Great to hear the first "eieieio up the football league we go " of the GC era today. The whole point of football is to get carried away, I for one am enjoying the air of possibility around at the mo.

RIP Junior. H2 v Yeovil was the stuff that keeps this game special for us all, thanks for those and the other memories.

I think 95% of the forum have learnt to ignore you. Why do you pick on SteveK? It warms my heart that the likes of you are in the 5% that have not ignored me. You friendship is very much appreciated. Your wilfully provocative manner and constant repetition of the same points are seriously impairing my enjoyment of this forum, and evidently that of others. If this was just a newspaper or A.N.Other internet forum that you were polluting, that'd be fine. But this is a place for people to build aspects of a Rovers community and help discuss things in a way that helps push the club forward or at least provide a new perspective or food for thought. Obviously you can do what you want, and are unlikely to give a monkey's - but I wanted you to be under no illusions that, for me at least, you and other people who play the same game are the reason for my decreasing level of engagement with Gaschat.

FFS the whole point of football is getting carried away. No-one is saying anything epochal happened yesterday but Jesus it put a smile on everyone's face. Last minute winner following spirited siege; tails up throughout; pantomime villain player and manager sent off. It seriously doesn't get any better than that. If you can't just bask in that glow....

Thanks, ran out specially in half time anticipating a famous away victory, and bought a new little radio £16 from Bob's Best. Difficult to say what is the bigger disappointment, the radio or the resumption of BAU in second half.

Can't find it on the radio, just city and Yeovil on the BBC. Anyone know the right frequency? Cheers.

I'm English and try as I might I can't summon the enthusiasm that used to come so naturally when I was younger. I remember up til 2002 being massively emotionally invested in England. I then moved abroad for 7 years and lost it, never to return. I love the Gas, football and the WC but am completely indifferent to England. I know for a fact having shared this with other Gasheads that I am not alone. Maybe it's because I am at my core West Country, not English.
Whilst sympathetic to the eye rolling that all the hoopla must cause in Wales/Scotland, I have nothing against England. But some people on here are genuinely mystified by anyone who is not solidly behind England. I'm equally mystified by people who put England on the same emotional level as BRFC. Different strokes. Live and let be.

Loves: When we get all verses of Irene instead of just chorus. Chatting to random people stood next to you. Looking at the team sheet A4 handout to check for familiar names (most recently Tom Eaves - he deserved a ripple of applause from us at least, surely, after his stellar turn with us a few years ago). Working with 1000 other gasheads to buy a cheap red card from the ref (one of the main duties on a home fan's job description) and then "Cheerio"-ing with gusto. Mr Angry behind me screaming "you bell-end!" at the ref 5 seconds in. Captain Gas' interaction with the kids. Laughing as my sons go mental when we score. Nauseating opponent getting his comeuppance (memorably this season, Charlie Wyke). I could go on and on... Hates: (well, mild irritants) canned music right after the final whistle. Saharan overcooked dryness of pies. Away team winning the toss and changing ends (actually, that one is a hate).

Wonder if there will be any trouble between us this time. Been feisty affairs between us lately. Who knows, we might see someone tear a tissue or someone may even jump off a dolls house! Ooh, I could crush a grape.

I don't think that the failure of the PA detracted from the reflective and respectful feeling. In the Blackthorn I actually sensed the shared humanity of the moment more as a result. Half time was very pleasant without the usual harangue, chatting to my brother next to me and hearing the conversation, analysis and laughter all around me. Same at the end with the cheers allowed to ring out and be heard without being drowned out. For me personally, all that made for a fitting memorial to GD and what he and others have helped preserve for all of us together.

Does anyone actually give a genuine F##k about England? They clearly couldn't care less. I wish we had some kind of State of Origin style thing where we could get behind a West Country team who would give a sh** and therefore so would we. I assume most people on this forum are local and I'm curious whether you feel any connection to people in Newcastle or Liverpool or Lincoln. I'm connected to my homeland the West Country but not to some abstract notion of "England". And yes, as a matter of fact I have had a drink.

