JCH doesn’t care about us and we shouldn’t get attached and sentimental about him.
Okay, yes he may care whilst he’s here but when a bigger club comes along he will jump ship like 99% of the others have in the past.
He came here because our contract offer was one that would “set him up for life”.

With the money floating around in the conference it’s not really a surprise we were paying him 1.5k a week.
Not well spent with hindsight but had it gone the other way and we lost him 6 months later it would have been wHy dIdNt We PaY hIm wHatEvEr He WaNtEd We AlWaYs SeLl FoR pEaNuTs.
That’s football for you. Some signings work out some don’t. 1.5k is probably fair for a forward who was having a great season with Aldershot who were in with a shout of promotion and gutted to be losing him.

DC obviously thought he was worth a punt; doubt it consumed all that much of the transfer/wage budget either - so why would it be vetoed? Never really saw enough of Bernard at Rovers to say too much about his talent - but sometimes these things just don't work out for whatever reason. It's a shame, but hopefully the lad will get his career back on track at Gloucester. I think I read somewhere we paid around 100k for him, if so turned out to be quite an expensive flop by our standards. Looked a good prospect on paper just didn't work out for him here, couldn't get in the starting 11 at Maidenhead this season so definitely needs a confidence boost for his career. Was definitely a five figure sum. Thought it was around the 60k mark

The title of this thread is perhaps a little disrespectful to a player that tried his hardest for the club. I thought he was a decent footballer, just lacked any semblance of a strikers instinct and therefore rarely looked like scoring. Good luck in the future Victor. What dya expect from GGMI

His career really kicked on didn’t it, who the f**k sanctioned that deal to bring him here? Was worth a punt, didn’t work out but it happens. Best managers in the world don’t get a lot of signings right and a lot of them have the funds to purchase whoever they want.

The words haven't translated well … Apologies! For the record I really liked Colkett but I think DC hit his confidence hard when declaring he didn't do enough and sent him back to Chelsea early. We were a stepping stone for Clarke Salter nothing more and so it proved. Chelsea were not happy with the way we handled CC - At the time it was muted they wouldn't let us have access to any other of their young stars and they have plenty. That was my point DCs handling of the situation was very poor in my opinion. Charlie was immediately loaned to Swindon, when he appeared against us at the Mem he looked quite effective taking the ball from the keeper but we pressed hard in their half and he never got beyond the halfway line.
That’s because we had Sincs. A player like Colkett will never get the time on the ball he needs when you have someone like Sincs harassing you.

Excellent signing for us ...Nice surprise as well ! Think he could do very well for us .... nice to see the link with Chelsea is still open after the Colkett / Clarke Salter /DC disaster. Well I mean that’s just an outright lie isn’t it? Colkett was class he was just inconsistent which isn’t something to be surprised about with a young player. We probably couldn’t afford to play him as often as we wanted purely because of that, we needed someone to perform a 6/10 every game rather than someone who was a 9/10 one week then a 3/10 for the next 3. CS came with a huge amount of pressure if you ask me, being talked about as the next John Terry etc from everyone at Chelsea and people familiar with England at youth level. He didn’t do too well and hasn’t really anywhere he’s been but they were hardly disasters.

Seriously? What's ggmi problem? Why the need to bump a tread from 3 1/2 years ago? The blokes weird. No problem. Welcoming Okebourne back after his name change. Don't forget attack the post not the poster Aren’t you recently a new parent? Yet you’re bumping threads on here from 3-4 years ago?

We were never going to come close to getting promoted please stop saying we were in a prime place for a promotion charge and using it as an excuse to make things seem worse than they are.

I don't think we ever looked a solid bet for promotion. Even at 4th. Performance was not good, hence why people wanted Coughlan out and why attendances were down. To me, it was just a matter of time when the wheels come off, even if Coughlan was still here in charge. Wonder if the "Coughlan out" brigade are still posting? 👋

I expected us to slide down the table, regardless of whether GC or BG were in charge. I didn’t expect us to be this good at doing it though! Early days still for Ben and unfortunately took over the club in a false position IMO. Genuinely think that’s why there’s such a poor reaction on here. We were third or whatever and now we’re 12th in just a few games. I’m not phased by it. We were never gonna go up and were never challengers. Think it’s ridiculous that people are on his back already but that’s football. So you have first hand experience of his training sessions and dressing room team talks then? Don’t see the relevance?
