I agree that DC needs more seasons as manager to show if he can sustain success and at a higher level, but I am happy with him so far and won't hold the relegation season against him. As for getting players from his old club, this isn't anything new. How many Rovers players did Francis sign for QPR and how many QPR players did we sign in return? It seems poor as we are not used to non league teams. Padstow - would you feel the same if it were L2 to L1 and not from the Conference? Werent QPR at least 1 division above us when GF signed the players rather than 2 divisions below What's the point of this? It's a results business and Clarke won us promotion last season. Anyone would think we just suffered another relegation. We strengthened our squad in the second half of last season, bringing in proven quality in Lines and Easter (did these two play for Salisbury?) and have just added Montano, who has never played for or with Clarke before. More additions to come. One suspects that whatever Clarke does, some will never be satisfied.

Not good enough for DC though this year. At least the gaffer wants to improve us eh? DC apparently offered Monkey 2 deals but he choose to move back north to Grimsby, not sure that implies DC didn't want just he couldn't offer him enough to tempt him back for another season. If you are going to keep posting negative stuff at least get your facts right!

Sweeping statement, they may well be prepared to work, could be their only chance to break into the league and I would be astonished if they didn't.As for the proud bit,not necessarily proud to be at Rovers more likely proud of themselves for getting a contract, just a subtle difference. That doesn't mean they will be good enough for the level they are now going to be playing at,only time will tell, whereas the "journeymen" who are castigated widely on the Rovers forums arte normally players who have plied their trade at a higher level and have proved they can do it.Just because a player is nearing the end of his career does not mean he is just here for a last pay day and an easy ride. Most professionals I know are proud they can still play the game and want to play as long as they can,so if they have that attitude they will soon be found out and it will go around the grapevine very quickly.I wish I could still play at the level I did in my 20s but no chance,if I could I would give it my all the same as most players. Sinclair looks pretty proud to be a Rovers player to me, as far as journeymen the likes of Virgo, Kenneth, Bevan, Blizzard & JJOT didn't give the impression they were proud to play, they just seemed happy to pick up a pay cheque/pay off. I'd take DC's signings so far over any of those players.

If you are going to keep posting negative stuff at least get your facts right! I moved on long ago but people keep taking swipes on what is only afterall, my opinion of a player. I didn't mention any facts, just the observation. You can't counter that with 'apparently' and 'not sure' because that means you don't know any facts either. What we know is that Monky has gone and if DC had wanted him, he would and surely could have offered him enough to keep him. He has gone and we are looking at 2 replacements that are completely different types of player to the bloke that was so successful with us. Time to move on from the AM debate or what?? Oh, and I'm a positive Rovers fan btw.

Okay so I am bumping an old thread but it looks like we have another couple of trialists in at the moment.
James McNamara said Jake Sinclair and Darryl Flahaven played for us today in a reserve fixture.

I think the money offered to Monkhouse was ok. The problem was no doubt over the length of the contract. Monkhouse is 34 and he probably wanted at least a two-year deal, and DC probably wasn't prepared to offer him that at his age. Their is no doubt that DC wanted him, but not at any price. For once we should give our manager a pat on the back for doing the right thing.

Sinclair is it a stipulation that if your name is Sinclair and you sign for Rovers you cannot be over 5ft8

I can't remember the exact words, but when he signed originally, I'm sure he said something along the lines of "I'm here to help DC out and get Rovers promoted, even though it will be difficult travelling away from my family in the north". Unless the financial offer was much bigger, I suspect we were never going to hold on to AM for much longer. Our loss and Grimsby's gain.

Interesting to see a third unnamed trialist playing for us today. Anyone know who he is?

Jake Sinclair is Scott's brother for anyone who cares.

Thinking about the practicalities of Monkey & Dawson signing for us rather than club's closer to home, I assume both would have to rent places or stay in hotels if they signed for us rather than simply commute to their present clubs? What's that costs wise to a player or the club, £250 extra a week or £1,000 a month which is over £10,000 extra a year?
