But if English fans didn't congregate in large number around bars perhaps there's less chance they'd get attacked? Also don't forget there was trouble in the days leading up to the match and that seems to have been down mainly our own fans. More likely if England fans dint stick together and were about in dribs n drabs, more would be in hospital Fair comment. If I was there I sure as hell wouldn't want to be in a small group I'd want to be surrounded by as many England fans as possible.

Now heard talk if alcohol bans around the stadium and fanzones. Surely the Russian ultras and French/Algerian hooligans weren't drunk? Seems like ruining all the decent majority of fans fun to stop a couple of drunken scuffles. Bad idea if true. But if English fans didn't congregate in large number around bars perhaps there's less chance they'd get attacked? Also don't forget there was trouble in the days leading up to the match and that seems to have been down mainly our own fans. maybe they should hold hands in pairs and sing 'coom by ya' (can't spell that) in with Welsh and Irish

Yup although from what i've read i'm glad i'm sat on me sofa, from a link posted earlier a lot of the russians are boxers/mma fighters etc. So quite difficult to defend against. There was trouble for the Irish as well, still spose many on here will blame us English fer that too

It'll be interesting to see what UFFA actually do if they's a repeat of violence by the Russian's.

If they actually disqualify us what do you think all those England and Russia fans will do then? I highly doubt they'll do that

Well I for one am glad that the next World Cup is in a country with a lenient, hands-off police force, and that the locals will be very welcoming to any who travels.

Trouble last night between the German and Ukraine fans.......Don't think it got much publicity in the UK.
Is this trouble an unintended consequence of increasing the amount of countries in the Finals?

This is the last chance for the hooligans to get some proper international experience in before Russia, then No Fixed Abode, then Qatar, afford few decent opportunities.

Think UEFA will use this violence to say what a great idea they had to make the next finals a travelling circus. This could well be the last UEFA tournament held in one country (or 2 for the pedantic).

French prosecutors have said some 150 Russians were the cause of the trouble in Marseille.
Shame on everyone who blamed England fans when it was clear as day they were not to blame and were attacked.

I'm afraid we are tarred with a certain brush because of trouble in years gone by now the emerging hooligans from other countries know they can antagonise groups of our fans knowing there will be an element who will rise to it and get the eventual blame sorry to say but that's how it seems to be. I woulldnt be at all surprised if we were along with Russia made an example of. Surely though the next World Cup venue is looking a bit iffy who would want to go there??! That would prove interesting considering the World cup is due there in two years time.

And the problem through history of football hooligans abroad is that they don't get prosecuted and jailed, just rounded up and deported. As a hooligan going abroad and fighting is a free hit the worse you get is sent back home. Start jailing them abroad for six months or a year and people will think twice about getting involved. So far for all the trouble arrest numbers look ridiculously low so it appears the French will carry on with the failed lessons of the past.

Thing is though like over here if that happened arrests would be random and aimed at softer targets, people on the periphery or people fighting back in self defence. For example how would you feel if someone came over twatted you in the mouth, you being human hit them back next thing you get 6 months. A lot of people who are not holligans but just normal people defending themselves get knicked quite often
