Combination of living in Yorkshire and work means we don’t get to many Gas games. Only game so far this season was away at Barnsley. School holidays plus visiting my Mum gives us the opportunity to go today, and I must admit I’m a bit wary. My son told me last night before he went to bed that he is really excited about going to the game. We’ve spoken about the goal drought, possibility of crowd turning etc. Still, can’t argue at £20 total for both of us to sit in the South Stand. Praying for a good performance and a good atmosphere. So we went, and my fears were confirmed. I have seen the Mem more toxic - in the spell when we got relegated in the season of Trolls/Penney/Campbell it was really horrible towards the end. In its way, this was worse though, as the home fans were just apathetic. No singing or passion. That’s not us and it’s not the Mem. It’s obviously a reaction to what we’ve been seeing these last couple of months. Fair play to Reading. Everything we weren’t, yesterday. Passionate and vocal fan base, highly animated manager geeing them up and a fully committed and purposeful team. I didn’t think they were particularly brilliant but they didn’t need to be to win comfortably. Luckily my ten year old is mature enough and has seen enough football not to be put off by this. The first football he saw from the Gas was that season on ifollow under Garner so he has developed a pretty high tolerance level!

How was the home team for the next game decided? The semi-finals had the higher ranked team (rankings from the Nations League) playing at home, but the home team for the final was drawn at random - whoever won from Wales v Finland would be at home, same for the other three sets of semi-finalists (but excluding Ukraine who will obviously be at 'home' at a neutral location after they won their semi-final). That’s such an unfair system. Home advantage for Wales gives them a decent chance, whereas Poland would have been clear favourites at home. I know there’s a trend to get everything done quicker these days but surely two legs would have been the way to go, given the importance of the outcome?

This was a post meeting question I asked TG last night I had been asked by two people to pose. "Why is there no financing on season tickets available?" TG said - Most of the smaller clubs use the same finance company & they had pulled there support for all the smaller clubs but were still trading with the bigger clubs. This had caught the Rovers by surprise as it wasn't expected! He did'nt expect to be able to get anything in place in the short term! To me this isn’t really good enough. If I can pay my son’s music group fees or football training fees in instalments then why shouldn’t we be able to do the same with season tickets? When you outsource this kind of thing the service always gets worse, unfortunately.

Fair play to the production team for at least trying to make it look an even game in the second half 🤣
Our fans though! Absolutely brilliant. Love an away day win!

Don’t see him as that sort of player Eric, to want to sit out. I love the way he hates making a mistake, the emotion he shows and criticism of himself during games. He’s a joy to watch, some of his flicks and drag backs are top quality stuff, I will still stand by and say I think he was decent last season. I’d also get Finley signed up if possible, even if he’s not starting week in week out, he’s got a winning mentality, I apologise for doubting his signing. I don’t think he’d down tools or anything. It’s hard to say what any of us would do in his situation. I’ve no idea how much extra you can earn in weekly wage as a free agent versus weekly wage after your new club pays a big transfer fee (or what size of signing on fee you can get as a free agent - if it was a couple of hundred grand for example that could be huge for a player at this level and for their family. Fingers crossed the club “make him an offer he can’t refuse”. !!! Exactly. We all rightly love Tom Lockyer but it’s exactly what he did. Modern football, unfortunately, but maybe we’ll be in a position to make him a really good offer.

Becoming such an important player for us again. Back to his best under Taylor. Get his contract extension agreed early! Works so hard as well as providing dead balls strikers must dream about. Build the team around him and Conteh With Finley next season too who seems revitalised under the new boss. UTG Becoming one of my all time favourite midfielders at the club. Massively talented but works hard and not afraid to get stuck in - a great and rare combination these days. Definitely need to get him tied down to a long term deal if we can. Can’t believe that even though he had a dip in form last season there were some fans on here wanting to get rid of him. Just weird. Agree totally. I really like his evolution as a player. League 2 he obviously was way above that level as an attacking player but didn’t yet have the grit to play as a two in central midfield, for instance. Last year he really developed the ugly side of the game, a little to the detriment of his playmaking side. This year it’s all come together and he is a massive influence wherever he is deployed.

