Well that translation got lost then! I grew up near Royate Hill by Eastville Park. Back then it was not uncommon to find Rovers training in Eastville Park. I recall school holidays when that happened and there would be crowds of kids watching. I was there on occasions where Bobby Campbell would wind up the session, send the players on a run back to the stadium then stay behind with balls and cones and run a session for all the kids. After the session he would say, "right then, who's coming to cheer on the lads at Saturday's match". Just being able to go to matches as a kid without needing transport or adults to take you is significant. Having the stadium in the middle of the community is massive. A football club must be the heartbeat of the community, it must serve the community and then teh community will serve the club in return. Do you need any further translation? Since when did any Rovers club serve the community, probably before they sold out to the stadium company 1955? Except Rovers sold Eastville to the Bristol Greyhound Company in 1940.

Aren't they based at Lockleaze Sports Centre as they don't seem to hold many events at the Mem apart from Hallowean/Xams parties etc, even the Academy has no connections to the Mem or The Quarters, the latter doing seemingly nothing for it's local community. Perhaps JB, assuming he intends staying in the medium term, could convince Wael that re-developing the Mem and keeping it a fortress is the way to go? I wonder what Wael (& his close family?) think about returning to watch games at the Mem after spending the last few weeks watching games in fantastic stadiums, it must be a bit sole destroying for him!

What puzzles me is why Gorringe came here . He had a good gig ( I assume ) at premiership Brighton as head of sales or some title like that and left to come to little old Rovers . What prospect did he see ? Why leave a prem club for us ? Can’t be just about wages even if we did pay him more ( I doubt it) . I know he’s subsequently got an unforeseen promotion but he must have envisioned something happening here ? That's pretty easy. Bit of back stabbing here, a little there and before you know it you are CEO.

Now that everything seems quiet on all fronts stadium/redevelopment wise you can only hope JB doesn't become impatient and feel he's been sold a dud. The alternative could.be that JB thinks actually there is potential in this City for a proper football club. He may well at some point decide to take matters into his own hands. He'll realise that he's unlikely to get a top job in the UK with his background and fancy being head honcho somewhere. I'm sure with his connections it wouldn't be beyond him to put a consortium together to take the club to the next level.

Not sure it has been anything but quiet on the stadium front since JB was appointed? Although it does all seem to have gone quiet regarding The Quarters "rebuild".

That’s not an example of clubs further down the pyramid. There are lots of good things that premier league clubs do for the community as well of course. Brentford being one of many.

I suggest you do some research or try speaking with Adam Tutton the Community Trust CEO who is a top bloke and works tirelessly. Maybe even visit their office at The Mem. Btw I was involved with a 12 week project that the Community Trust ran - it was at The Mem. www.bristolroverscommunity.org.uk/

My opinion has never changed A football club needs to be in the community and be the heartbeat of that community and not banished to some trading estate on the outskirts. I believe we have a very good location. Develop the Mem. translated : The Mem is on my doorstep and I’d rather like to keep it that way That's the attitude. If more people had that attitude, we would have had a stadium in Kingswood. Shame on those who took the "Not in my back yard" attitude.
