Blow for Charlton as Oxford United star snubs them for Bristol RoversBy Kent Live | Posted: May 31, 2017 Charlton Athletic have missed out on signing Oxford United midfielder Liam Sercombe. The former Exeter City star has decided to move to fellow League One side Bristol Rovers. Charlton were strongly linked with a move for Sercombe last week as they look to bolster their squad for a promotion push. But they've been dealt a blow this lunchtime as Rovers have announced his signing for an undisclosed fee. Luton Town and Scottish side Hibernian were also believed to be keen. The Hatters were thought to be in the chase for the Oxford United midfielder along with Hibernian and Charlton. But Rovers have nipped in to sign the 27-year-old player, who was frozen out by boss Michael Appleton towards the end of the season for unspecified disciplinary reasons. Although the fee is undisclosed, it is thought Athletic had been prepared to make an offer of between £100,000 and £150,000 for the former Exeter player. Rovers boss Darrell Clarke told the club's official website: "Liam was one of my top summer targets. "I was interested in signing him a couple of years ago as he is a quality attacking midfielder and I am delighted that he has agreed to join us. "I'm sure that our supporters will remember him from his time at both Exeter and Oxford and will welcome and appreciate the way he plays the game and I am grateful to the club's owner and directors for their backing as we prepare for next season." Perhaps he can reinvent himself in the Scandinavian countries where his English Football pedigree and Brazilian heritage would go down very well. If not the lad is likely to face the perils of National League South/North in my opinion.

I think that we all need to be patient until the UWE Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday 18 July 2017 (date projected from meeting dates over previous 3 years).
If we have not heard anything after that date - then will be the time to ask questions.

Miller was raised in Bretton, Peterborough and played local Sunday morning football for Bretton FC before moving through the divisions with Spalding United, Stamford and Boston United among others.
Going back home for a "fat pay day"!

Facing a "little turbulence" on the landing strip but all propellers are thankfully still functional.

I've reservations about UWE, moving to an industrial park between Avonmouth and Aust is surely a non-starter. I'd rather be playin conference football at the mem. May be there is a hidden desire to be "Toxic Gas"!

Lets face it they hold all the cards at the moment so could quote a very high rate. How many acres do you think the site is? Not too sure but no where near 58 acres, thought someone on here said they got the land at a cheap price from H Packard, depends how keen they are on the build, imagine that Wael has a plan B, and that South Glos might have given him the heads up on alternatives, but guesswork. UWE had chance to say they are no longer keen last week, I am more hopeful that listening to steve Hamer prior to Warsaw. As some have mentioned with his elder brother and father here recently maybe they have made progress. All I know I don't trust Chump even if he said tomorrow was Tuesday! For all we know H Packard may have inserted a "clawback clause" in the event of the land being sold for other purposes than university use. Such a situation might change the dynamics of current negotiations.

They may be idiots but that's the world we live in, he knew that and still went ahead and joined them.
Fair play to him for being that brave but he has just made his world a lot smaller.
I don't give a toss as he obviously didn't about us when he had his release clause leaked and signed at the 11th hour to sh** on us even more.
Its not as if he hasn't got previous (Oxford handshake) either is it?
Oxford fan here, Im friends Matty's cousin and she said last summer he had no intention of signing for Oxford, he was still angry that club let him go a few years before, the boy is a childish knob!! I can't believe you only got the 300k that has been reported??? Did he force for the move to that horrible club that is Bristol City or did you have to let him go if value was met??? I was told exactly the same by an Oxford "ITK" contact. He added that MT "just played Oxford along".

MT is not a Bristolian like the rest of us. I think that most of us in his position would simply "upsize" and get a much larger property elsewhere in line with our enhanced wealth. He does not have to live in the Bristol area and could move back to his "homeland" of Oxfordshire.
So is there a problem?
Possibly - he is not so popular with the Oxford fans at the moment!
Perhaps Wales is a better option to cover a potential move to Swansea City!
Has anybody leaked the release clause yet? Is there a J O'T relegation clause? Perhaps we will soon learn!
