Hi Harley,
firstly I'd like to say your podcasts are really great and I thoroughly enjoy listening to them.
Is there a plan to do these more regularly? Think earlier in the season you were doing them monthly, then haven't done one until now since about January. Would obviously love to hear more, but appreciate life gets in the way sometimes!
look forward to hearing more in the future,
James

Smith 7 other than the mistake in the first half when he probably should of come running out for a loose ball, played very well.
Sinclair 5 ineffective first half played a bit better once the wingers came on. Partington 8 played well in defence and coming down the wing especially once Moore came on, great headed goal. Craig 6 some mistakes, but otherwise fairly solid. Broadbent 6 some mistakes, but otherwise fairly solid, love it when he drives the ball forward. Brown 6 played alright again a few mistakes hopefully not injured for too long.
Lines 8 heart of the midfield, great goal. (MOM) O. Clarke 6 a few good tackles, easily bullied off the ball at times. Sercombe 7 some great ideas, very creative.
Nichols 5 only had one decent through ball think if he continued to play in a 2 he could come good. Gaffney 5.5 not playing his best at the moment, seems knackered had a couple of good shots, still continues to be attracted to the corner flags.
Subs: Bola 6.5 played solid. Bennett 6 good ideas, needed a bit more time. Moore 7.5 best I've seen him play, funny what happens when you play players in their preferred positions.
Crowd 7 Ref 3 some bad decisions for both teams, worst obviously being the first goal. Rochdale 7 played pretty well, their number 40 was biggest threat from where I was standing.

Mildenhall offered coaching job, but not currently accepted/declined.
I believe his contract as a footballer with Bristol Rovers is now up, so if he doesn't take the coaching job he either needs to negotiate for a new player contract or become a free agent.
Puddy has been let go. No mention of Hodges leaving or staying, but as he is in the youth squad I think he is still here.

I think if he got the same service as Taylor used to get (ball to feet) he would of scored a fair few by now. Instead the rest of the team appear to treat him like a target man when in actual fact he probably doesn't even hit 6ft when he jumps for the ball.
Leave the air balls for Gaffney and Harrison!
I like his work rate and he's given a few good assists the only thing i'd say he did wrong was strike that penalty directly at the keeper, but again at least it was on target.

Lumley 7 - commanding as always
Leadbitter 7.5 - played really well, Chesterfield struggled to contain him, and what about those 360 spins! Lockyer 6.5 - sloppy & slow on the ball in places, but mostly fine. Sweeney 7 - solid Brown 7 - Solid
Bodin 6.5 - looked a threat when he had the ball O. Clarke 8 - MOTM great strike and great control in midfield Lines 7 - Solid performance, if only he could shoot like Ollie. Montano 7 - Some good runs, put alot of effort in.
James 7.5 - Great through ball for Gaffers, hard worker as usual, such a shame about the penalty, still dying for him to put one away! Gaffney 7.5 - Good goal, good work rate, we've got the Gaffney from the loan spell back.
Subs: Moore 6.5 - Played ok, not as much confidence going forward as the other wingers. Easter 6.5 - Nice to see him back, played ok, would of liked to of seen him take a shot, there was one notable moment for me where instead he tried to lay off for Gaffney when he appeared to be in a much better shooting position, but his confidence is clearly low in front of goal. Mansell 6.5 - Played ok, not as well as the last home game where he started though.
Crowd 6 - good singing first half (understandably), would like to see us making some noise when the players haven't given us a reason to a bit more though. Ref 8 - Good game, very few if any bad decisions. Chesterfield 5 - looked terrible first half, played much better when the Gas took their foot of the pedal second half, not a bad goal, glad the whistle went when it did!