That's a bit rich when you've been unimpressed with Matt Taylor from the second he walked through the door. Because he's not.....you know who. Totally wrong ! I was very open ‘to being impressed ‘ by Matt Taylor mentioned it several times in posts but personally I wasn’t impressed by the way he behaved after the Stevenage match plus I do find him a bit robotic as a ‘personality’ ! however no one can judge him football wise until he has his own team in place all on nxt season now! 💙utg What happened after the Stevenage match?

Yep no guarantees in football Enjoy the ride or dont. It's really only constant social media that makes fans (of all clubs) over think everything. UTG Spot on. But didn't Jevani Brown's assist on Saturday make your heart sing? Great bit of skill, almost like being in the Premier for a nano second. (Not really, and I stand in the Thatcher's and my eyesight's not what it was. ) As you say, enjoy the ride. Moments of joy when they come are few and far between for fans like us but when they do arrive... Totally agree. It really wateres me off when fans overreact to a bad run and make histrionic statements pretty much based on bad mood or entitlement. Play the long game here. We’ve been a league team for over 100 years, barring one pretty memorable season in non-league. In that time, if you don’t count the non-league promotion, we’ve been promoted from tier 4 to tier 3 twice and from tier 3 to tier 2 three times. 5 league promotions in around 100 years! I think it’s something like 7 relegations. So, nearly 90 years of us probably knocking around mid-table most years. How did people put up with that in the past? Compared to some of the dross we’ve had to put up with over the years it’s been a real pleasure to watch footballers the calibre of Antony Evans, Luke Thomas and Aaron Collins and Eliot Anderson over the last few seasons. Chris Martin’s finishing this year has been that of a real master of his craft. There are the seeds of a really good team here. I don’t understand why the general feeling is not to get behind them. Rock bottom was seeing how fierce some of the criticism was when we lost the other day to Northampton. Anyone with a fair minded view of that game could see we would struggle with a midfield of Josh Grant (lost his ability to accelerate due to injury) and a combination of Harvey Vale and Harry Vaughan - both kids. All three played out of position because we literally had no fit available central midfielders. How can you win a league one match when you have no-one to win the fight in the middle of the park? It’s pretty much impossible yet fans turned on the team. That doesn’t sit well with me. It’s been a feeling of doom and gloom yet we’ve taken 12 points from our last 7 games and are actually closer to the play offs and further clear of relegation than when that run started! Why is this happening? Is it societal? People get bored easier now and can’t handle an end of season with nothing to play for? I’d much rather that than a relegation scrap. Maybe it’s because Barton promised us we’d have a right good go this season. How did that end? Taylor’s still new in through the door and deserves time to shape things his way. Meanwhile his record is perfectly good so far yet he gets pelters. He and the team deserve our support, in my opinion. There is no evidence to show they’re not putting it in or that they don’t care. I can well understand why Taylor said that the shirt weighs heavy at the moment. They’re probably a bit baffled as to why they’re putting in a shift week in week out and not getting our full support.

Conteh the difference between the sides.stood out a mile from the rest. Said to my mates, won t be here long, very classy, with a great engine. If we can recruit similar like the owners have said is our intention exciting times ahead! Need the likes of Grant Ward, Hunt and Martin though for some experience. Yes. Great to have Conteh back but any fair minded person would see that we are going to struggle against anyone in this division with him as our only available central midfielder. Last week we didn’t have him either and yet a lot of fans still gave the team pelters with literally no midfield! To be honest, I think Taylor deserves a lot of credit for 4 wins out of the last 7 matches given our injury struggles. Evans back for the next game, hopefully Ward not far behind. This will make an enormous difference. Great to see Brown influential today and Sinclair back in the fold. We definitely have a side capable of pushing for the play offs. Just wasn’t quite meant to be this year but I hope we don’t get the massive clear out that our owner seemed to hint at. Just a few tweaks needed.
