In case anyone’s just come in and read the comments, we’re not being completely outplayed. We’ve actually had 10 shots to Wigan’s 3, four corners to their 2 and 51% possession. It’s anyone’s guess who the wind favoured in that half but we’re bang in this game and I fancy us to take the points if we keep going as we have done in the first half. UTG!

With the caveat that I haven’t yet read the full announcement or listened to any interviews, I have however seen that he’s signed until 2023.
This all seems like classic Rovers, to be honest. When you would think we would hold all the aces (Barton is due in court in June, FFS) and be able to give a short term contract, possibly highly incentivised to the end of the season, we have gone all in on a long term contract for him and the two coaches, along with presumably having to pay off or demote Maher and Mesure. When Wael has continually talked about sustainability, to pay out this amount of cash to gamble on our league 1 status is one hell of a risk.
There are things I like about Barton but there are also a lot of things to be incredibly wary of. That’s why a short term contract would have made sense. As it is, we could get well and truly screwed here or it could just turn out to be an inspired bit of mad magic. Given Rovers history it’s probably long odds-on the former, but I’ll be right behind the club and hoping to goodness it’s the latter!

Barton back into 8/13 and Stendel has drifted back out to 3/1. Shame if that indicates that Stendel isn’t under as strong consideration as thought. I think he would fit in really well here. Was adored by the fans at Barnsley and after a dreadful start, was in with a good chance of turning it round at Hearts when the season was curtailed. And Barton now 1/3. Someone clearly thinks they know something.

To put things in context (and apologies if already said) but I thought we looked the better side for long spells and but for an inch or two on any of the three occasions we hit the woodwork then we would be having a different discussion this morning. Perhaps it’s an oversimplification, but for me it boiled down to Hanlan missing his 1v1 at 0-0, and Akinde taking his. Yes - or McCormick scuffing a great chance (made by some fine work by Hanlan) just before Akinde’s opener.

Hargreaves is nowhere near League 1 standard. Bath City at best. Should have had Oztumer on the bench. Him and Nicholson work well together. McCormick played well but missed the easiest chance of the lot. We had at least three chances that were simpler to score than the first Akinde goal yet loads on here have said Akinde wasnt good enough. Why wasn't Ozt on the bench as I haven't a clue? Since he went down with COVID he's hardly played for Rovers. He must be one of the poorest high profile loan players we've had for years. Also must be one of the only high profile loan players we've had in years! I think he'll be involved on Tuesday, presuming he's fit. He didn't really fit with the gameplan today.

That game just said to me we are lacking quality up front. Regardless of what Widdrington says Or to put it another way: 'we've got nothing in the effing box!'

Staying up. Just. We have enough in our squad but need to resolve the manager situation quickly with three vital home games on the trot coming up.

We have to move now and get that new manager in ... TW has put some fight back into the team now we need to build. Thought we did ok ... Defence again cost us - Baldwin / Harries are possibly the worst defensive pairing in L1 - Ehmer returning wont improve it much Nicholson should have started ... Hanlan made Akinde look like Aguero ... Jonah looked ok... Rest ok. I agree about getting a new manager in pdq but you seem to watch a different game to me each week. Baldwin/ Harries is hardly a defensive pairing with Kilgour in the mix. Baldwin had a decent game, Harries a good first half but less so second half, Kilgour was just poor and looked more and more disinterested as the game wore on. Hanlon didn't score of course but he had an excellent game, Jonah was the weak link today. Nicholson did nothing much when he came on but deserves a start? Over Daly? Nicholson is managing injury so not sure we could have expected much more from him today. I thought the front three did ok first half but Hanlan was by far the most threatening, all game.

We have had our chances to win this game. We should hold onto that as we face the next few games. The lads are working hard to put this right. As many have said, need to take chances but at least we look like we might score. Big difference than a few weeks ago. Or maybe we need to try playing football properly instead of booting our way out of trouble We had a game plan for today and to be fair we were a couple of better finishes away from being in control of this game at the break.

Hanlan did really well there. McCormick should have done better.
And as I type, bloody Akinde.
We’re well in this game. C’mon Gas.

Don't agree Grant not playing well. He and McCormick doing a lot of work on a poor pitch. Ball watching and too slow to cover? They’ve both been very good in the first half. Grant is looking much more confident on the ball these days as well as covering a lot of ground.
