Oldham Athletic assistant Colin West says there "should have been fights" in the dressing room at half-time in their 1-0 defeat by Bristol Rovers.
West has taken charge on a temporary basis after head coach Keith Curle tested positive for Covid-19 last week.
Rovers' win ended an eight-game losing streak while the Latics have lost all three league games so far this season.
"It's not acceptable in my eyes. We need to get hold of each other and start fighting," West said.
"They [Bristol Rovers] were bottom of the league and scrambling around for points, and we didn't turn up. There's not enough men in that dressing room at the moment.
"I said to them, 'I should have come in at half-time and there should have been fights. People should have been having people against the wall.'
"I said 'there's probably six or seven out of this group that I'd want to go to war with and that's not good enough.'"
The defeat and unimpressive performance left Oldham bottom of the League Two table with the club the only team in the league not to pick up a point so far this season.
Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, West added: "It's a serious concern for us, but whether the players think that, I don't know.
"There will be some who are hurting inside but it's so disappointing that we've been beaten by a team who are low on morale, have just broken a record of eight losses, yet we can't turn them over or give them a real good bash in the first half.
"Everybody nowadays wants to be friends with each other, which is alright but if somebody is not doing their job and it allows you not to do your job properly, then tell them.
"This is where you earn your money. You can't just just say 'oh I don't want to tell him because he might not be my friend anymore' it's not about that."

I did listen to the Oldham post match interview, I thought their assistant manager Colin West spoke very well. Very passionate and honest, reminded me of DC. Good luck to them in turning it around, I have a soft spot for Keith Curle.

Just out of interest, and because I missed it, who was Captain last night? Hughes. Really happy with the leadership that Finley showed as well.
Don't want to go overboard, but we definitely have more fighters in this side than last season.

Tues and last sat were like night and day, encouraging performance although let's not go overboard one swallow doesn't make a summer and all that, plus Oldham were not very impressive and their assistant gaffer would agree.
I was critical that we played one up top last Sat, no bite, no punch, no getting at them. Tues was the opposite because we had Saunders, Collins and Thomas up there, we had width and Grant and Finley ran the centre midfield.
Now we need to find that consistently and do it against better sides.

Blimey I'm glad I'm not an Oldham fan reading that after just a few games at the start of the season!

This is what I was expecting to see this evening. We finally win a game, our first win in 11 games and just JB's 4th win in 22 games and we get "can you hear the haters sing". Is that really needed? Can you not enjoy the win like the rest of us without throwing digs towards your fellow fans? You do realise us "haters" don't actually want us to lose right? We actually want to win. We love Rovers more than we hate JB believe it or not. We are delighted with the win this evening. We played very well in the first half and I hope we really build on this and gained confidence on this win. But let's be sensible here yeah. If Rovers lose on Saturday, you won't see me saying "can you hear the lovers sing". I'm still singing songs from last night. Bloody Hell at times it was loud in the Thatchers. Fantastic effort from passionate fans - of which we all are, in our own funny ways. That level of support is guaranteed when we see a committed performance. " This is what I was expecting to see this evening" - I can't help but think if you had that expectation in advance, it must be an unwelcomed by-product resulting from constant negativity on here. Perhaps I'm wrong - I can't really comment as I am certainly a glass half full fan. I look forward to GasChat being a more positive place. Bravo for taking the lead on that. UTG. UTJBBAWA. The constant negativity on here has been fully justified by the fact that everything has been negative for the past 18 months or so. There hasn't been may positives have there! Something positive happened, for once, on Tuesday night and you made it into negative by goading your own fans instead of celebrating the win with them. I expected this to happen because there are a fair few on here who are pro JB and would be desperate to see Rovers win just to have a go at those anti JB. To my surprise though, there wasn't as many as I thought, which was good to see and fair shout to those for not creating more division. The only way this place can begin to be more positive is if people start respecting each other on here and accept we all want the best for Rovers but just have different views on what that is, and to stop bickering with each other. 3 points is all that is needed to start this process, regardless of our negative opinions to certain issues.

Yep, as Coutts proved at Mansfield Something of nothing, but the laws defeated justice on that occasion.
I think Coutts will also be a real asset this season.
