As usual when future attendances are mentioned there is very little realism just hope or pure fantasy. The last time Rovers played in front of a 30,000 crowd in Bristol was FORTY years ago and that was at Ashton Gate,I bet 50% of the crowd there that night are dead by now. Where are the tens of thousands of new 'fans' going to come from, the 40,000 Wembley 'gasheads' ? mostly day trippers, mums, kids and even city supporters having a day out, no they wont be going to watch Rovers v Crawley in the league. Lets not forget the thousands of houses being built in the area,do you really expect people who are burdened with a huge mortgage are going to spunk £50 plus on a Saturday afternoon to watch football ?,maybe a few will but not in the numbers to justify building a huge stadium. Comparisons with Brighton are daft imo, they have a huge catchment area and got big crowds in the Goldstone until it started to fall apart, how can you compare them with Rovers who are the smaller club in a 2 club city ?.

Am I the only one who thinks that planning 35k 26k is ridiculous? It may make financial sense but from a capacity point of view I don believe we'll sell out 21000 WEEK ON WEEK even if we were pushing playoffs next season to the championship. People aren't gonna like me saying this but the sh** have more regular fans than we do, that's a fact! But they only average 15200 and the are in the championship. The only time we'll regularly sell out 21000 if we were pushing for the premiership. Dont get me wrong I would love to be stood corrected this time next season. With respect to you and everyone that has posted I think the general view is a bit blinkered. I don't believe its all about football, this will be used for concerts and other sporting events that may well fill it to capacity on each occasion. A concert for exinstance with a stage taking up one end could reduce the capacity from 26k to less than 20 or 21k to less than 15k. Four concerts a year could pay for the extra capacity quite quickly I think we as a club will grow into the stadium with steady success, as PeterHooper said "build the stadium and they will come" yeah that's something I didn't think of, that makes real sense. Build a big ground then we can host large scale concerts. My missus went to see Bon jovi at Cardiff City and it was a sell out so maybe that's why it is important to have a bigger ground than the sh** with better transport links etc to attract the big gigs and stop them going to Ashbin Gate

Langford gas has just changed my opinion maybe we should build it as big as possible so it's better than ashbin gate, that way we can attract the big gigs. It's about making money for the club, if that means rattling around in a 35k stadium I'm up for it.

Maybe you should check out brighton's historic attendances, very similar to ours apart from the late 70's when they went up to the old first division. They are now getting the biggest crowds in their history at the new stadium. If we do it right there is no reason why we can't do the same. We are currently averaging 8k in one of the worst grounds in the country, we will double that in the first season at uwe, then people will be asking why we didn't build it bigger.

As I said Brighton have a huge catchment area, look at a map,its most of Sussex and half of Kent...not competing for support in a city like Rovers are. I went to Brighton boxing day 77,crowd 25,500 ( and Rovers didn't even take the 500) up until then that seasons lowest attendance at the Goldstone was 18,976 against Cambridge in the league cup 1st round on a Tuesday night!,what were Rovers getting at home that season ?,have a look.
16,000 in the first season at the uwe...you have nothing to base that figure on,like I said originally 'hope and fantasy', come on get real.

What did the original pp allow, was it 3 or 4 concerts? Could easily bring in 2-3 million per season though, which would easily service and repay any debt incurred.

That's f**king bullshit, councils are f**king useless. There's a time frame for concerts anyway at football grounds, so they don't interfere with the pitch. Three or four weekends during the summer for gigs sounds about right.

So a similar attendance to got in the mid 70's? Whilst they have a big catchment area on a map is it really bigger in terms of population? We've got Bristol, Bath, Somerset & Glos even across the bridge into Gwent to pull in fans. Brighton, Swansea & Reading prove that a successful team will bring in the fans, who'd have thought during our relegation season we'd be ending this season with home attendances regularly over 9,000??

Don't forget further east, quite a few of us in chippers. Uwe very accessible from here we will pick up new support. Important to be almost filling the mem every week in our last season, and to market it effectively in our first season at uwe. Obviously to maintain support long term the team will need to be successful, but it's chicken and egg, more fans through the turnstiles equals bigger playing budgets.