Lumley 8 - Solid, can only dream where we would be if we'd had him all season!
Leadbitter 7 - Played well, some good crosses Lockyer 7 - some dodgy moments, but recovered where necessary. Sweeney 7 - some unnecssary dodgy pass backs to keeper, but other than that usual solid performance. Brown 7 - played well, nice to have him back,
Bodin 8 - Great strike in the first few minutes, it's normally us that get's caught not being focused in the first half. Played well the rest of the game two. Mansell 7 - Solid performance, gives the team that calming presence, need's to try and keep the ball down rather than skying it. Lines 7.5 - Very good game, some nice attempts to drive the ball forward. Montano 7 - looked good, got in some good positions, shame he couldn't put the ball in the back of the net, but if he could hit the ball right in front of goal he wouldn't be a winger!
James 7 - good effort, shame to hit the bar again, really want him to put one away and start a run. Gaffney 8 - Glad to see he has his confidence back, had no right attempting that shot, but thats the sort of goal last year's Gaffney would attempt/put away.
Subs: Moore 7 - Looks like a different player to the one that played nearly a month ago, seems to of found some confidence, and it's showing. J. Clarke 7 - looked solid, could do with driving forward a little more, but might not have the same pace as Leads to get back in time if a counter occurs. Clarke-Salter NOLE - Good to see he's recovered.
Crowd 6 - Was ok, some quiet periods (especially in the East where I stand). Ref 5 - Loved to blow that whistle, didn't do much wrong, just stopped play more often than he had too. Southend 5 - totally out matched first half, subs did help, but still struggled to break past the back four and even then weren't going to get much luck with Lumley.

Lumley 8 Solid not at fault for the goal, the only one awake in the first 30 seconds of the match
Leadbitter 7 good runs and crosses one day someone might get on the end of them! Lockyer 7 Solid performance Sweeney 7 Solid performance Harris 6 Looked ok kicked/headed the ball out of play several times, but looks like he is fitting in well.
Bodin 7 Some good runs unfortunately couldn't break through. O. Clarke 8.5 MOTM Great header and good control/drive forward from midfield. Lines 6.5 Some good driving forward, standard performance. Sinclair 6.5 Just another marathon run for Sincs, some very good tackles and fights for the ball. Felt like the left hand side was a little exposed in the first 30 minutes, but the gap soon got covered up (until Ellis' pass back).
James 6 Looks good and tries hard, just not getting the service, needs the ball on the ground, doesn't look like he will win anything in the air. Gaffney 6.5 Looked a little lazy to me in the first half, but came out after half time and put a good shift in. Missing some confidence in front of goal.
Subs: Harrison 4 Putting his howler of a mistake to one side, looked disinterested, didn't want to battle for the ball and gave up if/when he lost it. Needs to find some consistent mojo like in the game when he put away 4 goals. J. Clarke 6.5 looked pretty solid I like that James seems to be able to play in any of the back 5 positions.
Crowd 4 quiet, but it was watering it down, and once they equalised think we were all a little miserable seeing we've now had 2 pts instead of a potential 6 in the last two games due to errors. Ref 7 fair decisions most of the game couple of hiccups, but nothing notable. Scunthorpe 7 Looked good until we scored then looked good again after the cock up. Played better than Sheffield for me looked like they came to win not just for a point.

Lumley - 8 - couple of spills, but got there when it counted. Loved hearing him command the back line. Very confident keeper. (MOTM)
Partington - 6 - lost his man a couple of times appeared to be struggling to keep up with Sheffields winger, but looked pretty solid. Lockyer - 7 - Good performance, nice to see him driving the ball forward again. Sweeney - 7 - This guy is a brick wall, what we've been missing in the backline. Brown - 7 - Solid performance, good runs.
Lines - 7 - Some good runs, appeared to be playing wider than normal, obviously part of DC's formation plan. O. Clarke - 5 - Not played as well as he has in recent games, lost the ball a few times and seemed to be playing in slow motion. Sinclair - 6 - Good run around as always, kept the pressure on.
Bodin - 7 - Looked pretty good, nice bit of foot work, hounded all game, wonder what would of happened if he'd been given a bit of space! Harrison - 5 - didn't see him in the box, but did run around and got back to help with defending. Gaffney - 5 - Didn't look like scoring, didn't have the confidence to shoot in the one on one.
Subs: Montano - 7 - Great impact when he came on. Moore - 5 - ok, played better than he had in recent games, but still not playing great.
Crowd - 7 - Louder than some home games, wish we'd keep the singing going all game! Ref - 6 - Quite lenient, unfortunately didn't want to give us any luck, lines man made a few off decisions. Sheffield U - 6 - came for a point, looked pretty dangerous though can tell why they are where they are in the table.

