We have different views mate and that's fine. If he was that we'll regarded by those that count, he wouldn't have left. Also if that left side was so effective, why is DC looking at proper wingers instead of a like for like? Seems it's just me on here that considers our opposition for the majority of last season. Our players were mainly lg standard, full time pros. We should have good stats and done well, which we did. That imo over values our players because they were mismatched most of the time. Our left side would get absolutely tortured against better opponents because AM offers such little threat going forwards that a RW could just cheat all game! Not only that but LB is average too. IMO. All well and good against Welling and Alfreton though. How can an England C international be only average? You're either a WUM or just bitter and twisted about the club with your constant negative posts. Do you actually ever post anything positive about the team? Simon was one of the biggest tinters on the forum prior to relegation. He is a wum though.

Yet still played every (or near enough every?) game for us last season in a promotion winning side? Not bad. I don't agree that he went missing for long periods and couldn't shoot. I also don't see how him being slow and not being able to beat a player is a bad thing, as teams need to be balanced and have a mixture to be successful. The blend worked with him in the side and his partnership down the left with Brown was a key part in our success. If Monkhouse was a marauding out-and-out winger then that partnership would have been very different, and perhaps not as effective. Plus, if he had pace and could beat a man then he'd be in League One or the Championship I reckon. No winger will score 10 goals for us next season - called it. We have different views mate and that's fine. If he was that we'll regarded by those that count, he wouldn't have left. Also if that left side was so effective, why is DC looking at proper wingers instead of a like for like? Seems it's just me on here that considers our opposition for the majority of last season. All well and good against Welling and Alfreton though. I know it's fine, we're just having a discussion about a player aren't we? There are very few like for like players around is probably one of the reasons. There are far more pacey, black wingers in the lower leagues than there are Monkhouse-style wide players. I don't agree that our left side would get tortured against better opposition or that AM offers "such little threat" going forwards, but there's no way to prove it so we'll agree to disagree. All I will say is that very few teams play two out-and-out touchline hugging wingers these days (not in a 4-4-2, anyway). Most will play with a more conservative wide player like Monkhouse to provide some balance to the team.

To be fair, I don't often agree with Gashead79's opinions, but I'm kind of with him on Lee Brown. He isn't the top footballer he is often made out to be by some on here. People, understandably, think highly of him given the loyalty he showed after our relegation last year, but as a player he isn't all that - he often bottles 50/50s and shirks a tackle if he can, which isn't good for a player whose primary focus should be on defending. Me not thinking the world of him doesn't mean I dislike the guy, though; he's a really nice bloke and I do think he's a steady left back. Unlike most modern footballers he has shown commitment to the club and is a part of a strong back four unit, which shouldn't be underestimated, but I don't think he's the outstanding full back many believe him to be. He's fantastic going forward though, has a great delivery and half decent from a dead ball situation too. Solid if not spectacular at the back - if he was much better he'd be in the championship. He's been part of a fantastic back 4 for 2 seasons now and yes, his loyalty to us last season also helps!

Correct of course. he's only had 8 games as FL manager. But the absence of evidence at that level isn't the evidence of absence. So, what does a non-lge manager do, on a day-to-day basis at a Full-time club? [DC has 3 promotions in 4 seasons, all with FT clubs] Look for players? Check Trial, loan and evaluate players? Check Sign players? Check Juggle / balance budgets? Check Manage players on a day-to-day? Check Try to help / manage any problems / gripes they have? Check Decide tactics? Check Take charge on match day? Check Research the opposition? Check Motivation / psychology? Check Make decisions on players when out of contract? Check Manage fitness regimes and physios? Check Deal with your Board of Directors? Check Deal with the press? Check Manage a relationship with your fans? Check Liaise with agents? Check Deal with pressure? Check Manage injuries, suspensions, loss of form, etc? Check Manage your own back room staff? Check Set an ethos for your work? Check How different is any of that to managing 1 lge higher? He's had promotions at Level 5, 6 & 7. I take that as a positive. You seem to take it as a negative. Football is all about opinions you have yours I have mine,we can all make lists of plus and minus at the end of the day they mean diddly squat, you can make a case either way and at this moment in time I am undecided as to whether he will succeed or not,its just that I am not overly impressed with the going back to his old clubs players, rather than expand his horizons I can never understand how any Gashead can say they are not overly impressed by DC as a manager when in recent years we've had to suffer PT(w/o LL) / DP/PB/MM/JW, whilst in the context of FL managers generally he may not have proved himself, he's certainly impressed me compared to the clowns who've gone before him. Although this season maybe difficult if our BoD don't give him a decent budget.

