I love how the club have done recently, on & off the pitch. As we get closer & closer to season-end, this thought has entered my mind more & more...
There are many players from the past that we love as they did great for us, but ultimately, they got to go on to play at the top, leaving the Gas behind. Stewart, Hayles, Roberts, Cureron, Lambert... Since then, clubs like Fulham, Wigan, Reading, Burnley, Blackpool, Cardiff, Swansea, Hull, BOURNEMOUTH!!... all have got to play at the top also. Well now I ask, WHY CAN'T WE!?
I really hope that now with this new takeover, and the stadium on the way, we can finally say ''NO!!'' When clubs call for Taylor and Bodin and whoever else, can we finally say ''actually, we want to get somewhere this time... Not just let these players put themselves in the shop window with us and then F off without a REAL care for the club they've left behind''!?
Can it finally be the turn of THE GAS!!?
UTG!

I think we'll keep all our strikers if we go up, assuming DC wants too and if we don't I think we'll keep them all except Taylor. I wouldn't blame Taylor for wanting to leave if we don't go up either.

Thought about this a lot too.
I think we will keep our key players if we get promoted.
DC seems to operate well on a modest budget. I'm apprehensive about how we will operate from next season with regards to players wages and transfers. Of course there may be nothing to worry about, if DC wants to carry on like he is then fine (actually more than fine!) as long as we are successful. But the only way we will keep Taylor is by substantially increasing his wages I would have thought. And that sets a precedent imo.
Anyhow lets see where we're playing next season before worrying about it!

We're not in a position to say no to offers for Taylor we he's out of contract. Convincing him to stay will be very hard unless we go up. Like some have said, it would be hard to begrudge him leaving. Could be his only shot at making a life changing amount of money and I wouldn't want us to pay him silly money to stay in the bottom tier as it might have a bad effect on the group.

If they were signing for another team and were in a contract with us, the buying club might struggle to pay the transfer fee + big wages + a signing on fee. If he's not in contract a player will hope that some of the money that club saved from not having to pay a transfer fee will go to him. Keeping hold of MT could therefore be quite expensive and might require good wages and a lump sum 'welcome [back] payment' / 'golden hello'

can't see taylor staying if we don't go up. you cant blame him for wanting to play at the highest level but at the end of the day we managed to find goal scorers before matty taylor and we will continue to find them after hes gone. the only disappointment will be us receiving £0 in return for his services if he leaves.

We've lost out time & time again, with every one of them! With your thinking, we'll have to be happy to just stick around League Two for the vast majority of our future then, just as we have since the earliest of those players I listed, left us? UTG

It doesn't say alot for Taylor if he's just prepared to walk out on the club for nothing, when they've taken him from the football scrapheap (as an average at best Conference striker ) to the top scorer in league football?

Also, the development of Bodin as a serious goal threat helps. If Easter, Bodin, Gaffers and Ellis stay we will still have decent options even before Taylor is replaced. I think we'd be fine, as Clarke and the staff clearly know what they are doing at present.

I meant, all others have failed to adequately replace any of our best strikers we've ever sold. We've lost out every single time. We're lower down the leagues now than we were when we sold any of the players I listed. I too am confident in DC's ability to succeed where the other managers failed, but at the same time I do think we should be doing all we can to keep our best attackers, for once. If we don't learn from history, we're doomed to repeat it (again and again?)

Despite his lack of game time I'd love us to try and get Ollie Mcburnie permanently. Obviously Swansea rate him highly but I'd love to see him playing for the Gas next season..
