The sky was deep blue in my rose tinted glasses but am now too depressed to continue to post as reality sinks in. Am I alone?

Gordon Strachan academy product gets new deal with Bristol RoversA Cov Kid who played in the same team as Coventry City’s Jordan Ponticelli has earned a deal at Bristol Rovers. Former Cardinal Wiseman schoolboy Lewis Ludford-Ison also played in the same school team as ex-Sky Blues Academy star Bassala Sambou, now with Premier League Everton, before becoming a team-mate of Ponticelli at the increasingly successful Strachan Football Foundation based at Rugby. It was while at the Foundation – set up by former Sky Blues boss and Scotland manager Gordon Strachan to help young lads pursue a career in football – that he was spotted by League One Rovers when he played in a friendly against their youth side and invited down for a trial. And two months in to an initial three-month deal with the club’s Under-23s development squad, the 19-year-old centre-half has impressed so much that the club has extended his contract at the Memorial Stadium until the end of the season. It’s been quite a journey for the lad who was rejected by his home-town club for being too small and then suffered a ruptured cruciate knee ligament. “I’m really pleased to get a longer term deal and just want to keep working hard in the Under-23s and see where it takes me at the club,” said the defender, who grew up in Longford and Stoke Green, and went to Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School. Bristol Rovers secretary David Sams, Lewis Ludford-Ison and his agent Prince Lamona “Bass Sambou is a good friend of mine and we were in the same year and played in the same school team at Cardinal Wiseman, and also for Cov Jag on a Sunday. “We both went on trial at Coventry City’s Academy together and obviously he was taken on. They said I was too small but soon after that I shot up. I’m 6ft 1 now. “I left Cov Jag and went to Sphinx Under-18s on a Saturday and then went to the Strachan Football Foundation where I was at college and played in the same team as Jordan Ponticelli, who is a year younger than me. Then in my third year I suffered a bad knee injury and had to have an operation before playing for Cov United at the back end of last season. “I played for the Foundation in a friendly against Bristol Rovers in the April and then later that summer I was due to go to study in America after securing a scholarship at the University of Ohio. But I was asked to go for a trial at Bristol and they gave me a short-term deal. “I am two months in to it and they have offered me a deal until the end of the season.” Bassala Sambou, now at Everton, played in the same school and Sunday junior team as Lewis Ludford-Ison Asked what type of player he is, Lewis said: “I’m aggressive but good with the ball.” His agent, Prince Lamona, said: “He’s a strong lad and he can get the odd goal, as he has in the Under-23s, so he’s good in both boxes. He can play as a right-back as well.” “He’s done really well because he’s competing against lads who have come up through professional academies. His initial contract was only going to be until November and I guess he didn’t really know what to expect. “But he’s worked really hard and they called him in last week and said they were going to extend his deal until the end of the season because he’s been doing really well. Coventry City's Jordan Ponticelli played with Lewis Ludford-Ison at the Strachan Football Foundation “So hopefully he can carry on his development and get another deal in the summer. “They have got a really young squad at Rovers where they really trust young players. I was really pleased because their development coach, Chris Hargreaves, said that if he does well he’ll definitely be pushing for the first team. Chris helps out on a first team match day as well, so he’s a good link to the senior side." He added: “It’s a shame he wasn’t picked up at Coventry. I guess he’s one that got away.” www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/football/football-news/gordon-strachan-bristol-rovers-ludford-13740478

Noticed when the players came out for the second half at Northampton all the team used the warmup cones with one exception. Chris got a very odd look from one of the training staff as he ignored the cones. Still has a rebellious streak?
But had a brilliant game!

Northampton Town FC have sent me this today:
"Also on Saturday, we will be opening a brand new GAME Zone on the West Stand concourse at Sixfields, headed up by our very own latest new signing, Liam Merry!
Liam, isn't a goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder or a striker, but he is an EA Sports Online Ranked Top 50 player who is also known online as RREAPERZz, and has been playing FIFA professionally since 2015. He has been recruited to represent Northampton Town in online tournaments both nationally and internationally. He will also be at Sixfields on matchdays, heading up our brand new GAME Zone that will open for the first time at the Bristol Rovers game on Saturday. The GAME Zone has been supported by GAME in Northampton, and includes a number of PS4s that will be available for supporters to use, under the guidance of Liam, every home matchday.
Turnstiles for Saturday's game will open at 1pm, and from 1pm until 2pm Liam will be in the GAME Zone on the West Stand concourse, playing games of FIFA against Cobblers supporters. Games will last for 6 minutes. From 2pm onwards, Liam will be recruiting a for a FIFA fans tournament, so for more details and to register your interest in joining the FIFA Fans Tournament for future games, please email gamezone@ntfc.co.uk
Make sure you don’t miss out on the fun!"
Should we be developing this type of initiative for our Gaming enthusiasts?