Had to Google England C just to make sure. As I thought, it's the non league set-up. Jeez. So yeah, fair play to him, but come on! Some of those lads are from conf north and south ffs. Maybe Buckle was right? So you are WUM as any regular fan past season wouldn't have to Google England C, if you didn't watch Rovers regularly how can you comment on the players ability. LB clearly was a above average in Conference football last season and that was the standard he had to play at, but the previous season he was part of a decent league team defence.

What do you call regularly btw? I've watched Rovers pretty steadily since 87.

Parkes is a bit too comfortable on the ball at times for my liking. I think that is a part of his game which has really improved and made him a better player. Your comment suggests that his play causes problems but I have been racking my brain trying to think of a single example when Parkes has lost the ball and cost us a goal. I accept that I many have forgotten something but perhaps you will explain why you feel that way

I accept that I many have forgotten something but perhaps you will explain why you feel that way I quite like Parkes. I also like CBs that can play a bit, which he can. There are times though that rather than play it early or just get rid, he feels the need to do a cruyff turn first or push it past an oncoming striker. Neither he or Macca are blessed with pace. Macca is often level, which is fine, so I just wish he would save those tricks for when he is I'm advanced areas rather than last man. It's not worth it and while some fans may enjoy the showboating, it is a managers dread which will turn to tears at some stage.

Myrie Williams is an interesting one. He did well at Port Vale, with 22 goals in 88 starts (10 league 1 goals in 2013/14 when in same team as Lines), then suffered from a change of manager shortly after joining Scunthorpe, where he was frozen out, and initially did ok at Tranmere before their nightmare at the end of the season. Tranmere fans are not complimentary but Vale fans on the whole have good things to say. If his head is right then he could do ok for us. His attitude when the chips are down is the worry, but when the momentum at a football club turns so badly against, like it did for Tranmere last season and us the season before, it is very hard to shine. I am not convinced one way or the other with him. Here are the fans' views (love the Vale thread title!) www.onevalefan.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?81278-JMW-Would-you-welcome-him-backm.thefootballnetwork.net/boards/read/s383.htm?730,15270565

Like a lot of players. If things are going well they can enjoy the game and blossom. If things are not so rosy, the pressure builds from the fans and it can have a real negative impact on their game and attitude to those paying their wages.

I'd say this applies to wingers more than other positions too. Wingers need freedom to try to beat their full back - they need the confidence that even if they fail the first time, they'll leave them on their asses the second. If you have a crowd that are nervous/fearful of relegation etc, there's no way they'll be given the time to get it right.

"I want to thank Jennison for his efforts while he has been at the club. He has been terrific. At times he has been unplayable and at other times he has let himself down slightly, but that is the life of a winger... This is not having a go at Jennison, but I don't see Scunthorpe as a progression in his career. I have to say I think that move is purely a money one."

No harm in a trial at all, but Monkhouse has more quality in his little toe than Myrie-Williams and Ajala put together IMO. Pace and tricks isn't everything. Oh? Stats portray similar returns, JMW is 7 years younger, has played at a higher standard and isn't on the radar of non league clubs. The fascination with Monkhouse is strange imo. He was part of a good side but for me wasn't anything special. If he was so good why is he plying his trade in the conference while the trialists are tempting league teams? You need to watch some of the videos from last season, Monkhouse was a leading player in the team, which you get to see from high up, rather than the terrace

Which is a bit... meh. i cant say that I blame him as he could face a keen young kid wanting to over-impress in the friendly and then he has an injury that effectively leaves him unemployed. Its only a warm up match of no real consequence and there is more than enough evidence that he knows the game from his past experience and a friendly against Salisbury 2 weeks into training is not going to show that he is up to League 2 footie. The purpose of a trial is for DC to get to know how he would fit in with the lads and to overall test his attitude - and I think that 2 weeks training with him should prove that .

Surely he could also get injured in training? Although you do wonder why any player risks a trial of any type where they could pick up an injury.

Not all of them but I didn't need to search goolge to find out LB etc played for England last season with other Conference players To suggest AM was poor, LB average last season for a regular Rovers fan is a bit odd given what we've had to put up with on the pitch since Lambert left.