Out - Puddy, Lawrence, Mccyrstal, Sinclair, Gosling, Boateng (his loan expires Jan otherwise would keep him longer) In - New CB, New GK, 2 x New CM. Sinclair?? He's started all but two of our league games this year. I'm not sure if this is what you'd like to happen or what you think will happen but there's no chance he will be leaving. UTG! Sinclair out is a personal choice, he's a hard worker, but I'm not keen on his playing style always feel like we are leaving gaps when he's running around in what I believe takes him out of position. I'd much rather see Mansell holding the team together, but appreciate Mansell isn't 100% at the moment, hence why I suggested 2 new CM's. Clarke and Colkett I think have that little extra over him, yes they don't put in as much effort as Sinclair, but Clarke's got a powerful shot on him and Colkett's got creativity.

Puddy - 5 Good kick, his height really worries me when we give away corners. Don't think Roos would of done any better/worse.
J. Clarke - 6 Played ok didn't have too much to do. Lockyer - 5 played better than he had recently, but still not back to his normal self. Hartley - 5 same as above at least he's able to put the ball in the back of the net which we didn't have with Parkes/Mccrystal. Brown - 6 Consistent performance as usual good crosses into the box.
Boateng - 6 Played pretty well when he had the ball, needs to work on his defending. Great corner for a third choice set piece taker. (Lines and Colkett being 1 & 2 for DC normally) Sinclair - 4 didn't see much of him all game besides his yellow card tackle doesn't seem to stay in formation. O. Clarke - 7 Good game played well and filled Lines shoes. Great goal. Colkett - 6 Pretty good performance tried a few things that didn't pay off, but doesn't hurt to do that when your winning. Did well on the set pieces.
Taylor - 6 Not a bad game should of put away the first chance, but at least he kept going and eventually put away a goal even if it was scruffy. Gaffney - 7 Very hard worker seems to be everywhere on the pitch. Again should of put away the first chance, but eventually got there. Still seems to be playing wide, get in the box please!
Subs: James - 5 would like to seem him start with Taylor or Gaffney, don't think he's been given a proper chance yet. Leadbitter - 6 sured up the right hand side. Mansell - 6 Made the midfield tight in the last couple of minutes something I think we lack in the regular starters (Lines does it, but needs a 2nd person to create calmness).
Crowd - 6 always love it when we give stick to the opposition keeper Ref - 8 One of the best this season, very fair and made all the correct decisions. Bury - 4 Defence is as shakey as ours has been recently thankfully their strikers weren't very good at finding the back of the net.

I'm not sure what the players get told, but I'd say our major problem is in central midfield and Defence.
For some reason those 4-6 players in those positions (depending on formation) do not drive the ball forward and when they do the option the opt for is to boot it, rather than a ground pass. Sure they make ground passes side ways and backwards, but our only two options to push forward seem to be wingers or boot it and hope it finds a striker.
I don't know why we are putting this kind of pressure on the defence when they are clearly shakey and some of them out of form. The keeper is constantly left exposed from poor back passes or lack of defence due our fall backs being on the wrong half of the pitch.
Personally I'd change captaincy to Lines, he's the most senior player in the first team squad and has experience of it previously. It takes the pressure off of Tom and allows him to focus on his own game which isn't spectacular at the moment. I'd drop the 5-3-2 approach and start with 4-4-2 or maybe even 4-1-2-1-2 allowing Easter or Colckett to play in the CAM creating chances for the strikers and that extra someone in the back Probably Boateng for now, not sure who once he goes in January, maybe a position we need to think about in January.
we've got a lot of "baggage" players that have either been consistently injured since the start of the season or not good enough in Dc's eyes to make the first team, certainly worth thinking about letting some of these players go in January, and looking to get some strength in the CM and CB. we've got problems on both RB and LB in that we only have two players who regularly play in these positions, and I've also seen on several occasions our strikers taking the ball out wide and trying to cross into the box for guess who themselves??
There's work to be done on the training ground on the above and the help from a few additional faces might be the mould the squad is currently missing. Despite this I've got total faith in DC and know that he will keep us up this season, but if we want to be a threat he and his staff have some work to do.
