I'm not really concerned if we do have to re apply for the planning permission at UWE. Never had any doubt over South Glos approving. They are desperate for a stadium. If it means we have a better stadium - not fussed with a wait.

Don't worry, that date applies for the more usual 3 years to begin construction. Our permission is for five years, so we have until January 2018 to begin work. I want to believe you Womble and no one seems to be panicking but why does it say Jan 2016 on that document if its really 2018? If you look at the decision notice document (17th January 2013), it states that the permission is for five years. Somebody made a typo on the front page.

There is hardly a use for a stadium, no big teams or clubs to use it. If S Glos were desperate for a multi use stadium or suchlike, they would have built one. The council has existed for over 20 years! Our population is 300k and we have about 18 secondary schools, if the people wanted a regional stadium, there are enough to demand one but it hasn't been mentioned locally at all.

I asked Wael about any big changes to the stadium when we were outside the players party, I believe he replied 'as per planning permission' or something to that effect. Agree with you though, I would have no problem waiting longer for a better design.

I think we should have the corners filled in from the start, it's cheaper to do it straight away, ad you don't pay VAT, whereas if you fill them in later you do.

The UWE has the corners filled in already. Well, it will if we actually build it.

Not sure "desperate" is the right word but it's part of S Glos local plan to have 22,000 capacity stadium, as far as AG given that's in South Bristol it's hardly relevent to most S Glos residents.

This is completely on the money. A 21000+ capacity stadium is part of "South Gloucestershire's Master Plan" which is why we got permission so easily in the first place. It does make me wonder why there is then a restriction on the number of major concerts each year, but I guess there's still time to change that...

It's all in the planning consents.

AG is about 7 miles away from UWE. Regardless of what county/district/region it's in, that is pretty close for another 20k seats in a sports venue and another set of conference facilities. There is not a wall along the boundary you know and nothing stopping S Glos companies using the AG facilities.

Anyone else heard the same?

South Glos has no direct requirement, or need for a 20,000 seat stadium and has never had the intention, or indeed the money, to build one. However it has always been open to another organisation building one, and therefore giving it a raison d'etre - so they were quite receptive to us rolling a couple of hundred metres across the county border. It adds to South Glos' ability to regard itself as a 'proper' local authority, with a full range of facilities, rather than largely a manager of some of Bristol's suburbs.