The club shop at the Mem has in previous summers held a heavily-discounted sale.....does anyone know if something similar is planned this summer?
Thanks.

Looking forward to this, having played at the old Conigre and been coached by Archie himself when he came to take a training session for the Avon Tyres boys team. I remember watching Southampton play Melksham Town and getting told to F.O. by Joe Jordan. It's a great set-up they have there now, esp the youth. Recommended, let's go there in numbers!

So you think that the Mem is a fantastic Stadium and that Ashton Gate is a dump? I am a true Gashead and I hate the fact that they ARE ahead of us with regards to the stadium. Homely and full of character the Mem may be it is hardly 'State of the art'. So the fact that I mention it means I must be a shithead? The fact that you can't see the difference says far more about you. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to see the Gas look down on City from a superior position with regards to league position, stadium build - in fact, in every way. Read the League One FB page and see who quite a few voted as the worst away stadium. Wow, that's something to be proud of, eh? We need a new stadium if we want to progress - which has been stated by the new owners and DC. Hang on, you are disagreeing with them...then with your logic you must be Sh1!heads! Get real! Relax bud he was joking.

Sincerely, can someone set me straight on why we can't redevelop the Mem? (Sorry if this is well documented and a bore for some). I moved back to Bristol in 2012 after many years abroad and have been loving it back at the Mem. Like the majority of people on this thread, it seems to me inevitable that despite the growth potential afforded by a move to the UWE, the matchday experience would inevitably suffer. No more standing (unless safe standing is adopted); no Glos Rd/chippies/Sporty/Annex/Vic etc etc on the doorstep, miles from town, bowl without atmosphere. Ask yourself whether you prefer the matchday experience at (say) Newport or Oxford. The latter is for me devoid of any sense of occasion or romance or excitement.
There also seems to be a majority on this thread that thinks that losing this is a price worth paying - fair enough, I get the bold 'I say we fly to the moon' agenda even if I'm not 100% on board. What I'm unsure of is why (with Mustafa Millions at the helm) we can't afford a substantial tart-up and expansion of the Mem site. I have heard estimates that 19k+ could be accommodated if capacity were optimised. Not big enough? Insurmountable logistics? Thanks for any knowledge.

Have been a reader of this forum, and previous forums, for many years and have never posted. But can't resist on this one. One of the things that frustrates me more than anything, is people demanding their opinions to be respected. What should be respected is someone's right to an opinion and their liberty to express that opinion. The opinion itself, such as believeling homosexuality is a choice, can be ridiculed to no end. Just because you have an opinion, does not change the facts. If I said that in my opinion the earth was flat, it would not make it so. And anyone who was repulsed or upset by my opinion are well within their rights to be. You are more than entitled to believe that homosexuality is a choice. But the science overwhelmingly shows that it is not. More to the point, homosexual people say it is not! And we've no reason to doubt them. I respect your right to hold the opinion homosexuality is a choice. But that doesn't mean you are correct, you are in fact, wholly incorrect. People are confusing choice on this thread. Inherently or genetically you maybe proposed to something being gay or left handed or violent for instance . The choice people make consciously or sub consciously is to not change. That's the choice and people make choices every minute of their lives what they choose is up to them as long as it's not an illegal act but no-one can be forced to agree with the choices other people make. This gets more risible as the thread continues. So let me get this right - the idea is that by refusing to repress your natural gay sexual urges, you're choosing to be gay. Excellent. I hadn't thought I had chosen to be born a man, but you've now educated me that I've in fact made a choice by refraining from having a sex change. I have friend who is 5'2". I will inform him that he has chosen to be short due to his failure to undergo a stretching regimen on a medieval torture rack. Please. Give up these tawdry arguments - 'at long last, sir, have you no sense of decency?'
