Yes we probably could do with a CH but I think some are using last night as proof of that when the CHs last night coped ok with what Barnsley did and won most aerial battles. The goals came from their players being given too much space in midfield and their players being allowed to run at us. Looks like a case of fitting a 0-3 loss into what we were saying about weaknesses at CH. it may be the case that we are weak there but that wasn’t what caused the result last night. Perhaps we will see Gibson partnering Connolly on Saturday. We really need to give the current CHs a chance to show what they can do, including Alfie who hasn’t really had a chance for sometime. UTG! Hoole wasn't tight enough to his man for the first goal and there were several times I was questioning his positional sense. In the FGR game he lost his man several times and on one occasion when they should have scored Belly ended up giving him a bollocking. Another addition at centre half is vital and I'm sure the manager is working to address that.

I don't understand why Hoole has suddenly been moved to CB this season? He looked really good at RB last season. I would like to know more details as to why we think CB is his position going forward? I honestly believe JB & the club thought we had a good chance of getting Connor Taylor back for another season, but when it didn’t happen it left us short, coupled sadly with the news of Nick Anderton & Alfie Kilgour’s fitness problems, it meant Hoole was our best option of filling that position. Hopefully once he’s up to speed the signing of Lewis Gibson from Everton should give us more options across the back line. Yeah nick would have been chosen there over Hoole.. In many ways we’ve lost two centre backs since the end of last season. Hopefully Nick will make a good recovery.

Pirate, I said a CH is probably needed but I presume Gibson was signed with that in mind, and another may be needed. I’m sure JB is going to be very busy in the next 10 days or so. We need a replacement for Sam N, Luke T and Elliot A even more because to have lost 3 very good attacking players without suitable replacements is more worrying. Was the first goal Hoole? I wasn’t sure. But last night was just a disaster yes the CHs take their share of the blame but it wasn’t just them. (And I know you’re not saying that.)
UTG!

No grant on the squad.was he dropped or injured Same situation as last season. Barton said he can’t play Saturday Tuesday and they have to treat him carefully to manage his load. 🤷

From hero to zero in just 1 match? I think he was only subbed off as JB wanted to play with 3 at the back?

Because Grant is obviously returning from injury and they are sensibly managing his workload.

Don’t think we need to deviate too far from the system we have had joy with Stick with 4-2-3-1 Belly Hoole Connelly Gibson Flash Finley Rossiter Saunders Evo Anderson Collins Go back to Collins up top, just like the good old days!! Hit Pompey with pace and flair. Marquis for me slows us down and we don’t look the same threat. UTG

When was the last time Grant played twice in a week, for at least most of last season he seemed to be carrying injuries, now this week he's managed a total of 10 minutes of football before needing a rest.

I guess we will see on Saturday He should theoretically be in contention for at least the bench If missing again it’s another worry. He’s no doubt a talented footballer but his appearances for us are woefully low UTG

Never been convinced by Saunders as a starter and think he’s better suited to a role as an impact sub. Marquis needs to be given more time, the players behind him are not performing and I’ll reserve judgement until he’s played more games and getting better service.

Have to play Marquis for the ‘striker returning to former club to prove a point’ affect.

Did JB do a post match interview? If yes, could someone publish a link please. Unable to locate it on YouTube or Twitter. Cheers.

Let’s also remaining grounded to the fact that Barnsley were also in the champ playoffs only 2 season ago. On wards and up wards. These players under Barton have shown in the past they often bounce back from adversity. 3 points Saturday! But they lost 3-0 at home yesterday. I don't like the idea of normalising 3-0 defeats. The fact they were in the champ play offs not long ago just shows how much they have dropped in a short period. Let's not forget they had Luke Thomas playing, a player who couldn't get in our team for most of last season. Hopefully with a few more additions we'll look a lot stronger.

We're also above Barnsley in the table. As we are with Forest Green too. All about results over the whole season, not individual games against certain teams.
