If this record is 2nd rate, I can't wait for us to sign a 1st rate player "Won promotion from L2 with Shrews last season and has already made 23 appearances for them in L1 this year. Has won 5 promotions over his career and can play CM or on the wing" If somebody had posted yesterday he was going to sign today they'd have been laugh off the forum. You do wonder the calibre of the striker (and goalie?) DC's now going to sign, hopefully this doesn't mean TL's on his way to pay for them?? His record has got little to do with it. Nathan Blisset won promotion last year aswell, that doesn't make him a good signing for a conference club. We have signed more wingers this year than I can remember and have hardly used them. Our midfield has a champ player who was our marquee signing, sitting on the bench. He is old-motivation? Why is he leaving? I welcome new signings and have faith in the manager. My issue is with our supporters who prematurely ejaculate. It is January. I'll wait to see if he is a monkhouse/mansell or a lines/Easter before I comment.

Bit confused as to why Shrewsbury want rid, he's played quite a few games this season, is captain and was instrumental in winning promotion last year. One of their bigger earners who has been on the bench for every league game since October 31st.

Few comments on Lawrence from Shrews forum: "His legs have gone but he still retains his football brain. Sure he will do a great job for you, pulling the strings from midfield. Sorry to see him go, if that's true, but time catches up with us all." "Yep plays central now. Not started too many this season but had a big role last season. A wonderful player in his day capable of dictating the play and can run the game." "Last season he looked good and was pivotal for us, this season he hasn't had much of a look in and when he has he has generally looked off the pace, perhaps it's the lack of games and step up a league which is the problem for him." "Lawrence is slow on his feet. Footballing brain will be streets ahead of anything in your squad. Set-piece delivery into danger areas second to none. I'll add - if Lawrence has gone then it is a complete ******* disgrace." blueandamber.proboards.com/thread/91722/lawrence#ixzz3wUx7cddiBasically, he's a CM who is not going to win many foot races, but should give us some added quality on the ball.

Competition for Lines by the sounds of it.

If we are to sign Liam Lawrence I would suggest he'd play wide left. Get Browners link play going.
Also a different option in the centre when we play with 3.
Take him on till the end of the season I say.

"He will definitely be the top earner here.
I'd say you could get 2 very decent League One players for his wage."
So has he taken a massive pay cut/pay off or are we back to paying beyond our means?
Worryingly he does seem like Lines Mk2 rather than a typical DC signing and where does this leave Lines Mk1.

This guy is a very classy, intelligent player at the end of his career. He has Premieship and international experience and knows Darrell from Mansfield days, so Darrell has a very good idea about his personality. Interestingly he also played with Marcus at Sunderland. If he's fit he could have a big impact, even just until the end of the season. Like I've seen mentioned above, I can see him slotting in to left midfield a la Monkhouse last year, though I know he's good in the centre of midfield too. I'm quite excited by this one if it's true as I think he looks ideal for what we need.

Worryingly he does seem like Lines Mk2 rather than a typical DC signing and where does this leave Lines Mk1. Playing 3-5-2 you need to have a minimum of 5 CMs in the squad anyway, as if you only have 4 (like we have up to now) and even just one gets injured then you have no cover for your starting 3 CMs. Whilst Lines has been injured we've had zero CM cover for Sinclair-Mansell-Clarke trio in midfield, so if we're to continue using that formation then we desperately needed another body in that area of the pitch anyway. As for how much he's on, I'm not sure. But DC always mentions not overpaying players and only wanting to work with players who are hungry, so I have full faith in DC that he's made this signing for the right reasons and it's a sensible move for us to make.

I remember Liam Lawrence and Disley tearing us to shreds for Mansfield in what I still reckon was the best away performance from a side I've seen at The Mem Good signing, a player with loads of experience, who's played at a higher level and with good ability. Let's hope for a few more Remember the game well - who was the striker up front who scored 2 goals ?? I think it was Iyseden Christie.

Looks like they might have money problems. Also there's a rumour on their forum that the whole squad was up for sale. Northampton Town have signed striker James Collins on loan from Shrewsbury Town until the end of the season. Collins, 25, had started Shrewsbury's last 12 games and frequently skippered the team, scoring seven goals for the League One side this season. "I think there are some budget issues at Shrewsbury and it's not going the way we wanted," he told BBC Northampton "We thought it would be best for all parties to make way and free up some money." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35235692 Football's a joke as what happened to the £10m Northampton owed the council JJOT decided to donate half his salary for a week to save the club.

His dead ball delivery could be useful. Isn't that something we've been a bit poor on until now this season?
