Why do some on here suggest Lumley is only on here for back up to Puddy and possibly another keeper DC is about to bring in. Why on earth would he come here to the end of the season to be third choice. He has clearly come here to compete for the first team spot with Puddy and not a n other. It beggars belief that some appear to think that QPR would be quite happy for him to warm our bench for the rest of the season and even possibly keep a seat in the stand warm, while two other keepers make up the match day squad. I for one feel quite sure he will be better than Puddy but as for being better than any Premiership keeper, that may well be asking a little too much at this early stage.

I for one feel quite sure he will be better than Puddy but as for being better than any Premiership keeper, that may well be asking a little too much at this early stage. The assumption that he's come here with the guarantee of first team football would make sense if he'd been playing anywhere close to semi-regularly elsewhere but he hasn't. He didn't make a single appearance for Stevenage in League Two last season, and only made one for Morecambe the season before. I'd imagine he jumped at the opportunity to move on loan to a League One side, even if he was facing the prospect of warming the bench, and I'd imagine QPR would be happy for him to come as I doubt there are other clubs falling over themselves to sign him. For what it's worth I think he will start at Walsall, but to dismiss the idea of him coming in as cover to Will Puddy as ridiculous is just churlish.

Hi Joe, welcome to the Gas. Now the first rule of Bristol Rovers Football Club is: you do not read GasChat. The second rule of Bristol Rovers Football Club is: you DO NOT read GasChat! Third rule of Bristol Rovers Football Club: if someone yells “stop!”, goes limp, or taps out, the fight is over. Fourth rule: only two guys to a fight.

Based on this bloke's CV he is not ready to be a 1st choice keeper in league one. He should be on loan at a league 2 club playing regularly. I hope he surprises us and hope he doesn't fall victim to DC's risky approach here to signing a keeper (assuming he is signed as being 1st choice).

Everyone is entitled and all that, but there is a lack of class here. Any chance of welcoming the bloke in? It's not his fault he is here is it!! Have I missed something? Let's not confuse the forum with a match day. I am very underwhelmed by the signing if he is 1st choice but that doesn't mean I'm not going to support him at Walsall on Saturday. I'm sure many others are like me.

Evil Posts confirms that the new Goalie will start on Saturday.....
DC also confirms that Money is an issue.....
"I wanted to get a permanent signing, but sometimes when you are looking at experienced goalkeepers in the Championship finances can be a stumbling block.
"They are all on top-class wages, but I am delighted to bring Joe in and we appreciate that Ian Holloway has let him come to us.
"It is a good opportunity for the lad and is keen and mustard and has the desire to do well for us. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does for us."

Makes total sense in some ways.
There is so much money in the Championship now that I bet most experienced keepers are on between 8-10k per week + add ons if not more. I remember seeing a wage slip for one of the city keepers, I think it was Basso, when City were in the Championship 10 or so years ago. I was working for Audi at the time and it was in the glovebox. Basic money back then was £5k per week and bonuses netted him just under £7k. If we move on a good few years, 8-12k would certainly be the going rate and still out of our league in L1. Regardless of how much Wael may or may not have, you cannot just spend yourself out of this league. Look at Charlton.

Says it all, clearly we are in the market for what everyone wants but cant do a deal. Someone said Gerken turned down a move to a Championship club and he was on something like 10k a week

Interestingly I think this is probably the first time Holloway has sent us a player on loan. Wonder if it's anything to do with the changing of the guard.

Announced this morning on R B that Lumley is likely to make his debut at Walsall on Saturday. If he does, let's just get behind him. UTG Think everyone wants him to do well, it's just some of us thought we needed an experienced keeper in to sort and command our leaky defence, now he's here all the fans will support and encourage him, he's even got a ready made song, "so lumley" by the police. We'd better start practising our falsettos, then.
