Rumours we have agreed a fee for Shrewsbury winger Liam Lawrence.
Not sure how to put it up here, but a sports journalist tweeted it and James McNamara re tweeted it.

He's mid thirties isn't he? Why would we pay a fee for someone that age?

As far as I'm aware he'd be a good signing, 34 now so seemingly a Monkhouse-type winger, rather than a 'beat the full-back' winger.
Bit confused as to why Shrewsbury want rid, he's played quite a few games this season, is captain and was instrumental in winning promotion last year.

Watched him for Stoke City.Shrews lost 7-1 Sat.Seems they are having a bit of a clear out.Suspect we'll be sending one or two out on loan.

That's a naughty signing. Massive statement of intent that.

Apparently plays in a central role now. Captained Shrewsbury last year, helping to get them promoted from this league.

BRISTOL ROVERS: Darrell Clarke closing in on first signing of January transfer windowBy JamesMcNamara | Posted: January 06, 2016 Bristol Rovers are set to make their first signing of the January transfer window on Thursday, the Post understands. Darrell Clarke is believed to have been in negotiations with an "experienced" player over the last 72 hours and that a deal was"almost 90 percent done" late on Wednesday afternoon. The Post understands that the player in question is not Cambridge United striker Rory Gaffney and Clarke was this afternoon being linked with a move for Shrewsbury Town midfielder Liam Lawrence, who is a former Mansfield United team-mate of the Bristol Rovers manager. Rovers have yet to officially confirm who their target is but a deal is expected to be finalised before they face Barnet at the Hive on Saturday and could be announced as early as Thursday afternoon. Rovers have signalled their desire to sign Gaffney on a permanent deal and had verbally agreed in principle a deal to sign him on a free transfer and to take over his contract. Cambridge, however, performed a U-turn and decided that Rovers should stump up a fee for a player who scored five goals in seven games but the Post has been told there hasn't been any progress made following further talks. I'll take Lawrence & Gaffney....
The experience Lawrence can bring could be a tremendous boost for any promotion intentions. I am excited about this signing on a personal level.

I remember Liam Lawrence and Disley tearing us to shreds for Mansfield in what I still reckon was the best away performance from a side I've seen at The Mem
Good signing, a player with loads of experience, who's played at a higher level and with good ability.
Let's hope for a few more

Looks like they might have money problems. Also there's a rumour on their forum that the whole squad was up for sale. Northampton Town have signed striker James Collins on loan from Shrewsbury Town until the end of the season. Collins, 25, had started Shrewsbury's last 12 games and frequently skippered the team, scoring seven goals for the League One side this season. "I think there are some budget issues at Shrewsbury and it's not going the way we wanted," he told BBC Northampton "We thought it would be best for all parties to make way and free up some money." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35235692

Won promotion from L2 with Shrews last season and has already made 23 appearances for them in L1 this year.
Has won 5 promotions over his career and can play CM or on the wing.
Can never have too many winners and too much experience!
