deep down we all though Wheelo could go especially at 38 now. The biggest shock is surely Nolan, I have no ideal why we signed him

Happy with all those going even Whelan who I think was excellent when called on but he will be another year older and we’re back in a higher division. Excited to see who we bring in as looks like there will be a fair few signings needed .

It’s usually stated tho right? Yes, good point. And I guess if Rodman isn’t on the released list they may have offered him something. Maybe all will become clearer with JB being on Having a Gas tonight. Yeah it’s most definitely worth listening in!

Some of these getting released could imply a pretty ambitious summer when it comes to number of signings. Speaking of specifically Hargraves, Harries, Martinez, Nolan, Tomlinson, Pitman, Clarke and Whelan. These are mostly backups etc. So would imply many more to add!

Rodman been offered a new deal then or did he have another year? Rodman and Joey seem to have a good relationship and Rodman has a business masters degree and studying something else currently I believe?

I'd be happy with that, but given his age and recent injury record I'd be surprised if he was part of the playing squad; particularly now we're back in L1.

Returned to Parent Club: Elliot Anderson, James Connolly, Sion Spence, Connor Taylor, Luke Thomas. Released: Junior Brown, Leon Clarke, Cameron Hargreaves, Cian Harries, Ollie Hulbert, Ben Liddle, Pablo Martinez, Tom Mehew, Jon Nolan, Brett Pitman, Kieran Phillips, Lucas Tomlinson, Glenn Whelan. I thought we may have kept Whelan as he was solid in performance and seemed to be a steadying influence. It would seems JB has been planning, we shall see

I'll admit I haven't seen much of any of the younger players but slightly surprised to see virtually the whole development squad (if we still have such a thing) released. Granted going up means they are less likely to break through but still thought there might have been 1 or 2 kept on. As others have said no real surprises in the senior players apart from Whelan, hopefully no news is good news on the likes of Evans & Nicholson. Could be an exciting summer ahead UTG

Purely playing I wouldn't keep him but playing plus another role at the club I would. He's a good player when fit, I think his injury record has been a bit unfortunate.

Would have liked Wheelo to stay as a player coach, but probably wants something nearer home. Thanks Glenn. what a last game! Shame we seem to not be bring more youngsters through, hopefully that improves. Wonder if Rodders and Anssi are considering coaching roles? Cant believe we'd offer either the wage theyd need to stay as a player?
Cant wait for the extensions, new signings and returnees now!

No mention of new deals for Nicholson, Evans and Trevor Clarke? The fact they’re not on the released list implies they’ve all been offered a new contract. You’d hope so.

I always want players who come through the ranks to succeed, however I have not been hearing rave reviews about those being released from their loans at other clubs, many of whom are at National League North/South. It is a big jump from the 6th tier to league 2, let alone now we are back in league 1.
Wish them all well and hope they 'mature' late and still manage a career in football and get the chance to prove the decision to release them is wrong. But not at our expense!

Very, very surprised Glenn Whelan has been let go Could have easily done a job and then some in league 1. Will find it difficult to find someone who has his ability.

Very, very surprised Glenn Whelan has been let go Or is it that he has asked to go for geographical / family reasons? Might be more him than the club I guess. UTG!

No real surprises. Mostly development players and playing a division up makes their job to break through harder when it’s already difficult and stacked against the odds.
Whelo is more likely released at his own choice maybe?
No doubt the next to follow will be those who don’t agree terms.
Just hope the vast majority of incoming are here when pre season starts

I’m sure it will be quality over quantity incoming - think we’re only allowed 21 player over the age of 20 next season but the playing budget will have increased significantly under EFL rules from last season. Hopefully we’ve some very good players coming in (on paper). Hopefully JB will try and offload Westbrooke before the season starts.
