Any Businessman worth their salt will have a Plan "B" What is the point wasting time and money on a plan B when they expect Plan A to land? Wasting time ? Wasting money? Doesn't cost anything to ask SGloucs if there is another potential site. But remember, S Gloucester are likely the deal maker in all this. Remember, this stadium of ours is the key that unlocks £400m in investment in the area. Remember the Henbury Loop?

Henbury Loop? Never gonna happen, and with Henbury being in Bristol ( I know because I pay the exhorbitant Council Tax) not South Glos I dont see the connection.
I was told at the time that IF there was going to be Henbury Loop then it was supposed to be funded by the E.U (yeah like thats gonna happen)

Remember the Henbury Loop? crikey, both railtrack and network rail dismissed the loop prodject in favour of a half-baked 4 a day service to yate or parkway.... and i'll believe that when i see it (presumably from heaven/hell)....

That's true re. the UWE land price. It was the club that moved the goalposts by wanting to purchase the land, so why should they expect "mate's rates"? If our owners are serious about building a new stadium and sticking around for the long term, then pay up and get the bloody thing built! A few seasons in the Championship and a good cup run or two and they'll soon get the £££ they're haggling over back! Perhaps I'm being "disingenuous" and there are more complex issues to address than the asking price, but I’m currently getting images of that task from The Apprentice where the candidates have to buy a load of random junk at the lowest possible price –trying desperately to haggle with the shopkeeper to get an extra quid off an old coat stand.
Think it's a bit more than that. IF rumours are accurate, the land was valued at £8m when it was to be leased and UWE have naming rights, but now we want to buy the land it's suddenly £12m. Assuming that this rumour is true (and I have no idea), of course there are lots of negotiations going on - why would we pay £4m more than the land was valued at, especially knowing UWE got the land for virtually nothing from Hewlett Packard. I don’t think what UWE paid for the land is very relevant (I still weep when I see how much I paid for my house compared to the previous owner 5 years earlier!). Even if those rumours are correct, I personally think that £12m for land which would safeguard the club's long-term future and allow us to progress up the leagues isn’t an outrageous amount. I know it's not my money being spent, but I'm not sure it's worth pulling the plug on it over £4m - it's not that much in the grand scheme of things.

That's exactly what I was thinking xplosive! If it is £12m to buy compared to £8m to lease/rent then that seems very reasonable. But of course no one really knows. I can't imagine that a difference of £4m is holding things up. But I'm not aware as many on here about the UWE so what do I know? UTG!

Thing is, 4m is a years revenue at crowds a few seasons back and the signing of a number of good players to get us in the championship.

NH's original plans 5(?) years ago suggested that the stadium was going to cost all the Sainsbury money from selling the Mem and building costs will have increased Plus if it is now "world class" it will probably cost more than NH's build to a minimum approach so say a final build cost of £40m .Then we have interest charges whilst it's being built, project managers etc costs, the cost of running the club at the Mem, plus the costs of buying and building the training ground. The Al-Q's could be looking at a £55/60m investment if that's the case is the fact the UWE now a few million more really that much of a deal breaker if SH is being truthful when he says finance is already in place. It seems either the Al-Q's have been stringing us along and they could never afford to build the UWE, or they are just pleading poverty now in the hope the UWE will drop their asking price. I can't really see it's the former as why get involved in Rovers if they couldn't afford the UWE or why bother exchanging contracts on the training ground next week.

I believe that money is available if DC wants it (within reason) but he has chosen not to use it as the primary target of safety this year is nearly achieved, I know we need at least 4 - 5 more wins this is not a difficult target especially with our home form and surely our away form must improve soon! DC would never admit it but I firmly believe that consolidation this year (and rightly so) was the main target. I think we will see money spent in the summer regardless of what is going on with the UWE as we need to prepare for the championship as we all know it's a massive step up from L1. Just look at the sh** all that money spent and they are going down quicker than Linda Lovelace!
