Just waiting for the four to come in and then I'll make a decision. DC has said four and he will get four. If however, the new signings are unknowns then cue meltdown. If Wylde, Godden, Sweeney, Lambert-types then cue start the bus

Why can't you just wait till Aug 31st? Surely it will be a fairer comparison then?
Also, we didn't lose the loanees as they weren't ours to begin with.
Just calm down, I'm sure DC knows what he's doing.

Whats annoying me is the change from needing 10 players, which dropped for a few weeks, now we need 4 more again. I am not holding my breath we will bring 4 in.

Its a post that a growing few are clearly thinking but like myself wary of posting for fear of the response from the usual brigade.
I am very disappointed so far with the activity and the fact that 'trialists' appear to be the answer to an 18 month old issue. Equally the calls for that 'top six budget' was either not met or we now don't see the value in spending. Surely the senior negotiators at the club were not that far out of touch with the rising market values and equally when it became apparent did they not sit down again and say " If we are genuine to progress we need more".
I don't know what it will take for some to see this squad is not strong enough...YET ! We all want a successful team so there is no point in having a go at each other ...
Would love to know if DC does have it all under control as he eludes or whether he knows that we have missed out so far this summer and is gearing up for a tough start to the season and vital incomings in August.

Don't be wary HS - we all know who the keyboard warriors are, the opinionated one's that have to swear and make snide comments to try and make their point through intimidation. I totally agree with your post and with SteveK - still a lot of work to be done and three critical QUALITY signings to be made, hopefully long before the end of August. The peripheral players are in place - we now need the other three that will hopefully make the real difference to our aspirations for the coming season.

People are knocking trialist signings if we didn't have trialist at the club then we wouldn't have Bodin. Broadbent hasn't cost us anything simply by having trialist in means theres no transfer money spent it's no different from a free transfer from a club. It means theres still money in the kitty for January should we need it. A lot of players are released simply because they don't fit in with the style the manager plays, some are released for fianancial reasons easier to release than having him on your books and have to pay him every week thats just 2 off the top of my head im sure there's plenty of other reasons why players are released. So just because they have been released and come for a trial at the club doesn't mean they arn't any good casing point as already mentioned Billy Bodin

With now just over a week to go to the first match looking at the ins and outs since the last game against Millwall how do you think DC's summer has fared? OUT Lumley, Mildenhall, Puddy, Sweeney , Harris, Hartley , Clarke-Salter, Montano, Easter,Mansell, James TOTAL 11 IN Slocombe, Smith,Broadbent, Bola, Sercombe,Nicholls TOTAL 6 I have to be totally honest and say underwhelmed with the business thus far as I was a month ago but at that time in didn't really matter but now there is only just over a week to0 the first game and as I see it we are nowhere near ready to compete better than last season. Goalkeepers 2 steady keepers signed but Lumley was questionably our best player so the positive is that both keepers are ours but are either better than Lumley. My thought - Good dealings by DC but not better. Defence 2 unknowns brought in both inexperienced and we have lost Sweeney; who along with Lumley was our best defender; Hartley,Clarke Salter and Harris. My thought- We are far worse off both ability and experience.Dealings to date very poor. Midfield Mansell our only lost and has been replaced by Sercombe . My thoughts I would say this is a plus and I see Sercombe doing a good job and being a regular Wingers Montano was our only loss but to date no replacement and Bodin ands Moore are our only wingers. My thought Poor to date if we are to play 4-4-2 Forwards Lost James and Easter and signed Nicholls. My thought is that we look very short of goalscorers but Nicholls is a positive as james scored nil and easter not enough but in truth DC has not got us (to date) a top goalscorer . Overall my prediction for the season would be a finish of 16th and whilst some will say we have until the end of August to complete transfer business I would say that is fine if we are after players to fill the squad but IMO we are after 3 or 4 players to actually START and these should be in the building BEFORE we play Charlton. What do others think other than In DC we trust? It always feels like we are underprepared for a season but DC gets there in the end. Its a frustrating approach to building sides from a fan perspective but you can't question DC's success and just have to trust that he has it covered.

