During that period we made a poor Oldham team look decent, giving them way more respect than they deserved.
Anyway, 3 points is a huuuuuge relief. Can't make the next couple of away games so I'm hoping when I'm next at a game things have calmed down in general. I'm not in the "JB Barmy Army" (especially not one of those chanting it last night yet booing him off 72 hours ago!) and I'm not into his special pre Match round of applause either. But he's here to do a job and if he does it well I can appreciate/respect his work if nothing else.
On another note, it'll be interesting to see how pitman fits in for games like this. Our threat was running in behind which he ain't built for (as evidenced by the unwilling run in the channel towards the end). On the other hand, it felt like we needed a finisher within the width of the box to gobble up all the crossed chances. May be a difficult balance to strike between what seemed to me like a pace driven attack (which I enjoyed) and the need for some nous (which usually comes with a bit less in the legs).
UTG
PS The ref was crap. Whilst Saunders went down without a touch he wasn't appealing at all. In fact he was back on his feet before the ref blew his whistle! Should not have been a booking and play should have continued. After that I think he backed himself into a corner of not wanting to be seen to be swayed by the home crowd so stubbornly refused to give anything. Could have easily had a penalty (or maybe even two) on another night.

Starting 11 had 8 newly signed players.
Alex Rodman, Jack Baldwin and Josh Grant were the only starters from last season.
In a team that performed well, especially in the first 45, these 3 all played very well.
Brett Pitman looked far from fit. He appeared to be hobbling in the warm-up. Very surprised he played at all.

But after so many defeats, I can understand that any win to put a smile on our faces is welcome!!

Was out tonight but absolutely thrilled to see that we've won a match! Seems like it was an impressive performance. Well done Gas and well done Joey Barton, credit where credit is due. I wouldn't go that far Jomo. When I've been openly critical of the performances and the general slide down the ladder these last few months, it's only fair that I praise a decent performance and a win. It goes both ways. Time will tell as to whether we've turned a corner, but I really hope we have. I've never disliked JB, I've questioned his methods and a lot of what he says in the press, but ultimately if he gets us playing and winning, I'll be happy.

Great feeling waking up this morning after a win .... Wahay!!
Thought we were excellent first half and last ten minutes of the second half.
Some stand out oerformances for me ....
Finley was superb - When he has his pal Coutts alongside him he will get even better. Remember as well he is still getting match fitness. Grant - Very tidy and broke up play very well. Belshaw - Solid and looked very comfortable but a defence needs that, would very happily let him keep the shirt. Collins - Still not match fit and willingly chased everything.
Other guys were good ... Baldwin did better than expected , I thought Saunders and Thomas got in each others way at times and Thomas sulking at the end after a win was poor viewing.
Shout out also to Brett Pitman ... He is far from fit but desperate to be involved in the match day set up, came on and held up play well to help see out the game.
So hugely enjoyable night overall - thought the team gave everything especially as four or five still have games to go to get up to speed.
Interesting how JBs tone has changed towards Clint Hill - Sad he has gone but already looking for an uplift on the ability of the next No2.
Big game Saturday - very winnable if we play like that again.

Thoroughly enjoyed that last night.
Getting the win and 3 points on the board is of course a huge relief. But apart from that I was entertained in the first half and had almost forgotten that feeling of excitement when your team is on the attack and creating decent chances. I can't honestly remember the last time I celebrated a goal at the mem but it must have been a very long time ago!
Really hope we can build on this now and keep this going forward.
I'm not a fan of JB but will give credit where it's due and I can see that the summer recruitment has been very good and there's clearly even more to come from the group. As others I was particularly impressed with Collins, Saunders, Anderson and Finley but I like the look of Belshaw and it was really good to see Rodders back to form.
For the first time in ages I'm actually looking forward to the next game, just keeping my fingers crossed that we can maintain and build on this and not take a step backwards. So many dashed hopes over the last 18 months I'm almost scared to believe.
UTG!

To get a win last night against a referee who seemed to revel in performing in front of a home crowd in which he thought he should be the star was satisfying.they seem to be getting worse with every game.

The ref should be sacked for his performance last night! not that the standard of reffing at this level is great anyway but he took it to a whole new level.

This is what I was expecting to see this evening. We finally win a game, our first win in 11 games and just JB's 4th win in 22 games and we get "can you hear the haters sing". Is that really needed? Can you not enjoy the win like the rest of us without throwing digs towards your fellow fans? You do realise us "haters" don't actually want us to lose right? We actually want to win. We love Rovers more than we hate JB believe it or not. We are delighted with the win this evening. We played very well in the first half and I hope we really build on this and gained confidence on this win. But let's be sensible here yeah. If Rovers lose on Saturday, you won't see me saying "can you hear the lovers sing". It is a fact though that 'bad' always gets more attention than 'good' eg Stevenage 24 pages, Oldham 14 thus far. Yes, it’s strange, this must be the shortest match day thread I can remember (I know it’s not finished, but even so). Yet we won with a very decent performance after so many matches without a win. A sign of the club atm, perhaps. UTG!

I tried not to mention the ref when I posted earlier. But he was crap but that’s the standard in League 2 so we’d better get used to it. In the first half I was along way from the penalty, sat in the East Stand far end but I thought Collins tried to keep his feet and got up. Poor decision. We’re going to have to succeed despite the refs I think. UTG!

This thread is shorted because 1) we won so fewer arguments and rants 2) it is an evening game so people got home and went to bed and 3) not everyone was watching on iFollow.
Stop trying to make everything divisive!
