I also think the whole feeling around the club is different now. Whenever we have been in Division 4 or the Conference we were always under pressure to get out of the league. That pressure was on the fans too and we were always wanting everything to be in place to make a challenge for promotion and that meant every summer fans were on about signings and feeling let down if things weren't perfect from the first match. We always felt we shouldn't be where we were! Depending on your age we will have different feelings about where we feel our natural place in football's order is, me having been brought up on Rovers since 1966 feeling where we are now is our place, though we could and perhaps should be higher and now have the potential to do so. Whatever, I think it is different now but I suspect many will disagree, in that IMO we are now back at our natural place or the place where we have spent most of our history. Now a few seasons of consolidation, building the club and getting things and finances in place off the pitch is more important. The pressure to get promotion won't be there now I hope although I do expect us to challenge strongly. Obviously we can't not try to go up and if the chance comes we will have to go for it but the pressure is different I think. The difference between the Championship and league 1 is vast and another promotion would leave us vulnerable with the club infrastructure as it is at the moment not that we could or would want to turn it down obviously!!
This is a long way of saying if we don't get any more players in before the first match it won't matter so much because we can get loanees or permanent signings until the end of August and we have more time. And I for one have a completely different feel compared to the last 10/12 years. Let's not just get new players for the sake of it. All the players DC has got so far are likely to be in the team so again gradual improvement (I hope!) with our squad already there.