There's absolutely no point in trying to talk to the residents. Most of them will be pretty ambivalent I suspect. This will be hijacked by the usual suspects, the loony left brigade in the form of Carstairs, the Radice bitch, that awful stuttering woman from the Sainburys JR, and every other left-wing lunatic , and there are hundreds of them lurking under stones all around Bristol, will unite and attempt to shout this down. It really doesn't bear thinking about. I hope Wael knows what he's letting himself in for. No doubt, we have to expect opposition and a long drawn out process. But, the heartening thing is that the Green triumvirate of Radice, Hoyt and Telford are no longer on the council and have less influence. Also that Carstairs arguments used against the Sainsbury's development actually support the development of the Mem. These arguments were adopted by TRASH and the broader congregation of the Bishopston Society, including the "Asset of Community Value" flag attached by the Council. There'll be NIMBY's that will never be pleased, but it is also in the club's interest to try to engage with the local community in developing the plans. We might well see Stephen Barrett surface again who was a key exponent of both TRASH and ROSE. Perhaps Wael might "engage" with him for starters.

1971/72 Season
Rovers played away to Aston Villa on an Easter Monday. Due to an injury crisis Rovers selected apprentice keeper Richard Crabtree just a few weeks after his seventeenth birthday. The crowd was 45,158 and the young keeper gave an inspired performance during the 2-1 defeat.
2017/18 season
Alexis Andre is 20 years old and is a very good prospect - and deserves his chance against Oldham. It will also act as a major incentive to all members of the Development Squad. Mildy may be willing to come out of retirement as the "back-up" and provide further support for Alexis.

Looking through my rose-tinted glasses I assume that there would be nothing to stop us signing free agents next week on a contract or non-contract basis - if it was felt desirable to.

New Planning Development Initiatives - Urgent Action RequiredUnfortunately we may have "missed the boat" but why not some concerted rearguard action re designation of a strategic sports/leisure/employment facility (a new home for Bristol Rovers FC + ancillary retail facilities)! Something for SH to "get his teeth into". WITHOUT DELAY! 1. The West of England emerging Joint Spatial Plan and Joint Transport StudyThe four West of England Councils – Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol City, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire – are working together to produce a West of England Joint Spatial Plan (JSP) and Joint Transport Study (JTS), which will set out a prospectus for sustainable growth to help the region meet its housing and transport needs for the next 20 years, to 2036. www.jointplanningwofe.org.uk/www.jointplanningwofe.org.uk/gf2.ti/-/756738/25692261.1/PDF/-/Joint_Spatial_Plan_and_Transport_Study_Consultation_Report.pdf2. New South Gloucestershire Local Plan (2018 – 2036)Planning law requires that planning decisions are made in accordance with the council’s local plan. The new SGLP will be a development plan document (DPD) covering the whole administrative area of South Gloucestershire and the plan period will be 2018-2036. It will review and eventually replace existing local planning documents including the: South Gloucestershire Local Plan: Core Strategy- 2006-2027 (2013) South Gloucestershire Local Plan: Policies, Sites and Places Plan We are working with the three other West of England unitary authorities to prepare the Joint Spatial Plan (JSP). The JSP will set out the overall amount of new residential and employment development, and where it should be located across the West of England sub-region, as well as the infrastructure required to support that growth e.g. schools, transport, community facilities and green spaces. Part of the new local plan’s purpose will be to allocate sites for strategic development at locations identified in the JSP, as well as to allocate new sites for non-strategic development in the district. The local plan will also set out the suite of planning policies that will be used to deliver sustainable development in South Gloucestershire. Consultation The first stage of preparing the new South Gloucestershire Local Plan invited comments on our new local plan prospectus, and ran between 12 January 2017 and 23 February 2017. Details of this consultation can be viewed at www.southglos.gov.uk/newlocalplanprospectus. Next steps All comments received will be considered as part of preparing the Draft South Gloucestershire Local Plan 2018-2036. The Draft Plan is anticipated to be published for consultation under Regulation 18 (of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012) later in 2017. Consultation database If you are not currently on our consultation database and would like to be kept informed, please email PlanningPolicy@southglos.gov.uk. From time to time we may contact you to seek your views about other planning consultations and projects. Periodically, you may also be invited to give us your views about our service. www.southglos.gov.uk/environment-and-planning/planning/planning-policy/plans-in-preparation/new-south-gloucestershire-local-plan-2018-2036/

I think that we all need to be patient until the UWE Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday 18 July 2017 (date projected from meeting dates over previous 3 years). If we have not heard anything after that date - then will be the time to ask questions. Two days to go to the 18th and "no leaks"!

Sadly Ricky has using DC's terms a "full belly" - he just is not "hungry" anymore. But it is great to dream!

Will Wael be using the iFollow portal to help develop the fan base in Jordan? This is one area where there appears to be little progress at the moment. In the grand scheme of things, imo that isn't important right now. Agreed - but probably would not involve a great deal of effort other than one or two articles in their local press for starters.

Will Dubey hasn't been seen or heard of at the club since I suggested he'd departed months ago, if he's still around he's keeping a very low profile! Plus haven't we just appointed another coach to deal with signing foreign players, perhaps that's the plan DC's going to sign 10 foreigners this summer, hence, why there's so little breaking news (joke) Still around if this is correct: uk.linkedin.com/in/will-dubey-2515bb21
