How can anyone think Putin is the aggressor: EU funded coup by far right extremists in Ukraine. BBC immediately recognises this as a legitimate government, as does the UK government. This was a coup with guns and no elections. Does that not ring an alarm bell with you? East Ukraine is 99% ethnic Russian as is the Crimea where the Russian fleet is based. You think Russia will give up her main naval port for her Navy? How stupid are the EU? This isn't a tinpot country, there are 170 million Russians. Would we give up Scapa flow if Scotland joined the Russian Federation? Really? How many middle Eastern conflicts has Russia started? Did overthrowing Assad at the behest of the west benefit Syria? How has the map of Europe expanded? I have seen very little imperialism from Russia and nobody gave a damn before the media started reporting on the big bad Russian bogeyman, VP. Those limp incompetent wastrels in the EU really will cop a bad one as the Russians do not f**k around and will not tolerate expansion right up to their borders or foreign meddling. The EU will back Neo Nazis if it gets the result. The idea Putin, in his swivel chair, ordered the ultras to break up the EU - please! This is not a bond movie. I do not particularly like the Russian governance system, or VP, or the oligarchy. I don't, however, buy that he is some despotic madman. He would run rings around pretty much anyone we have. They are not the aggressor, they're just another participant in this madness of empire building as much as anyone. Don't forget how Sadaam has WMD, they will drag your sons and money into wars just to carve up the fat turkey of the Middle East which is on its knees currently just waiting for a superpower to take control. I was tempted to respond to this pointing out where I saw a few inaccuracies, simplifications and omissions, and indeed where I agreed but then thought that this is politics and should be in general chat. So I'll settle for saying roll on the new season where we can get back to talking about Rovers.

Got this in my mailbox today :-)
In our lifetime there are some universal constants that we rely on to see us through the morass.
"Rain Comes From The Clouds"
"Sun lights Up The Sky"
"Hummingbirds Do Fly"
So you can imagine my consternation and sense of hopeless isolation when I saw a footage of Tolkien-like Russian "Orcs" rushing forward whilst the trajectories of our own mob more resembled Bilbo Baggins with the wind up him.
SHOCKING.
Is nothing sacrosanct.
When most things were going to hell in a hadbasket we drew great strength as a nation from the fact that we were the undisputed hooligan champions of world. Sadly it would appear that we have been unceremoniously relieved of that that title - a medal ripped from Mutley' lapel. Reading related articles it appears that whilst we were basking in infamy forged on a diet of beer and low IQ's the Russians (and Polish too) have turned professional. Alcohol has gone (slows the reaction time in combat) to be replaced by a rigid training regime (boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, and the like) and military-like organisation. They have elevated "ill-discipline" to a new level. Spanish "ticky-taca" has become Russian "bish-boshki".
To add further insult members of the Russian political class have endorsed their countrymen (replace the Norwegian commentator with Vlad Putin in this classic clip - this is priceless).
Is the demise of this great English institution as Mark Twain would say "exaggerated" - only time will tell.
When the hand-wringing, soul-searching, and no small amount of wound-licking is over we need to ask ourselves what can be done to avoid a repeat for surely as night follows day every Russian granny with a stanley blade will be licking their lips in two years time.
Did we fail at grass roots - should we introduce legislation forcing the supermarkets to replace pork pies with copies of Ullitimate Fight Club ?
Are more academies and centres for the "violently-gifted" required - can we we rebuild in time for Qatar ?
Let us not go quietly into the night,
Cyril (A Patriot).
P.S: Just Joshing Folks !

Went to the game, seemed to go off peacefully enough apart from the flare. Loads of English and Welsh there but all very discreet.
Centre of Lille looks like it's getting a bit lively mind.

Seems like.the police were more prepared and have used containment tactics in Lille according to the news. That says doesnt.sound like our fans helped themselves once again by lighting flares/smoke bombs in the street. Is it possible knowing the potential for it to kick off to just have a relatively quiet ducking drink and sbow ourselves in a good light? Russia 2018 seems like.a nightmarr waiting to happen

I don't know anything about it but I suspect there are plenty of our meatheads who feel affronted by what the Russians did to our drunken buffoons in Marseille and have travelled over without a ticket for some revenge. Feel sorry for the players, have to put up with these prats every time we go to a major tournament.

It averages at around 40% across the East, it has a bit of conspiracy in there as well. I'm leaving it anyway with the word Georgia.

If you listen to him, he acknowledges his wrong doings and doesnt pretend it never happened. He also happens to be one of the better pundit/commentators/journalist on not just football but depression and how it affected him and effects other people. There is a place for people to get second chances and use their experiences for the better. Stan seems like one of those

He is a bit like Jason Roberts though (on Twitter at least) and uses racism quite a lot in situations where that isn't the real issue.
