Few clubs there with sub-1000 attendances and should be very proud of themselves, Fleetwood in particular smashing it out the park. Slightly disappointing we couldn't manage it but as others have said, we didn't disgrace ourselves either in fairness.

Sorry, but I just don't get this Lines love in. He is at best an average player and was certainly poor against Bolton. God forbid we blame it on Sincs for what happened. I lost count of how many million pound passes went astray the other night. The funniest thing is the goal against Cardiff. It looked great, but the truth is Lines has a powder puff shot, and if you don't believe me look at last season compendium DVD, and see the pathetic efforts he did try. The last time he hit a meaningful shot was the playoff victory against FG. We need a playmaker in midfield, and hope this is a priority. I wonder if he tries practicing shooting in training, coz he certainly needs to. Not a fan then? My opinion lies somewhere between yours and the OP but if forced to pick a side I wouldn't be building a team around any of our current midfielders! Agree, but midfielders you can really build a side around are unbelievably valuable and also quite rare. Arguably the hardest position to find real quality for. Certainly we don't get many at Rovers and I'd be interested to see if other clubs reckon they consistently produce them. A striker has to score goals, a centre half has to tackle and win things in the air, a winger has to be quick and cross the ball - I am aware that all of that is perhaps overly simplistic, but unarguably the best centre midfielders need to cultivate practically every attribute there is in football. I know you made the point the other day Hugo, but that's why I was such a huge fan of O'Toole despite the fact that he was a bit of a knob - tall, strong, aggressive, not slow, decent in the air, could tackle, passing was certainly adequate, and most importantly could stick the ball in the net... can't really praise him highly enough personally. What I wouldn't give for one like that this season.

Worth considering that our club actually voted against the introduction of B teams into this competition. Certain fans of said club are suggesting paying money to attend this competition. In my opinion there are a number of sound reasons not to attend these fixtures, not least because the club itself essentially voted against them taking place at all. That said, to criticise a fellow gashead for the crime of wishing to support the team regardless of football league politics shows a real lack of class in my opinion. None of us have all the answers - respect the beliefs of other gasheads, especially when they are grown men clearly capable of using their own reasoning to come to their own decision.

Did I imagine Jermaine Easter getting a red card at some point?... impressive nonetheless. Mansfield. Got rescinded though What about Ollie Clarke? Did he not pick up a red at some point?

If SH had had the foresight to post on the club website something like: "Sadly I am unable to attend the Open Day due to an important meeting/playing golf/having a nap that day, but I hope it goes well and everyone has a great time", he could have dodged any criticism. I know that's hindsight on my part, but it's not rocket science to see that some people might ask why he didn't show without any explanation. Ah, but you forget he's only been here around 6 months, which isn't long enough to appreciate the absolute sh*t that some of our fans will insist on sniping about. I doubt it even crossed his mind that grown men would bitch about the chairman of a company not attending what is essentially a children's meet and greet, so he still has much to learn.

Hi all, thought I'd try my luck on here. I'm looking for some short term work starting ASAP and ending circa 15th September, when I'll head off to University. As it stands, I currently have a zero hour contact with Royal Mail and I haven't been offered any hours for the best part of a month. I have applied for other jobs and I have two interviews coming up but neither of them have a start date until after mid Aug, and as mentioned I want to start ASAP. Before it's suggested, I don't want to sign on and claim benefits. I can send a CV to anyone who potentially has something, to see if I'm the right fit for any position you may have. Have you done much bar work before? I've found that at this time of year loads of places will be happy to have you on their rota if you're even halfway competent, and it's high staff turnover so doubt leaving in Sept would be an issue.

Keith Chimp is not a real thing. It's utter nonsense. Absolutely beggars belief that people even bother to read it let alone post it as if it's got any bearing whatsoever on the real world. I've met him To clarify, I didn't necessarily mean he isn't a real person - I have no idea if he is or not. If you say he is then fine, but my point stands. Nothing he says is to be taken as gospel.

It is a bizarre story. What on earth was the bloke who animated it or whatever thinking? I can see why that might be offensive to some people given that there was absolutely no reason for it.

But then the counter argument is that it's more ridiculous to interfere with the professionalism of pre-season just because of fans and Wael and Steve. The trip is nothing to do with Darrell, who is paid to manage a football team not be a holiday rep. He wanted to have another look at Greenslade etc, and presumably would have done so whether it was Barcelona or Mangotsfield. If Lee Brown breaks his leg in Sabadell does it not matter because the fans have got to see him in a meaningless game rather than Greenslade? Lee Brown played in the second half, why would he be more likely to break his leg if he started? Although the starting 11 did OK as if Gaffney's offside goal had counted it would have been 1-1 at half time. Once again we lost our way once Lines & Gaffney were subbed. Plus missing Lockyer has to be a big loss at the back. Well quite obviously the more minutes he plays the more likely he is to get injured, a child can see that. Regardless, that isn't really the main point I was making, as I'm fairly sure you're well aware.

Puddy Greenslade Broom Hartley Macca Lawrence Lines Sinclair Easter Gaffney James Obviously it's a friendly so no biggie, but why make such an event of it, with all those fans going out and Wael and Steve Hamer, and then put out that team? To be fair I don't really understand the argument that it isn't a big deal, which is often made quite aggressively. Surely therein lies the whole point - it isn't that big a deal either way so why bother making the change, even if it's a relatively minor issue compared with stadium issues or whatever. Without meaning to be rude the staff in the pasty huts often seem quite inefficient so surely proper training or taking on a couple of extra staff on a Saturday is a small cost compared with the loss of revenue from all the people who buy pies, as well as the negative response from people who have a long journey etc.

I think from this we can agree the Mem hasn't exactly been graced with a lot of top footballers? This must be down to the lack of top friendlies and consistently crap cup records. Not sure I agree at all - read over the team in the OP again. What more could we have possibly had in English football? It hasn't got Ronaldo, Zidane etc but it's one step down. The fullbacks aren't quite up to standard but other than that it's a great side, at their peaks would have easily challenged for the premier league.

I always find it slightly odd when people talk about signing players like Logan though, as surely there's no crossover of people who were at the club then and now - players, management, and board level. Maybe Macca and one or two of the younger lads, can't remember to that degree of accuracy. But point being nobody of any influence has any particular reason to know anything about him, so unless they read this board it's surely no more likely than any other keeper? I'd love Logan by the way just thought that was interesting to think about.

Depends if you think he is good enough for league one I suppose.. I'm confident he would score and play well regularly at this level too. I'd like to think he can step up. However it's not just about MT is it? It's a team game and his success will depend on the team he plays for. Will he get as many chances this season with us? Has he got the killer instinct to take his chance if we create fewer opportunities? He has been fortunate wrt injuries, is he due one? Can our midfield back up a strickforce that may find goals harder to come by? Honestly now..I reckon between Easter, Gaffney, Bodin, James and Lucas, we will be ok if he moves on. If not, we have a fair choice of options which is great. If Matty moves on we will need one more, without a shadow of a doubt. Easter - inconsistent, arguably coming to the end Gaffney - yes, one of our starters Bodin - we have no idea if DC is prepared to use him as a striker - as others have said, we would effectively simply lose a winger rather than a forward James - unproven with us and poor recent scoring record Lucas - totally unproven