Goalkeepers - I think the signings of Smith and Slocombe are decent and gives the best competition in that area we've had for ages. Lumley did very well though, and whether we have signed a better player individually is yet to be known. Defenders - We've added competition in the LB position, so I'm happy with that. Sweeney is a big loss, but hopefully we can still bring him back or sign someone of similar quality. Broadbent seems a bit raw, an unknown quantity at this level having jumped 5 levels from a relegated Southern Prem side, so it would be a lot to ask him to step straight in to a side supposedly looking for promotion, but fingers crossed he does. We still need the left sided CB that DC spoke of though, hopefully a quality one. More competition in CB areas, but overall I'm not neccessarily convinced of improvement at the time of this post.
Midfield - I have liked what I've seen of Sercombe previously and he strengthens the attacking CM area, but I still think we need to add an extra defensive option too, like DC also said he wants. The winger signing is another key area to be filled, with Bodin the only real threat in wide areas. Overall need to add more quality to say an improvement, but the DCM and LW signings could change that.
Strikers - We still haven't replaced the goal threat of Taylor for me, so the striker that DC is looking to sign next will hopefully be that man. I'm not convinced Nichols is a 20 goal man, but he is younger than Easter and will add more goals than he would've provided. The next striker addition is key for me, quality needed to say an improvement IMHO.
The centre back, defensive midfielder, winger and striker signings will likely define our season and I'm looking forward to seeing who we bring in.

Technically it's only 8 days that is when the season starts by August 31st we will have played 5 games Exactly, the season starts in a few blinks. To me all the sides who are still as short as us, have struggled to get the players in. 31st August is safety net, and shouldn't be a target.

Is having an opinion thinking you know better than DC? I will always have an opinion or should I just sit back and say "In DC I trust". Wouldn't be much of a forum would it???

What do others think other than In DC we trust? Good post Steve and it's great to have a post about football. Whilst I can understand your concern and appreciate your points I don't necessarily agree. The biggest unknown is that we don't have a clue about what DC has been doing, players he has chased or the obstacles he faces. He always keeps it private and doesn't conduct his business through twitter or whatever. So far all we've had are friendlies and in those friendlies I would suggest, from what I've read, that there have been a few plus points. Tom Broadbent, Rory scoring goals, keepers playing well and Johnny Burn. But at the moment it's hard to make any real judgements, they are friendlies and are about getting fit not much else. Goalkeepers: I think we are stronger in this position. We actually own these keepers and they have both done well and have a good pedigree in league 1. Defence: Pretty much the same as last season although ATM Sweeney is a better player than Broadbent. But from all accounts TB has done very well and could be a real gem. Burn also needs the chance. Overall we are as good as the start of last season although I can see we ended a much stronger defence. More cover for our FBs now with Bola, Partington. Midfield: I think we are stronger with Sercombe being a box to box, scoring midfielder. On the wing we are more dependent at the moment with only Bodin, Moore and perhaps Broom. But Moore seems much better so far. I doubt if DC would play with another winger if BB is playing so I'm not sure if we will see another one. And if BB starts like he's been in pre season that will improve us because he didn't really start until Christmas last year did he? Attack: Tom N is a straight swap for MT. So far we are stronger than when we finished last season I think. And if RG continues like he's been in pre season then that will improve us. So overall I think we are stronger than when we started last season but perhaps weaker in the CH position when we ended. Nothing to worry about and we have another month to go. DC doesn't like spending money and it's just a feeling but I think he will always wait for the right signing rather than just getting cover like so many managers seem to do. I would like to see Sweeney come in but I'm pleased that Dc is not obsessed and has signed Tom B and has played him a lot. He seems a very solid signing with a great attitude. I know it's a frustrating thing to say but we've just got to be patient, wait and give them a chance and believe that the signings will gel in with the others and that TB, LS and TN turn out to be very good signings and that RG, BB and the keepers take their pre season form into the new season. UTG!
