I don't want this post to come across as an overwhelming sense of over-importance - on the contrary, despite many flaws, I'd like to think one of my better traits is my ability to be open-minded and admit when I'm wrong. For that reason, I wanted to start this thread. I know many on here are well aware that I was anti-JB, and I fell out with many posters on here in the darkest (earlier) parts of the season. In fairness, when I was at my most vocal, the side were in the doldrums to say the least - even JB had verbally tendered his resignation; that's how bad it had got. At that point, I genuinely thought that it would be impossible for him to turn it round (at all! Let alone as spectacularly as he has). So not only were we not winning games, given I felt he let us down at the end of last season, and coupled with the two court cases, I genuinely believed it was madness to keep going. Yet here we are. First and foremost, JB has not been found guilty of either case - okay he could yet be found guilty of one of them, but that looks increasingly unlikely. Either way, the facts are that he hasn't - and that's huge for me. If he had have been there's no way I'd have ever come round. Secondly, Joey has gone on to prove - beyond any doubt whatsoever - that he is a man of his word: 1) We did get promoted 2) He has given us a team to be proud of, who deserve to wear the shirt On top of this, his recruitment has been astonishing. The "Joey Barton effect" has without doubt helped us to acquire talent we would previously have had no chance of getting (none more so than Billy). I've always believed man-management and motivation are THE two biggest skills any successful manager has in their locker (and that applies to any job) and Joey clearly has it in spades. The first time I truly got a glimpse/started to believe was the Swindon comeback - we dipped again slightly after and I feared another false dawn, but it was actually a taster for what was yet to come. For a long time I said that Joey getting us back to L1 would only "undo taking us down". I realise now there really were some terrible people (I won't use the word professionals) at this club previously and Joey has weeded them out and put us on the best standing we've been since the back-to-back promotion days of DC IMO. Therefore - and I would never have ever imagined saying this - but I believe he's already not only undone relegation (and I know even that is perhaps harsh) but, regardless, he has gone beyond that; he's bought life back to this football club; he's bought joy; and above all else he's bought pride. So to everyone who backed him - fair fc uking play to you. I've learnt a valuable lesson through this that no matter how unlikely something looks, it's never impossible if you keep working at it. I'm sorry to all those I argued with during the darkest days and I've never been happier to have been proven wrong. Joey; thank you so much for what you've done. I honestly have rarely felt so excited about the future of my football club (not hard I know! ). So please, stay out of trouble (!!) and just keep doing what you're doing. You won't catch me calling for your head next season - you have my full 100% belief in you now. UP THE FC UKING GAS!!!!! Great post roverdrive I think at certain points during the early part of the season despite being a fan of the Barton appointment I began to question his tenure. Il hold my hands up I wanted him gone and I’ve never been more wrong. Total respect to the 2 rich,s on here who continued to back him whilst getting pelters from the majority.

Top man Rover Drive! think all of us had doubts at one point. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate many had doubts at some point - I think I felt it worthy of an apology from my end though purely because of the extent of how vociferous I was; I think any sane person had doubts at some point, but few got as angry and as argumentative as I did - and don't get me wrong, I believe in all those cases it took two to tango BUT, the point is - they were the ones proven to be correct; and for that I apologise. Here's to much brighter days ahead!!! COME ON YOU BLUE BOYS!

Exiting times and can't wait to hear the retained list/new signings etc. Joey tell em' to replace the South Tent with a proper stand for now as a new ground must still be several years away.We are on the up so they might listen to you.I love your passion and positivity so get the new ground sorted please and we will build a statue!!
Joey as a complete package has put us on the map.His fervour and passion for me override anything else.Think he should be judged on his football alone as despite his obvious flaws he has many positive attributes.
Big Jock.You ok mate?

I agree 100%. I created a rare thread for me ("Huge Congratulations To Joey Barton") for the same reason. I wanted him sacked and was pleased to have been proved wrong.
All we all want is for Bristol Rovers to be successful, and I thoroughly enjoyed this season!
Looking forward to our return to League One. We are back with a bang, and visitors to The Mem will notice a huge change in attitude since we were last there...

As many of you know I detest JB and outside of his footballing life I still do. However I do recognise that after his abysmal start he has got the team playing some of the best football I have seen at the Mem. It was stated that one person isn't bigger than Bristol Rovers and managers come and go so I should just ignore my feelings and support the team. They are right of course. I was one of the many to scoff at his ridiculous pledge that we would definitely get promoted this season. I may have been a bit hasty there!! I'm still not comfortable with him being our manager and representing the voice of the club (his early interviews were a bit of a car crash) but maybe over time he has learned to think before engaging mouth. A part of me hopes that Burnley do want him and he goes but as mentioned the club is more important and getting a stronghold in Div 1 is imperative - which it seems he is capable of making happen. All of this speculation is pointless if he is found guilty at his forthcoming trial but no point worrying about that until it is over. Bottom line is that I can't stand the bloke but he is good for Rovers and that takes precedence over my personal feelings.

If more people had foresight, we wouldn't need hindsight.
Thanks for this Roverdrive, it takes a lot to admit we're wrong, so full credit to you.

All water under the bridge now roverdrive, no need for anyone to apologise after the way it ended. Let's all look forward to hopefully another great season ahead and after the events of the one just past, exciting times ahead. Being an old boy I don't want to wish time away, but would love the season to start next week! UTG!

Rover drive, it’s a forum, we all have opinions. No need to apologise for them. Things change it’s football. If we all worried about hindsight it would be a boring place because we’d never say anything because we’d be so careful about being wrong. We need opinions. I bet you’ve put in words what many are thinking and you had the b**** to say sorry. 👍 We’re now back in League 1 and that’s what matters football wise.
UTG!
