BBC Football report Jaydon Stockley gone to Preston on 3 1/2 year deal, fee of 750k. Exeter are reported to have received in excess of 6m in transfer fees over the last 4 years. How will we ever compete with that ? Can't compete now. If we would have bid the £750,000 in the summer though, we might have got him before Championship clubs came knocking. Ageed

How will we ever compete with that ? We're not. Why are we comparing ourselves to a championship team who finished just below the playoffs last season though? My point is merely that Exeter have developed players and received fair value.

On recent form what past rovers player would you liken him to? Ellis in his best form last season. I agree, he maybe not as good in the air but I think he is more likely to score with fewer chances.

He signed a 4 year deal in Aug 16, so I doubt we can afford to buy him out of that contract.

Particular highlight of mine yesterday was the Walsall fans singing "can you hear the Bristol sing?" immediately before we scored from the free kick. Sat them down and shut them up very quickly. Any idea of how many we took? I know we sold roughly 500 pre-match, but there seemed a lot more than there yesterday. I think i read somewhere the away following was 859. Attendance prediction results states 846

We filled the whole stand behind the goal, I'd say it was 750 to 1000 fans there, we must have been a decent turnout as the home stands were mostly empty! I agree, must have been well over 500, office said 530 pre-match sold and there must have been at least 200 more paid on the day. I know 20 pay on day including myself. Will the away attendance be officially announced or just the 5069 in total ?

Quote; "I thought their fans were excellent and they gave us a decent game. Their main striker, not sure what he's called, gave our CB's, especially Baldwin, a really tough afternoon - strong and fast".

Found this cutting whilst sorting an old box of paperwork in the roof. Anyone recognise themselves or somebody else from 17 Sep 1994 ? Recognise the guy behind and to the right of the circled guy....... Looks like some has put a cross on him with a pen if you zoom in? That’s me

If my memory is not playing tricks it was Geoff Bradford's comeback game in the reserves against Stoke City and he scored hat trick with a crowd of over 8,000 watching. I remember well the Eastville 'Roar'. I think you are correct Blueridge. I was taken to the game by neighbor and was my first professional game I saw. Loved my football. The reason for attending reserve games was two fold. One, we couldn't afford first team prices and secondly it was safer as the crowds weren't so big. Can anyone remember the cost of attending a reserve team game back in the mid fifties? I don’t remember how much to attend a reserve game, but one year I did have a reserve team season ticket, anyone remember those ?

This could well be a picture of the Man United cup match in 1956. The Man United # 3 being Roger Byrne who died in the Munich crash. I remember watching the Cup Tie against Man Utd 4-0 from the standing room behind the Boys Enclosure. Excellent view as you were raised above the crowd as long as you got near the front!! Roger Byrne "scored" for Man Utd from a free kick but it was disallowed as it was an indirect free kick and no one else touched it!!
If this picture is in fact from the Man Utd game in 1956, the attendance was 35,872, blimey, I wonder how many are packed in Muller Road End ? Attachment Deleted

This crowd at the Muller Road End, Eastville, from the 1950’s shows why some of us long serving gasheads were only allowed to go to reserve games when we were youngsters.

There seems to be a common theme amongst the Oldies, of watching the Reserves first before being allowed to see the real thing. At first I thought WT actual F, then it began to make sense - you had to earn the right, do the hard yards, it wasn’t a given. You hold on to something that doesn’t come easy. Kudos to the old Timers, probably why they keep coming back for another slice. In the 50//60's the reserve team would play home when the first team were away. As the opposition was the likes of Tottenham,Arsenal, Chelsea ,West ham etc good crowds would attend to see well known star players turning out for the big clubs reserves. That's quite right. I had a reserve team only season ticket in the late 50's, i wonder who remembers such a thing? Of course the attendances were far greater then and my parents thought it safer to go first to reserves until i was bigger. I saw many future stars and those returning from injury playing in the Combination League, if my memory serves me right.
