Just going in to the bookies to lay two bets ..... Her Majesty to stand down this year and Luke James to sign for Rovers . I hope you added dc to leave to that bet, cos if luke james is the best we can afford he won't be here.

I know I am the eternal optimist but how much of a serious reasonable chance did Luke James have with us last season? How many consecutive games did he start and stay on the pitch for the majority of the match? And also in a situation where he could grow with the squad in a non pressurised situation? (e.g. At the start of the season when the pressure is less) I remember at least 2 of our prolific strikers of past going 10 and 16 games starting and staying on the pitch for at least 70mins not scoring and both ended up top scorers for us in seasons. Also a number of strikers in the game have moved clubs, had a crap first season but then gone on to be prolific the following.... A lot of LJs game is really positive - it's just his goal return that has been poor this season. (Can't comment on previous as for other clubs a lot of appearances were as sub or out of position on the wing)..... Dont get me wrong, I don't think he's a shoe in first choice striker but I do believe he'd be a good squad striker who if played alongside the right complimentary partner would score goals..... Tin hat on!..... Mate it's been 30 odd appearances and his only shot on target I can remember was a missed pen . If I played for rovers I would run my nuts off and do f**k all but nobody wants to sign me this summer. Everyone's forgetting the penalty shoot-off goal in the checkatrade (or whatever it's called) against Yeovil.

I don't believe he'll get what he thinks he needs from the board. If he did, he wouldn't keep publically asking for it.

I've got to be honest I'm sick of hearing about Luke James, what's this the 2nd or even 3rd thread about a bloke who has never scored a goal for us? He's had plenty of chances and I'm afraid he's just not good enough, I just pray we don't sign him next year as there has to be a better options out there! I wish him no malice, I feel a conference league club would have to be his next step then who knows he may rise back up again. Looks like Hartlepool are going down Luke, get your CV over to Jeff Stelling ASAP.

This is one of those threads that gets resurrected in twelve months after our 30 goal striker sought after by a host of Clubs has fired us to the Championship !! ... and the name of that Striker is ?......
I don't believe it either but dreaming is still allowed for the moment anyway !!

As he didn't score a single goal this season we might be able to sign him on very low wages. I can't imagine clubs will be queueing up for his signature with his goal record over the past couple of years.
He's only 22 and if we could get him on the cheap I wouldn't be against him being one of our 5 striking options. DC said he wants to sign 2 or 3 strikers and if he manages to bring in a couple of top forwards I'd be happy for James to be 5th choice on a very low wage.
He seems to get on well with the rest of the squad and has an excellenrt work ethic. Who knows, if he manages to get a goal or 2 early next season he might surprise us all and go on to get double figures. Confidence can play a big part.

The lad has ability you just have to look at his early goals for Hartlepool. Why he is as goal-shy as he is though is a total mystery.
I don't think he will be as cheap as everyone thinks either in terms of wages as Peterborough bought him for £600k(?) and with a decent transfer fee generally comes a decent wage.
If he goes on to someone else and scores shedloads then so be it, that's football and for his sake I hope he does, but he has had enough chances to show us what he can do and has failed so far, as he has with Bradford and Peterborough.

Won't he be as cheap as somebody is prepared to pay him now, not what he was paid by P'boro, as I can only see Div 2 teams at best offering him a contract this summer. Perhaps if he's firing goals in during train without any pressures of expectations then he's worth a punt if he only wants low wages.
