The shinning light for me, is even if all the anti Joey posters did not ever turn up again at the MEM, they would not be missed, as the Joey factor has ensured recent games have been sold out, and season tickets for next season have been selling like hot cakes. Surely they'd be missed when the glory seekers all disappear again, as they always do when we hit a bad patch, and we're back to relying upon the faithful 5,000?

Let’s not get into fans won’t be missed eh, we all have different opinions, thoughts on a variety of things but we’re ALL Gasheads. Personally I’d welcome back any supporters who chose not to go for a while, whatever their reason.

So imagine a time in the future when we have a manager who gets us relegated. It will happen. At the end of that season, would you support that manager and be glad to see the back of those who didn't? What would it take for you criticise anything? Administration? Remember the peak criticism of Joey came after a bottom place in L1 and 18th or something in L2. You have the benefit of hindsight, not foresight. It's easy that way.

I don't want this post to come across as an overwhelming sense of over-importance - on the contrary, despite many flaws, I'd like to think one of my better traits is my ability to be open-minded and admit when I'm wrong. For that reason, I wanted to start this thread. I know many on here are well aware that I was anti-JB, and I fell out with many posters on here in the darkest (earlier) parts of the season. In fairness, when I was at my most vocal, the side were in the doldrums to say the least - even JB had verbally tendered his resignation; that's how bad it had got. At that point, I genuinely thought that it would be impossible for him to turn it round (at all! Let alone as spectacularly as he has). So not only were we not winning games, given I felt he let us down at the end of last season, and coupled with the two court cases, I genuinely believed it was madness to keep going. Yet here we are. First and foremost, JB has not been found guilty of either case - okay he could yet be found guilty of one of them, but that looks increasingly unlikely. Either way, the facts are that he hasn't - and that's huge for me. If he had have been there's no way I'd have ever come round. Secondly, Joey has gone on to prove - beyond any doubt whatsoever - that he is a man of his word: 1) We did get promoted 2) He has given us a team to be proud of, who deserve to wear the shirt On top of this, his recruitment has been astonishing. The "Joey Barton effect" has without doubt helped us to acquire talent we would previously have had no chance of getting (none more so than Billy). I've always believed man-management and motivation are THE two biggest skills any successful manager has in their locker (and that applies to any job) and Joey clearly has it in spades. The first time I truly got a glimpse/started to believe was the Swindon comeback - we dipped again slightly after and I feared another false dawn, but it was actually a taster for what was yet to come. For a long time I said that Joey getting us back to L1 would only "undo taking us down". I realise now there really were some terrible people (I won't use the word professionals) at this club previously and Joey has weeded them out and put us on the best standing we've been since the back-to-back promotion days of DC IMO. Therefore - and I would never have ever imagined saying this - but I believe he's already not only undone relegation (and I know even that is perhaps harsh) but, regardless, he has gone beyond that; he's bought life back to this football club; he's bought joy; and above all else he's bought pride. So to everyone who backed him - fair fc uking play to you. I've learnt a valuable lesson through this that no matter how unlikely something looks, it's never impossible if you keep working at it. I'm sorry to all those I argued with during the darkest days and I've never been happier to have been proven wrong. Joey; thank you so much for what you've done. I honestly have rarely felt so excited about the future of my football club (not hard I know! ). So please, stay out of trouble (!!) and just keep doing what you're doing. You won't catch me calling for your head next season - you have my full 100% belief in you now. UP THE FC UKING GAS!!!!! I was pro Barton when he was appointed as based on his record at Fleetwood and the lack of other options available, I thought he was our best chance of staying up.
I was still pro Barton after relegation as I thought he deserved the chance to bring in his own players before we could properly judge whether he was the right man for the job.
However, even I was losing faith in October / November after a poor start left us struggling towards the bottom of L2. At that point I'd have probably taken his offer to walk away.
Thankfully Wael kept the faith and JB proved the doubters wrong. Surely most Rovers fans must now accept JB has proved to be an excellent manager and has delivered on his promises.
I think we're all now optimistic and excited to see how far he can take us. UTG!

There was a fair number of us who thought for the love of God why have we appointed him. Then we got relegated and those opionions stayed with us. Then, results were dire but there were glimpses of a squad coming together, and then results started to come in, home and away and those thoughts changed to "hey, this is starting to look pretty good", and the more we watched, the more we saw what "give this squad time" meant. The rest is history.

Ummm Let's see over the course of a whole season. Barton certainly stopped the rot and our performances were back to L2 average by last Christmas. It was the signing of E Anderson that changed the character of the team, his ability and performance instilling belief amongst the other players. Barton most certainly harnessed that and got us promoted. Ignoring his personal life and history this next season will be fascinating. Back to where we were when he joined us, there will be huge holes in the squad if all the loanees do not return and other key squad players leave. How we go next season will be determined by the recruitment over the next 2 months or so. This is another test for Barton, let's see how he does. Personally I am not going to ignore the downsides based upon half a season and a bit of luck with a loan player. But, obviously, I hope he does really well. We shall see.

I do not recall seeing a League Two side capable of the sort on one touch football Rovers have been playing since Christmas. That is certainly not down to a single loan player and to suggest so is a great disservice to the rest of the squad even if you discount the Manager's role in how we play.

The fact of the matter is the team's performances improved dramatically after Christmas. Which coincided with E Anderson's arrival. Now of course it takes a team effort and I am no expert in tactics and / or formations to be able to pin point exactly why the team improved so much. But I do believe that the great performances can be driven by exceptional talent of one or two players. Belief and confidence can be transformed. Just remember what happened in 99/2000 when Geoff Dunford refused to sanction the direct replacement of a key, injured, midfielder. A team that contained Jason Roberts and Jamie Cureton gave up. Holloway was powerless. Like I said, let's see how Barton performs on in the transfer / loan market that's upon us. How that translates into our performances next season, we shall see. Personally I hope Barton does really well and we make the championship.

I don’t recall seeing a rovers team playing that good football full stop. Our previous decent teams have relied heavily on decent forward partnerships and prolific goalscorers. 90 - white Saunders boris 95 - Stewart Taylor 96 - hayles beadle 99 - roberts cureton 07 - lambert Walker 15 - Taylor Harrison Bodin Might be slightly out with the years there but you see my point. This year has seen a rovers side promoted playing outstanding football across the park and not relying on strikers to get us out the mire.

Great, JB signs a player but gets no real credit for the signing just a suggestion that he got lucky! Using that POV you could say he also got lucky that Bellshaw turned out to he a very good goalie, Taylor and Connolly good defenders and Evans a decent midfielder and it was clearly a complete fluke Collins scored goals!
Personally I've no worries that JB will put together a decent L1 squad assuming Wael continues to back him with a decent playing budget.

Were you at Oxford that season when we beat them 5-0 at theirs? Roberts was injured and Ellington stood in. The most complete team performance I have witnessed. Add in we were pushing for promotion into what was to become the Championship. Not recovering from relegation under the same manager into L2. It's all about opinions, I guess.
